That's rubbish.

However... although there would be more... you'd have a fair argument that Carltons best 22 would be the easiest to break into. Literally half the team are C Graders at best.
I'm talking about walking straight in as starting midfielders or key position. Yes of course Gibbs could get a game as a loose back. Or Murphy off a HF flank. But as a go to guy like a Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Shiels, Jack, Kennedy, Parker, Gray, Boak etc. they aren't even close

I agree with much of what you say sheik but why would a young gws gun want to come to Carlton (in a trade) for a rebuild when the gws are already on the rise?
He won't. We at Carlton live in the 1980's where we think everyone wants to walk through our doors.

Our only way back is through football dept. spending and good drafting. And it will have to require patience another thing we lack

Number 1, 2, 3 or 4 pick is on the cards.
We simply have to pick a star.

Couple this with getting Rice and SOSOS hopefully in the 3rd and 4th rounds if not the 2nd and 3rd.

Then trade into the top 15

We are at least 5 years away from a premiership

Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Henderson, Everitt, Daisy will be in their last or close to last years.

Cripps, Docherty, Yarran, Menzel will be our core

And the youth from now on will hopefully be fast learners.

We need more talent in that core range. Treloar would be amazing.

Throw some super star first rounders startinf from THIS YEAR and we may have a chance at a proper rebuild

Outside of the 3 in bold we have no way into the top 15. And even those 3 would struggle to get that if they have very poor seasons

You assume other clubs would be keen to trade. We couldn't get a club interested in a trade for Robinson who was our hardest player. Warnock & Henderson are off contract and we will get nothing for both. Opposition clubs will pick the bones and offer very little in return.

Any club who wants to take Warnock off our hands are welcome to him.

Yes trade #3 & #4? Tough call but that's what the club needs

Normally I wouldn't entertain such an idea but clearly we are in dire straights and need to somehow work creatively to turn it all around.

Doing some two-for-one deals will help us dramatically, just think of the trading of #7 as an example.

Gibbs & Murphy would get us two decent draft picks PLUS two decent players as well, its all about building the foundation. Each time we bring in quality, the list get stronger, each time we remove some of the poop, the list gets stronger.

The key is to stop friggen' bringing in players on half-baked plans, you end up with a list full of players with serious deficiencies when you do (eg. Casboult).

I like Murphy & Gibbs but for the good of the club a good first round pick and decent player for either of them and I'd take it. It's a shame that we've been that poorly run that it has come to that

Trading our two best players (Gibbs & Murphy) won't save this club lmao

Won't save it but would certainly give the playing list a huge leg-up on its way to being rebuilt.

Thing is, we are not going to win a flag for at least another 5-years time so trading those guys now isn't going to change the onfield pursuits.

There is around 15-16 young skilled players on the list right now, we need to build that up to 30-35 and then let them develop together. Right now, we have been putting bandaids on a haemorrhage and that has to stop.

For all recruiting from now on, we must have some non-negotiable criteria that every player must have before we consider drafting them or engaging in a trade :

1. can kick accurately off both feet
2. can mark strongly overhead
3. does all of the 1%ers
4. is team orientated
5. has some mongrel
6. can handball accurately by both hands
7. can follow instructions implicitly
8. not afraid to put the body on the line when needed
9. never ever gives up & hates losing
10. will always run to support a team-mate at all times, especially when under physical intimidation

1) ellard 2) carrazzo 3) curnow 4) bell 5) rowe 6) white 7) jones 8) tutt 9) wood 10) casboult 11) tuohy

half the bloody team are at best just triers

Very much agree but just want to add need to also develop their attributes and have a strong and professional culture embedded into them. At the moment our club lacks that.

Yarran running off and hand balling to the likes of Curnow who kicks 40 metres into the air shows the disparity in our best 22.
Only really Walker & Thomas to come back into this side too. Jaksch is still a kid in KP terms. And I'm not sure if Kruezer is a figment of our imagination anymore. Most good sides wouldn't run out with more than 6 of those battlers in their 22. At best we have to run out with 8-10

Kids will need a go sooner or later.

Buckley and Sheehan actually have a few tricks as a example.
