So you're saying that they lack game experience at the elite level. That shouldn't fill us with dread, if anything hope. It means that with experience and conditioning, these guys have the potential in the next twelve months to see the Roos re-emerge as a potent force. After all, we do have the second youngest player list now in the AFL, and if they could almost steal the game against Geelong at this stage (with their endurance still developing and lack of experience) then that bodes well for the future in my mind. That said, we shouldn't expect miracles for this year, finishing around the middle of the ladder at the team's present level of youth and inexperience in 2017 will mean that we are in for an exciting period 2018-2021.Love the optimism, but have you watched our last two games? We looked ragged last in the 4th quarter last week and Unfortunately its generally the unconditioned kids that run out of petrol tickets in the last. Sam Gibson our all day runner is just shy of 31 years. Endurance athletes peak between 25 and 30 years old and VO2 Max doesn't decline till 30 in the general population and typically later in athletes.
Not everybody may see it my way, but we do all look at the world differently. Building the team into a force will be a marathon (not a sprint) and there are no short cuts. But as long as we see steady improvement throughout the season then we should all be heartened.
