Greg Denham (yeah I know, pinch of salt) was just saying * want a 1st rounder & Jeremy Howe from Melbourne in exchange for Melksham.
If this was remotely close to being true, they'll be asking us for pick 1 for Carlisle.
Walk to PSD or we focus our efforts elsewhere. Life will go on if we don't get Carlisle.

If we miss Carlisle it is not the end of the World. Not so convinced he is perfect.

CFC will take 3 years to rebuild at best.

We have Giles and KJ developing to play that role, Weitering coming in and potential to get Plowman. We can also draft others.

With FA, what if the compensation pick was tied to the gaining teams pick?
Say Kruezer is offered a deal from Collingwood that would qualify for 1st rnd compensation then Carlton would receive Collingwoods 1st rnd pick.
1) no other club is disadvantaged.
2) losing club gains appropriate compensation.
3) gaining club does not gain an advantage by keeping their pick as well as gaining a quality player.

Why do we need more than pick 20 for Aish?
Unlikely anybody else would offer more, and risk in two years time he will want to go home to SA.
Has not shown enough to need more - and if we get Carlisle and/or Plowman maybe we need the ability to consider selecting Schache?
We could keep 20 this way unlikely Brisbane will take wietering with pick 1 so we still get our man plus aish

That makes so much sense it was amazing it was not the original AFL policy. Allows players to move where a club will simply not trade them (i.e.. Dangerfield). Only challenge is determining if they are a first round, or later round value pick - but I am sure the AFL could come up with a transparent formula based on ability/age/etc....

So....like a trade?

Don't we already have those?

Essendon always do this. It's why their supporters get frustrated at the lack of trade movement, nobody wants to deal with them!

If they push hard for Carlisle I'm sure Saints won't give up pick 5 and I'm open to giving pick 20 for him. We have the upper hand unless Carlisle nominates the Saints, which I don't think he will.

Read my mind.

Except you add the unbalanced compo rules. Bottom clubs still get screwed when losing players to top clubs and top clubs get great compo when losing players to bottom teams.

3-way action.....

Henderson and 20 to the Cats, Carlisle and 28 to Carlton. 20 and Walker to the Bombers

worth a try but:

Carlton: Carlisle & 23
Geelong: Hendo & 20
*: 9 & 28

Everybody gets what they want.

------
Do it as two separate deals:

Carlton / Geel: Hendo & 20 for 9 & 28

Carlton / Essendon: on trade 9 & 28 for Carlisle & 23

They knock that back and we keep 9 & 28 and potentially get him in the PSD

Yep, any situation that causes a lower ranked club to give up more than a higher ranked one if they were recruiting the same player is counter-intuitive.

I still think the best approach is to base it solely on the age of the player. Losing a guy in his prime gets you better compensation than a bloke moving to a new club at 32 for a big retirement package.

Age 26-28 = Band 1 (end of 1st round)
Age 29-31 = Band 2 (end of 2nd round)
Age 32+ = Band 3 (end of 3rd round)

Nobody has their first rounders effected, no real incentive to push good players out, but definite benefit to encouraging youngish fringe players to look for greater opportunity elsewhere.

Isn't that what Free Agency was supposed to do? Enable mid-tier players to move clubs freely for more game-time, better pay etc, rather than giving top clubs access to even more elite talent at no cost?

IF we get pick 9 from Geelong....

We would have the possible chance of snaring 1 of the following....

mathieson, tucker, burton, ah chee, balic, wiederman

Now is it worth including #9 for Carlisle... for a chance at one of these 6?? (I honestly don't know, haven't seen enough underage comp)

I'd take any one of those lads over Carlisle at #9.

Jake for an early second should be our limit, otherwise we grab Plowman for the same pick instead, and hope that * screw the pooch and Carlisle walks.

Ok. We sign MK, solving the AFL's conundrum

We complain to the AFL that with WADA looming we can't do a satisfactory deal with the bombers.

The AFL 'award' us and Bris a PP at the end of the first round, provided we promise to give that to ESS (we go though the protracted negotiations and get the AFL involved for mediation)

I'm now going to find Mulder and Scully and the smokey man
#conspiracy

Did anyone hear Triggs speech last night and his comments on MK? Lots of love for the big man, was quite an emotive plea for him to stay.

I just hope that we haven't pushed him to the point of no return.

Would prefer to take #9 to draft any day and twice on Sundays...
Just curious. If we got an AA for pick 9, I am tipping we would take that every day of the week, even say a Victorian rep as in the old days. Well guess what Carlisle is about to enter the peak of his career at the same age ad Cripps he made the AA squad which Cripps hasn't, now do you think Carlisle is worth pick 9??? Even if he copped 10 weeks I would take him, at the most Carlisle and drugs players would get is 3-4 weeks otherwise WADA will wreck comp. Which they will not want.
