Disagree Blue Heart, actually think St.Kilda will progress ok for the next year or 2 but once Riewoldt, Montagna and couple others finish up I think they will stagnate a bit.

If we can get the draft period this year and next nailed I believe we can be ahead of them within 2 years.
That'd take a miracle. Riewoldt going will hurt them a bit, but they'll still have Bruce and McCartin. It will take us 2 drafts to catch up to them talent wise. Just wait till you see more of Billings, he's a freak. And Dunstan and Newnes, both guns. We'll still be behind them in development.

Does anyone else get put off Carlisle by the fact he has put himself up for trade but not nominated Carlton? Others who have put themselves up for trade have nominated clubs, which I think indicates a desire to play at that particular club. Seems like Carlisle is happy to play wherever the money is and has no real concern about being part of a particular club. I might be reading too much into it, but surely we go for players who want to bleed for the jumper? Another Daisy Thomas would be devastating at this point.

There's a layer of PR bs over the top. Don't read too much into it.

Agree with Billings but Bruce and McCartin will find it much harder without Riewoldt as he is the oppositions main focus.

Their defense looks like it needs plenty of help and midfield will be serviceable.

Still think we have plenty of improvement in some of our guys who will be much better with the Malthouse shackles off them and some KPP additions.

I would back our midfield to beat St.Kilda's next year.

Sorry, please list what the AFL has done that has been seen as favourable for CFC in the last 10 years?

Nope, no unhealthy reliance on the AFL. The club should go for it and hold the AFL accountable to their own rules. CFC has been made accountable at every turn. It's not dirty, it's the AFL's own rules. Just 12 months earlier that same scenario was presented with Melbourne / Hawthorn. This reaks once again a bias against CFC. Had the Bulldogs bottomed out this year would the AFL have the same stance? Fk no. If it means using 'precedent' in court to make sure pick #2 ends up at CFC then so be it.

We received a more than healthy share of FTA fixturing and Friday nights. We can't afford to sour the working relationship with them, but the question needs to be asked firmly as to their apparent 'on the fly' preference with Schache

Good point CT. AFLs done sfa for Carlton.

Also not sure what Fitzpatrick is doing in there, used to think having one of our own in the AFL would help our cause - maybe he gets left out of important meetings to avoid conflicts of interest.

where Carlton is ain't the AFL's fault, it's ours.

sure, we ain't looked after like some interstate clubs but that's part of growing a national competition.

and the AFL ain't too bad to us - we also got into finals two years back because essendon were disqualified , and got a great Friday night draw this year. we also usually get first game opening round against Richmond. we also get lots of MCG games

we actually get better looked after than other Victorian clubs like north & Bulldogs.

where we fail is we still have a sense of entitlement , like we're owed something. until we move beyond that (& it finally looks like we are), we may as well get used to finish at the bottom.

The AFL desperately need Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon and Carlton on Friday nights to reach a wider audience. North, Bulldogs, Melbourne and even Hawthorn simply don't have the supporter base outside of membership for the AFL to hold the upper hand. The Hawks are flying and in the 1st game against Carlton their supporters don't turn up delivering a paltry 26,000 at the game? Don't think for a second this went unnoticed at AFL House. Had it been the other way around there would have been 45,000+ Carlton fans at Etihad. Don't underestimate the value of CFC / big 4 clubs to the AFL. It's in the AFL's best interests to get these clubs up as quickly as possible.

Well you can lead a horse to water.. The only ones we have to blame are ourselves. We got a golden draw for a few years in anticipation of our rise, but it didn't happen- we weren't good enough. I think the AFL would love a healthy Carlton, but we are the ones who have to do that.

JK I am never happy to be wrong ... but this is one notable occasion I will gladly eat a couple of double helpings of H. Pie if I am in error.
All I can say I hope you are right because I am 58 years young and I want to see at least another flag (or two would be nice) to the other 8 I have witnessed live before I depart this mortal coil.

Hey mate not saying your wrong or I am right, its just an opinion and that is what forums are all about.

Just think we cant really judge our form, development or progression until we have a better systems in place and think we are heading on the right track.

It is almost like a racehorse being transferred to a better stable, think we will improve quicker than most people realise once these middle tier players experience some real development.

Of course no offence taken, that's what forums like this are for ... giving your opinion and arguing the point with others.

Well as for the Blues being a racehorse and now under the care of a new trainer, I only hope they can go a hell of lot quicker than most of the pacers I own ... otherwise I can see some of the players ending up at the footy knackery after being delisted !!! Maybe we should geld the new players after we draft them as I am sure they will be less distracted and play more truly !!!

Probably had them in the 4th leg of my quaddies.....

Thats right. We believe the AFL should treat Carlton fairly under the rules when clearly we are not entitled to that.

We legitimately came 9th when * were suspended. How is that a leg up from the AFL.
Friday night games this year were not exactly a godsend and were in response to our crap draw the year before.
CFC and RFC games get good crowds so why wouldn't the AFL want a 'blockbuster' season launch.

The AFL constantly make 'Carlton" rules that harm our chances:
1. in fixturing (look at our 6 day breaks in 2014), Thursday night games to hurt our gate and profit, NZ game ditto, Hawthorn twice?
2. Not allowing us to use Princes Park which was a large and profitable venue, forcing us to Ethihad (and a Mountain of debt),
3. father/son changes - no academy allowed.
4. PP changes when we are going to get one (4.5 wins means NO), etc.
5. Judds chicken wing tackle being the only Chicken Wing in a long history of Fowl tackles to cop so much publicity and penalty.
6. Gibbs hammered for a sling tackle when other similar tackles before and after have not been.
7. Norths and the Dogs are both well run profitable clubs with 'extra' help from equalisation tax that CFC has to pay (despite our debt/losses).

AFL are killing this Golden Goose and it is a pretty recurring theme...

2.11pm: Keynote speaker Judd admits his first objective as a new Eagles player was to gain selection and then keep it. It was Chris Mainwaring who got him thinking about wanting to be remembered as a premiership player.

He also said he enjoyed being able to then help the young Blues as his own career came to an end.

"I felt really lucky at Carlton over the last few years to have a lot of young guys who were really thirsty for knowledge, and you would have the discussions and then you could see some of their behaviours change," Judd said.

"It was incredibly rewarding and exciting to watch."

Part time midfield mentor/coach next year and beyond:D:D:D:D

Assuming you get pick 2 as compensation for Kreuzer,
Would Treloar, Pick 8, Lachie Plowman, Andrew Phillips and a 4th rounder be fair for pick Number 1?
And also assuming you get Jake Carlisle in the PSD. Thoughts?

Where do we sign?

I'm worried about you. That's my key initial thought.

The team has won 3 flags this century. Most teams have won zero flags.:( How can the AFL justify giving Brisbane more help.

Brisbane already have an academy which will deliver 2-3 top kids at a discount this year and next year, and at the start of the year were tipped to go top 8 with their midfield.

The AFL need to administer their rues fairly for all teams. Brisbane will rise again without AFL intervention.
Just interested to know how many Brisbane players have left in recent years compared to Carlton.
Kennedy, Jacobs, Betts, Laidler, Robinson, Garlett, Waite, Hampson and Grigg all playing at other clubs. If the rumours are true then we can add Kreuzer, Yarran, Bell, Henderson and Menzel. That is quite a list.
