:( Didn't quite get there. Given the turmoil late last season and on-field form this season, probably not too bad!
The issue will be next season. If we dont get some big name recruits, i reckon this figure could drop to 35k.

To get to 40k will be a symbolic victory but it is a huge decline on last year. That 5k drop is half Boomer related and half performance IMO. But yes next year is now the huge challenge. Barring some big name recruits it will be a very hard message to sell that there is much to be excited by next year. I know everyone here will be signing up regardless etc etc but like at any club people lose enthusiasm when times are hard.

BTW what happened to those record membership numbers we were hearing about earlier on??

Sorry, I didn't mean to pick on your post in isolation here sweetie. I still maintain 'a glass half full' here. Yes we have lost games this season that we jolly well should have won! No arguement, and that's what the club needs to go back and analyse. We need to keep perspective that we went last season from being the oldest listed player team in the league to now second-youngest. We also need to keep the perspective that we are in fact only three games from the eight and only three games from the #4 position on the ladder. We are where we are with a very young list of players. The 2017 season is as tight and competitive as any in the AFLs history.

We are not as bad as our position on the ladder might say, and in fact I maintain that we are going to be the powerforce in the AFL in the future. But yes we do need to recruit better and our biggest weakness is that we have absolutley no current stand out players compared against other teams who can open up a game, inspire the team, and rip apart the opposition like Schimmelbush, Blight, Carey, Greig, Schwass and Archer could (we have no Buddy Franklin, or Gary Abblett). Others might disagree, but that is definitely my opinion and mine alone.

Yep, the numbers will continue to tick into August as well.

2015 last update was 5/9/15. Finished with 41,418.

2016 - 5/9/16 45,105
Yep, i realise that the sales do continue on for several weeks yet, but thought the ''official'' AFL figure was the end of June, believe me i'm more than happy to be wrong on that count.:D

I actually agree with you, if we can land just One or even two name players, i think the position on the ladder could change dramatically. As i intimated earlier, given the events of late last year combined with performances this season, i really don't think the member numbers are that bad.

P.S: I really can't remember the last time someone called me ''sweetie'' :D

Don't take it too much to heart, I call everyone sweetie ☺

The tally in the Arden Street offices read 40,006 on Friday morning, with the Roos’ loyal fans heeding the call to ‘Be A Shinboner’ in 2017.

The club has enjoyed significant growth in its reserved seat memberships, while welcoming close to 6,000 new members this season.

Tasmanian membership has also been strong, with almost 7,000 signed up in the Roos’ home away from home.

Geez the Tigs fans are bloody fickle.

What about * at +60%? So much for all the "back our boys" BS last year. In years to come, they'll have completely wiped 2016 from their history.

Donialism on an epic scale.
With no small amount of assistance from the AFL too. Literally gifted them Zach Merrett and Andy McGrath was profit from their crimes.

Sorry, but until we see the corresponding results for 2017-2018, this means stuff all, evidenced by the likes of Tigers, Bombers. If your club is playing good footy, it's going to mean bums on seats and quite frankly we stink at present, so to me it's no surprise. But i'm sure talk of relocation will be trotted out yet again on the back of these figures.

So, first of all, great to see us crack 40,000 members. :thumbsu: Great work by our membership department and the 'most passionate supporters' in the AFL to sign up, despite the downturn in fortunes and the loss of Boomer in particular. Some might remember a GoDees supporter here (or main board?) trumpeting their higher membership numbers this year (first time in years) which are, interestingly, only about 1,500 more than ours despite our different fortunes. After first 'shutting up', we then stick fat as members.

Secondly, the greater ongoing issue we face which allows negative press to abound is the attendance figures. We've struggled to match the likes of Dogs and Saints, and now Dees, even when we've been up and they've been down. They do comparatively better in this regard, just as we do comparably better in membership. Our good record in converting supporters to members is great, but probably only serves to highlight in some ways, our small supporter base and, therefore, attendances. I suspect there is a vicious cycle in some ways; lower crowds begat lower crowds, in the same way we don't get a lot of noise either. It comes across as timidity. Of course, from a purely factual point of view, it doesn't matter if our attendances are the smallest of Victorian clubs; someone has to be. However, from a public perception point of view it diminishes our attractiveness as a brand and at worst, could prove fatal.

So, I'd like to think and am assuming that 'fan development' and 'attendance' improvement are next in line, strategy wise, to complement the wonderful work that's been done to strengthen membership levels. From a purely tactical point of view, Kelly and/or Martin will help with an initial lift which I hope our on-field performances match.
