For the next 3-4 years, we need to have a moratorium on picking up cast-offs from other clubs because that is one of the main reasons why our list is in the state it is right now.

No club is going to jettison a talented/promising 18-20yo so we are wasting our time looking. Furthermore, the vast majority of players who have been cut by their current club are either too old (ie. they bring their bad habits with them), they have retired (why should we give them another year of superannuation ??) or plainly, they are not up to league standard.

For us to do a complete rebuild, we have to do the hard yards now by drafting in youth & trading out bit-part players who have no future.

Let's play it safe and stop looking for shortcuts that don't exist.
Like the cut of your jib. Agree totally with what you've said here and your other comments on here tonight. Your on a high quality roll.

No club has ever finished stone-motherless last and been able to magically adjust their list to one that is a Grand Finalist in just one off-season so why the **** would you risk the opportunity of picking up the best key defender in the draft by doing a stupid trade like that ??

We are screaming out for quality key position players, especially those who play in defence, now we have been gifted one on a platter yet people suggest we should get all clever and trade away that advantage.

Seriously, if the Carlton Football Club was YOUR business, would you honestly go down that path ??

I didn't think so !!

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't realise that what I was suggesting was out of the question in the world of Big Footy and that your the boss around here???

If the Carlton Football Club was my business, I'd be telling SOS to maximise every opportunity you have to get our list better and as quick as possible. That doesn't mean quick fixes it just means making smart decisions..

Like how someone else suggested here, if there was an opportunity to still get our man at number 2 but get a little extra as well, why the hell wouldn't we???

I'd be telling Schache that we are taking you at number 1, getting all the talk on us taking him.

Then in the background I'd tell talking to Swanny asking what are prepared to give us so you can get your man??

Our 1st offer would be what my 1st comment was on this subject, cause as all astute businessman know you never ask for what you want straight away, you ask for higher then work your way down... But hey if Brisbane give us our 1st offer, then that's big win I say...

Then draft time comes around and Brisbane do what we all know what they are going to do and take Schache at 1 and we get the man we really wanted at 2 plus we got Aish and maybe more for free!!

At the end of the day if no deal gets done and Brisbane don't bite, then we still have the number 1 pick and we still take Weitering! No harm done!

If they do bite and for some crazy reason they take Weitering then I don't think its the end of the world by ending up with Schache. (But with all the hysteria but the possibility of us maybe taking him if we got comp for Kruzer I highly doubt they will.)

If they don't at least look at that prospect then they aren't doing there due diligence.

And thank **** that you don't have any power there.. Otherwise it'll be 10 years before we make the finals!!

I can see something more along the lines of 1 for 2 and 21 or 2 and aish? The aish deal I could imagine we may need a sweetener
Why do we need more than pick 20 for Aish?
Unlikely anybody else would offer more, and risk in two years time he will want to go home to SA.
Has not shown enough to need more - and if we get Carlisle and/or Plowman maybe we need the ability to consider selecting Schache?

FWIW, I thought Carlisle was going to the doggies.

Slowly starting to think that if:

* The Crows elect not to match a Geelong offer for Danger and take #15 (there or thereabouts) as FA compo. Therefore not forcing the cats to **** around with first rounders and waste time.

* Geelong trade a first rounder to us as part of Hendo deal. (could be this years, or next years or have sweetners from us etc) For the sake of argument, #9 & 28 for Hendo & 20

* We make Essendon a reasonable offer involving
- #9 and change back our way
- or #28

All that happens, then he'll be in Navy Blue whether * take the deal or not. (PSD a chance as we can say we tried to play ball)

Can see this going very late into the trade period.

Then in the background? Mate it's the National Draft not Home & Away.

Offering way too much for Carlisle.

Carlisle is likely to cop a ban from WADA that will mean some? time out. He was not top 10 in *B&F.

He can play, but has been playing in a strong and experienced back 6 at * with players Hooker, Hibberd, Fletcher and Hurley which allows him to avoid key match ups. We have a developing back 6 in 2015 so we will be relying on him much more.

The $$$ being offered and #9 draft pick you are suggesting could really hurt our list rebuild.

Prefer we take #9 to the draft and find an A grade quality player for a lot less cash that allows us to get a FA next year.

If we get Carlisle in PSD and it only costs us $$$ at a time when we have to make 95% minimum player payments, then I am OK with that (front load?). Should not offer * more than the 4th round pick they offered us for Campo (and then we can call it even).

tipstar

Getting cute with the number 1 pick may conform to some elements of game theory. It might get us what we want and a little extra.

But I think that if a big part of the puzzle is there you nail it down and focus on the next piece.

Lock in Weitering at #1, focus on the next part of the build.

I think it's important to offer fair value, even if we're dealing with *

JC's value is somewhere around #10. (Age, size & capability is perfect for us).
Given he is out of contract a Hendo type deal could be in order:

Eg:
Geel trade #9 & 28 to us for Hendo & 20
(We all think that's fair)

We on-trade #9 & 28 to * for Carlisle & #23

We effectively trade Hendo for Carlisle for a 3 pick downgrade on our 2nd.

Anyone think that's not a good outcome for us, * and arguably Geelong?

Would prefer to take #9 to draft any day and twice on Sundays...

Seems like a wasted effort. Why not look at a calendar and just turn up on the actual draft day?
