Hey just wondering where De Boer and Mzungu would usually finish in your time trials? Cheers
Muz won it last 2 years I think after Menegola left (he'd always kill the time trials). Pretty sure MDB was near the top as well

I really struggle to feel sorry for Hird. The media are really pushing the sob story but I just cant sympathise.
Despite what hes done hes still a human with feelings and mental health is such a prevalent issue in soceity these days so thats why its getting so much attention, if the media didnt give a shit and swept it under the carpet and didnt give the sob story i think it would put things like lifeline backwards and people would be less inclined to reach out for help cause of the perception people dont care.

The media is stuck between a rock and a hardplace on the issue i think they have handled it well

My perception is he has issues now because he was caught. He cant cope with being rejected by society to an extent because of the mistakes hes made. So many unlucky people have their entire lives shaped by their conditions that I just cant put this guy in with them, he doesnt deserve it. He isnt even in the Cousins category because Ben had issues before he made it.

Hird has looked I'm the mirror. Pretty daunting experience for most people more so for james. Hope he can forgive himself for his and his family's sakes.

Scully and Tomlinson.

Top 8 were:

  1. Tom Scully
  2. Adam Tomlinson
  3. Tendai Mzungu
  4. Josh Kelly
  5. Tim Taranto
  6. Matt de Boer
  7. Toby Green
  8. Stephen Coniglio

Scully is a freaking machine. I remember when he was in his first year and he came to Subi and trounced young S Hill with an incredible display of 2 way running.
Pretty scary Kelly is such a good runner with his skills.
I still can't fathom what GWS want with Mz and DePig. Obviously they are both hardened professionals who know how to play at the top level, I imagine they would have been handy when GWS needed some tough, hard bodies in the early years but now?

Depth and also for their leadership from a training, attitude and prep perspective. Too many kids who are FIGJAM needs to be balanced out

Their team has an odd mix of very experienced mature players, experienced younger players then a huge gap to those next guys who would come in with injury and although they are highly talented, their lack of experience could cost them a prelim final/flag.

Mzungu and de Boer offer immediate impact with AFL ready bodies. I believe they were both picked up to play finals if there is an opening.

It is just my opinion but I think they are expecting to lose a very important player or two at the end of this year so they want to play extra careful with the chance for a flag.

Feathering the nest with some familiar faces for when they pitch for Fyfey?

Gubby: GWS has everything you could ever want, Nathan.
Fyfey: But I heard it was a steamy, landlocked, shit-tip that served as backwater to a city that considers itself the centre of the universe?
Gubby: Nah man, it's wicked. Talk to Gu and Matty De Boer.
Fyfey: Who?

ok that actually makes sense. I mean we know that both those guys would run through a brick wall rather than take a backward step on the field but its (obviously) their lack of class (which is why we cut them) that just doesn't gibe with the rest of the machine GWS has built.
But as you say, if you needed someone to come in and play a role in a high pressure game perhaps their experience is worth it if the choice is between them and a 1st or 2nd year player.

GWS were bulldozed in contested possession by the Dogs in the prelim - a team younger and with fewer games experience than them. They obviously want some experienced players that can commit to the contest.

Hey E shed

I remember here is Sydney everyone saying "Not sure why GWS want Stevie J" if he didn't get suspended could have helped them win a flag.

They seem to have a knack of cleverly filling holes

Stevie J is in a different league to the 2 of ours they got. I take your point though.

Last year we upgraded Sam Reid from the Rookie list and played him. He did his job. Think they are for similar role.
When things go to hell the younger talented guys need wise heads around them. Reid in the Gold Coast rnd 2 2 game at Metricon was a good example. He had played a few games for us, honestly without too much impact as I saw it. In that game GC rattled our cage early and we were facing going in 5 or 6 goals down at QTR time. Reid started appearing in the midfield and across half back. Nothing spectacular just saw the ball over the line for a reset when our structure was in dissarray, made sure he showed the way with composure to find a man in the clear with his disposals, that kind of thing. Did a lot to keep us in touch.

Plus the fact they clearly have very high training standards and they wouldn't be the first guys the club has sought so they would be an infience in that area. 5 years in culture is hopefully starting to build, but we're still new and it matters that there are people to make it clear what's required.
Think that will be their role and why Leon wanted them.
