Jarrod Pickett (GWS) as well as James Sicily (HAW) could be an amazing get. Would really boost our forwards. I hear Pickett was well liked by SOS as well.

YARRAN to HAWKS for SICILY & 1ST ROUND
PICK from HAWKS to GWS for PICKETT

Thoughts?

Pickett is a twig, would you really want to give away first-rounder for him ??

Sicily was a third round selection, what is the fascination with him ??

Surely Kreuz will stay, it doesn't make any sense for him to leave. Knocked back over $1mil a year to go to GWS, has on many, many occasions stated his love for the club, desire to be a one club player and intent on staying. I imagine Carlton have low balled him and what we saw in the press conference was instructions by his management to help drive his price a little higher.

From memory I read / heard that when SOS came on board he was shocked at what some of our players were earning, I guess he is correcting that now.

100% true.

I read somewhere that Kreuzer has been on around $500,000 for the last 3 years. I cant imagine we would offer him less money so not sure what he and his manager are after considering he has hardly played in 2 years.

Me too. Think Bolton will want to hang on to all the talent he can. Got nothing to lose by seeing out his contract and having a crack. More sensible than taking unders.
There is no point bringing in lots of young players through the draft if there isnt a core group of good senior players around them.

A new coach publicly stating that every player should know it is a clean sheet and no preconceptions - is a pretty good way to at least revisit any 50/50 situation.

Pickett taken pick 4 last year and is 19y.o - explosive small forward/midfielder.
Fair call though - he does need to start eating.
If we were to get him using the Hawks pick we receive I would go for that.

I dont know much about Sicily just heard a rumour that we were talking. Still fills a need for a quality HFF we need. Been behind in the lines of Hawthorns best 22 but could be a fantastic inclusion. 20y.o. and his box hill stats aren't too shabby.

A new coach has gotta think long and hard about trading out a No 6 Pick regardless of what is coming in.

My favourite line from the entire day's festivities:

"For Carlton supporters who are anxious, don't be anxious. Matthew is happy as a lark at Carlton and wants to stay. We want him to stay and we will get it fixed," Trigg said.

I've been reading through all the thoughts on our list and what people would do this offseason and I thought I'd post my own. Honestly I think a few of our players are being overrated in terms of trade and what not but it will be interesting to hear all your thoughts.

Henderson: Given the retirement of Rivers at Geelong they'll be looking for a new CHB. I think we'll get their first pick even if it is overs. Hendo has had a shocking year but he's 25, in his prime and a much better defender than forward. If Geelong don't like this I think it could be their first pick and a pick swap later on. I'd expect it to be just their first though as Geelong are about to have another crack next year and Henderson will be perfect for them.

Yarran: Think this bloke is a little overrated in terms of what pick we get. I can't see Richmond giving up their first for a bloke who is as temperamental as he is. I think we'll get their second which will be around 30 but in saying that it doesn't feel like enough so maybe a player like Astbury could be thrown in along with a later pick of ours. I think Yaz is worth about pick 20 right now so maybe we involve a third party to get it done.

Bell: I love this bloke but don't know how much Brisbane can give up considering their academy ties. Ideally we'd use him to lure Aish but I can't see that happening. Honestly don't know what we can expect for this bloke but maybe just a young Lion who wants to return to Melbourne.

Menzel: We can't trade this guy, huge talent just needs to get games under his belt without injuries. Hopefully Bolts points him in the right direction.

Kreuzer: We can't let this bloke leave, he bleeds Carlton and is the exact player you need for a rebuild. However, if pick 3 becomes available as compo I think SOS will let him walk.

With the draft I can see us taking Weitering at 2, then Weiderman or Burton at 10 and then a midfielder at 19. If pick 3 is ours then I'd like Parish, pair him up with Cripps and you've got the foundation of a very promising midfield.

Some very good ideas. Agree with most. My 2 cents:

Hendo: Agree Geelong will give up first. Probably overs, but they seem not to f around.

Yarran: Their 1st pick is too high. 2nd pick woefully to low. Start off with their first and we need to balance it from there. Yarran and our 3rd (39) for their 1st and 3rd (14 + 51). That values Yarran at pick ~18 using the AFL tables. That's about right. Plus 51 would be ballpark to match Rice (incidentally equals pick 39 under f/s)

Bell: Given the situation, I think we ought to do the right thing and trade him. The problem is I think he is worth more to the team than his trade value would be. 'Ballpark' recent benchmark trades would be Greenwood for #25 and Bernie Vince for #23. I'd say Bell is not quite as valuable as either of those, but he will be a year younger than Greenwood was and a few younger than Vince was. 5rSo a pick in the late 20s. There's a bunch of ways to make this work by swapping picks etc but it will depend on if we are adding Aish into the equation.

Menzel: Agree, get the body and mind right with this one and we have something special on our hands. Can we loan him out to Port Adelaide to do work experience under Chad Wingard for a season?

Krooz: My fave player but my gut says SOS will choose pick 3

I know us fans froth at the mouth late in the season over the possibilities, but I really believe we will be super active this off-season. Stay tuned!

Looks like Trigg caught my warning fire outside his house earlier today then :thumbsu:

I wonder how Watson is feeling today... Cringle?
Yes it'll be interesting.

Malty took a liking to the Rowes and Whites of the list. Less skilled... probably more athletic (Wattos chase down begs to differ)... but played a role.

I wonder how Bolton will go with this. Does he value kicking skills similar to the Hawks list?

I wonder if Bolton has a relationship with Langford, in the GF last year he looked like he was on the verge of being A grade and this year has spent alot of it at Box Hill.

Really wonder what SOS thinks of the two blokes we got from GWS last season. I haven't been impressed.
Thought both showed a bit for the first time on the weekend.

They are both far more undersized than I thought. Why is Whiley so light? He's been in the system 3 years and is supposed to be an inside mid.

The attractiveness of a band 1 compo for MK could have decreased markedly now that it looks increasingly likely that Bribane will get one for Leuenberger. The player we had in mid for pick 2 is unlikely to be there at 4.

Still think we would be a chance to get one of the two kps at 3 as lions may want a mid with 2.

A year and a half. Long time to be injured when you have already lost a season to a knee reco and there is the rub...handing out lucrative four year contracts to players with a history of injury, especially to feet. See Thomas, D.

Elephant in the room for mine in all the frothing over Kreuzers propensity to bleed blue.

Love the guy and the player but diligence is due no matter what.

Better not break down again. Heart and soul mean less when you miss half a career. Still, I love him. Tough decision. If he takes less money, 100% keep him. If he is after a pay bump, only a ballsy ceo would sign off on another big contract for someone made of glass.

I agree...for all the frothing, some intelligent thought processes must reach the final decison. Not so much 'thinking' with the heart.

I like Whiley. His contested work on the weekend was alright. Has problems with his game, but I'm sure he will fix them.

Ironically while Carlton was aiming for Jaksch, Whiley fits in and looks to be ahead of him in a number of areas at the moment.

There is still time to determine whether the trade was a success.
