Shaun Marsh either hits 15 off 25, or 70 off 40 but he has to tick off the first before the second.

Maybe Marsh shouldn't open if that's the case. When he gets out cheap he eats up balls during the powerplay when there's runs to be scored with the fielders inside the circle. I did wonder tonight the way he was going if he was playing like he wanted to get back into the test team.

He's hands down the best cricketer from this state what are you on :drunk:

Obviously a weaker strain of hallucinogens than you...
My point is he's given a free ticket to the big show without any form, and he burns power play balls with the best of them. T20 has taken the same turn as 50 over did a few years ago with the openers now pushing equally as hard as the last few over slog hitting.

As for the 'hands down' call .... Pah-leeeease, gilly, Lilley, Kim Hughes, rod marsh Etc all say hi ;)

I think the only place we could afford a player that eats dots is at the top, but the pitch was two paced and his confidence is shocking. Anyone with a qualification and watching him on the bench after he was dismissed could see it.

What? None of those blokes are pushing for selection?

He also averages 40 with a sr of 120 in t20's.... I wouldn't call a big bash game the "big show"e either, you don't blood Fyfe in peel coming back from injury now do you

Small request Freo people - in my downtime, I've been writing a series of articles that have been getting run in an LGBTIQ publication - well more specifically the "L" part. In 2017, Australia is having the first ever Australian LGBTI Awards, a big gala black tie / red carpet event at the Sydney Opera House, and "li'l ol' me" has been nominated for an award in the journalism category. The awards recognise people who have made significant contributions to the LGBTI community in areas of sport (nominees include Matthew Mitcham, Daniel Kowalski, Alex Blackwell, Jason Ball), politics (Penny Wong, Louise Pratt + more), business, generally being a celebrity (Magda, Josh Thomas, Joel Creasey), an ally to the community... etc, etc. So a nomination is a reasonably big deal if you happen to be part of the community. My partner and I are flying over cos lord knows, I may never get a nomination for any sort of award again ever in my life. It's like the gay Logies! :D

Now to get the gong, you need to get the most votes - and you don't have to be queer to vote, just a very nice person. You don't even have to vote in every category, just the ones you want to. So, voting closes on 31st Dec, and if anyone feels so inclined, I would love it if you could click on the link below and go and throw a vote my way (category journalism, name has initials SF). I promise you you won't 'catch the gay' if you do - voting poses no threat to your heterosexuality at all. :)

Thanks!

Done. Congratulations on the nomination IP and good luck. You've been on of the best posters on this board for a very long time and I really hope you win :).

+1. Good luck - hope you have a great night IP. Have a big win and get the purple ball rolling for 2017.

An alternative viewpoint would be Marsh coming in at 4 or 5 where he can get a start slow by nudging the ball around for singles when the field is spread and give the strike to the set batsman who is seeing the ball better.

If the pitch is difficult it wouldn't get any easier as the innings progressed so it makes sense to get the score flowing when the ball is harder and easier to see and when most of the fielders have to be inside the circle.

That kind of game like last night where you need 7.5 runs per over, if you use the powerplay and get 50 off the first 6 overs it kills the game off quick.

Just think maybe in the back of his mind with Maddinson not taking his chance at test level Marsh might have felt a measured 70 or so not out might have been enough to give him a spot in the Sydney test.

They could open with Bell and Klinger, but the selectors overthink all that left hand/right hand, short boundary side combo stuff. Bravo not being able to bowl more than one over was likely the difference in the end.

Was wondering what happened to last year's cricket thread. It's all in here this summer is it?

Anyway we did our best to lose last night. With Bravo looking like being gone for the tournament and Finch likely to have a week or so more in the BBL (I'd drop him from the ODI if I was a selector though) the Renegades go from one of the best teams to being in trouble. With no all rounder as back up in the squad it's either play five bowlers who can't bat or have at least four overs of part time rubbish each innings (and 12 overs spin) until they can get themselves another import. Don't know who's available but they are probably not nearly the same standard and/or we take a week to get the diagnosis for Bravo and sign the player/fly them over.

Also this test match is starting to look a bit better. Still looks like a draw but a couple more wickets before Pakistan hits 60-70 and things could get rather interesting.

Nay, he always starts very slowly. It pays off for him (and the team) more often than not though.

I still can't believe Pakistan lost this test.T20 cricket mindset definitely helped.

I think Warne is right in saying test cricket should be played over 4 days compared to the traditional 5 days.
Did Warne say why? Surely he doesn't think that going from 5 days to 4 will bring the crowds back or increase TV ratings. Even he's not that dumb.
