If Laverde is so good why did he slide so far in the draft?

How could full time professional recruiters be so wrong that approx 15 clubs pass on him before EFC?

NB: not trying to be a smart arse - I just want to know why?
I wondered also, thought GWS or Geelong would take him

which hawks backman to get? burgoyne hodge or birchall
Don't think you can go wrong with any of the 3. Will all score roughly similar over the course of the season. Likely all be in the top 10 defenders at least by the end of the year. Could mount a case for each being the higher scorer of the group. Down to personal preference/price structure really.

That's not how the draft works mate. There is a first round slider in every draft. Other clubs would have had someone they considered more important (Like Carlton and Boekhorst :drunk:) and this talent slid to us.

James Hird was pick 79 mate.

We lost some speed in bundy and varcoe so we went and got cocky.if Bundy had of stayed draft day would of been interesting.

Wellsy always seems to pick up players out of sync, look at Harry Taylor, no one picked that. Turned out pretty well for us.

But I do agree, if we didn't loose Bundy, it would have played out differently.

The draft has changed a fair bit since then.

But there are sliders every year. Look at Nat Fyfe.

Teams dont always pick the best player in general, they pick the player they need to fill a role.

Plenty of other more "recent" examples:
Luke Parker was 40
Jack Newnes was 37
Lachie Neale was 58
Jaensch was 46
Dayne Beams was 29 - arguably the biggest steal of the lot
Dan Hannebury was 30
Roughhead was 31
Rory Sloane was 44 - second biggest steal

Relton Roberts was 38 too :p Judd_Magic

Its all about the development and who develops them I reckon. All the players have talent. Some more than others though obviously.

Yes I understand this.

But usually there is a reason why particular players slide - and 5-10 players is not unusual.

However when a nominal# 5 pick is passed over by approx 15 clubs until pick 20 or whatever something is amiss.

eg. Caleb Daniel because he is small.

Why did Laverde slide?

Simpson seems more concerned about Waters' ability to pick up his kids than my SC team. Very disappointing.

FMSCL. Why did Waters have to go down?

Wasn't he only touted as a pick 5 because collingwood showed interest? and maybe no one else did?

Yep^

NJURY ALERT | Beau Waters has suffered another setback with his troublesome shoulders, he appeared on track for a return during the NAB challenge but that is now in doubt.
Only traded him out a couple of days ago, upgrading to Kolodjashnij. *pats self on back*
