Two different trades. We absolutely don't have to look at net gain between the two. Get Geelong to hand over 2016 picks if necessary.
Two different trades but I am sure the Geelong list management team would be aware we could land Carlisle for massive unders and using that as leverage to not give us a first rounder.

Ya reckon? I just don't see it. It's not this common occurrence that people make it out to be. Obviously I'd love to get him "for free" but I'll believe it when I see it.
If we get him for free it would add a bit of heat to the rivallary for the next few years. However, I agree, I'll believe it when I see it. I would hate for any of our own half decent players to burn us like that.

They can use Carlisle vs Henderson for comparative value perhaps but Henderson doesn't have WADA hanging over his head. Geelong can't use our dealings with another club to get themselves a better deal. They could say that we need #28 to help us with the Carlisle deal but #9 would do a better job.

Geelong can’t use our dealings but I am sure they will try. Having said that we still have the upper hand as we don’t have to show our Carlisle hand* until well after the Henderson trade will be done. Geelong has had a long run up with Henderson and I am sure there have been discussions between the clubs. I would be very disappointed if we yield #28 and J Walker, yet, it is a distinct possibility. Hopefully we are pushing hard for #9 for Henderson and #20.

There is a lot of water to go under the bridge, trade period cannot come quick enough!

Anyone else hoping SOS does a Kevin Costner from Draft Day? Turn out top pick into several top picks, still get the guys we want and back in our existing quarterback (Yarran) to turn it around?

Just me?

That would make sense but you can't do it without a combined approach and that's not going to happen.

We can't hold up the Schache card and then try and deal with Brisbane.

Backline sets up a team and stops the leakage, then providing confidence to the team.

Backline of in 2016:
Touhy Rowe Weitering
Docherty Carlisle Yarran

This is a solid as any on the competition. Add Jaksch, Jamo, Sheehan, Simmo and Thomas should play HB.

Mids of Cripps, Gibbs, Murphy, Graham, Byrne, Walsh, Curnow, Kreuzer, Bell is our issue - need to more a graders in there. Mathieson and C.Curnow be nice.

This leaves biggest hole although this can change with fast ball movement fwds of
Everitt, Casboult, Walker, Menzel, Smith
This is an issue.

I've only seen a little of Curnow but if he makes it as a mid I'll eat Walkers hat.
Parish is the one with clean hands and Crisp vision.

If the afl had trading on draft night, then perhaps. ..

It is when Essendon is involved

Absolutely Matty. Just you.

You can bet SOS and Bolton are working plenty of OT at the moment.
The lack of news regarding delistings suggests this is still very much a work in progress.
We need more class and depth in the midfield, we need KPP (x 3?), ideally a ruck and a
small forward are on the wish list as well.

We ain't getting them all!!!

Weitering and Silvagni are likely locks in the draft. Rice possible, even probable, unless the cost
is prohibitive for essentially another medium defender.

Carlisle could add some big man class to the list and seems keen enough to come, but there are
risks which could preclude us from committing a high pick in exchange. I can't help but think
Plowman is a plan B/either/or for Carlisle, not in addition to.

We cannot completely overlook a decent mid in the draft, although, if we snag an extra first or
second rounder, do we take a Curnow, Weideman or McKay in the hope of adding some KPF class?

(Phillips and Bugg are decent players and can help balance the list.) GWS might not be hard to deal with.
They have up to half a dozen academy boys to draft. Their best 22-30 are taking shape. Salary cap
pressures mean they will be happy to have multiple kids at the "bottom" of the list, rather than the
stocking up of high picks to start the franchise. They will want to show the academy kids that there
is a reason to choose AFL over other sports, that there is a pathway for more than just 1 or 2 boys.

Who do we keep? It has been done to death on here. Strategically Watson is a bigger question
mark than most think. Walker as part of a compromised trade for Hendo is not as bad as many think,
however which 22yo offers more upside Watson or Walker? How is Cam Giles' foot? Is Foster going
to make a player? Will Jaksch develop physically and find some urgency? Will Jones...........??????

Bolts and SOS are hopefully the solution to our problems, but their task has been complicated
enormously by our recruiters, Malthouse, and some very generous pay deals offer cap and precedent
problems when negotiating future deals.

Many on this board have knives sharpened ready to cut down SOS at the earliest opportunity. I
expect some left field Moneyball decisions in the short term to provide a launching pad. The masses
are impatient and are unlikely to cut you any slack after the MM shambles cost us a handful of best
22 players after eroding their effectiveness with an impossible game plan.

Good luck guys.....you are going to need it.

Foot note: Byrne and Sheehan when fit will be prominent best 22 players.

Well said Coona:thumbsu:;),I certainly don't think no way possibly Bolts& or Sos would be sitting back doing virtually nothing I'm sure they're planning everything quite intelligently.I know they don't need to come out& say what we're doing exactly,I'm sure there is a fair bit of activity going on behind the scenes& as ever time will tell what we get done but I do feel confident with Bolts& SOS:).

I would like to see us find an elusive midfielder to act as our link from Cripps to our outside runners (Gibbs Murph Yarran Boek).
But only after getting J Weitering.

Clayton Oliver

What I like about him is his burst of speed out of the stoppages: he plays a bit like Patrick Cripps, but seems to have more upside in terms of his natural breakaway pace in the first few metres.
Not sure if he's done enough to displace the guys in the top 10 - I think more likely to be late first round or early second.

Hendo pick for Clayton Oliver - two Cripps in hand :D:D:D

At this stage Weitering looks a lock for our pick #1 and from all reports will be good to go from day 1 next year.
Jamison will be around for at least another 2 years and Jaksch was recruited for a back role...........at least under the previous regime.
Rowe will likely make way and that's fair enough whilst Simpson may also be into his last year.

Then "all reports" are rubbish. The last tall I can remember doing any good in his first season was Kosi. That didn't work out too well injury-wise. Before him Josh Fraser and Stephen King suffered crippling injuries for being played too much too soon. Even if Weitering is the best eva tall draft pick he should be played sparingly in 2016 to allow his body to mature and harden.

They were the words of one of the coaches and not mine.

Have you seen him Windhover ?
I couldn't believe I was watching a 17 year old the other week.
Taking away age, he just looked to be thriving on harassing players, pushing them out of contests with his body and spoiling Schache's marking attempts with ease. Patrolled the back-line as though he was enjoying his time. I liked that about him.

Thanks for the info. There is much to be excited about. Picking a quality CHB is an ideal start to our rebuild. Regularly playing a kiddy KPD against grown men is an ideal way to destroy that rebuild before it starts, and for what?

Any defender would look frail and unreliable when they're trying to mind 3 tall forwards because Rowe spotted a butterfly and Tuohy can't reach their shoulders at full stretch.
Dick one on one vs Roughead was a massive face palm moment.

It was interesting listening to Sellars on 360 last night assessing Richmond as a team of 'nice lads'.

His view is the way to build a list is to go and find some 'killers' and he identified Cotchin as a weak captain.

I'm pretty sure a lot of our recruiting errors have occurred because we recruit for body type over mindset.
