I personally will be really interested throughout the season to see who gets a Rising Star nomination for us this year. thought we were snubbed a few times last season like Cal Ah Chee in round 17 and Fiorini in round 23 but we have a LOT of really talented guys coming through this year.

Of those eligible, could see the following getting nominations:

Fiorini (2 games, avg 24.5 disposals, 1 goal and 6.5 tackles) - Could genuinely take out the whole thing. Thought he was very stiff to miss out in round 23 last year. Barrass played a decent game that week too but Fiorini was probably one of, if not the best performed player of that whole weekend of football IMO
round 22 update: 12 games, avg 21.5 disposals, 0.4 goals, 1.9 clearances and 2.8 tackles
Standout performances:
Round 4: 31 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 4 I50's, 6 clearances
Round 8: 24 disposals, 10 marks, 3 tackles, 3 I50's, 3 clearances
Round 14: 26 disposals, 11 marks, 1 goal, 1 tackle, 3 I50's, 1 clearance
Round 15: 24 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal, 6 tackles, 3 I50's, 4 clearances
Round 18: 29 disposals, 7 marks, 4 tackles, 3 I50's, 3 clearances

Schoenfeld (4 games, avg 14 disposals, 3.5 tackles and 1.5 rebound 50's) - Thought he played fairly well last year in his few games considering he was brought in to the senior team way too early. the possibility is there but I would think it unlikely, although Billy Hartung received one in 2015 and they are very similar players.
Round 22 update: 4 games, avg 11.8 disposals, 2.8 marks, 0.8 goals, 2.2 tackles

Ainsworth (3 JLT games, avg 7.6 disposals, 1.6 tackles, 1.3 goals @ 63% TOG) - Would think he's probably with Fiorini as a lock to get one at one point this season. Any 2 goal, 15 + disposal game should get him there and has a lot of flair from what i've seen which will go a long way to getting noticed. should play plenty of games as well.
Round 22 update: 12 games, avg 11.6 disposals, 3.5 marks, 1.2 goals, 3.0 tackles
Standout performances:
Round 15: 14 disposals, 3 marks, 4 goals, 3 tackles @ 90%DE
Round 18: 12 disposals, 6 marks, 2 goals, 2 behinds, 4 tackles
Round 22: 10 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals, 1 tackle*

Scrimshaw (no AFL level games) - I wouldn't have thought super likely because I haven't seen or heard much about him this off season but you don't get taken at No.7 in the draft for no reason. Likely a development year similar to Wrights 2015 but anything could happen if he breaks into the team later in the year.
Round 22 update: 4 games, avg 10 disposals, 4 marks, 0.8 tackles, 2.0 rebound 50's

Brodie (3 JLT games, avg 10.6 disposals, 0.6 goals, 2 tackles, @ 53% TOG) - Hope he gets a gig round 1 because I thought he was best performed in JLT's of all our draftees, although looks unlikely at this point. should get a nomination if he produces anything like he did against Essendon or Brisbane at any point during the season.
Round 22 update: 2 games, avg 9 disposals, 2 marks, 6 tackles 2 clearances

Bowes (2 JLT games, avg 11 disposals, 1.5 rebound 50's, 1.5 tackles @ 66% TOG) - Would need a much better game than any of his JLT's but definitely has the talent and a bit of hype even in Victorian media which will help. might be hard to get one playing back flank as Callum Mills showed last year not even getting a nomination til round 16 but should still get one during the year.
Round 22 update: 11 games, avg 12.4 disposals, 2.9 marks, 2.3 tackles, 1.4 rebound 50's

Scheer (no afl level games) - I would think not if he's going to be played predominantly forward, having said that I think he'll surprise a few and if he gets a game in the middle could definitely pick up a nomination, remembering as well that he was ranked No.2 for contested ball winners by Cal Twomey behind Brodie last year.
Round 22 update: 3 games, avg 9.3 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles

Macpherson - has some exposure last year and was too good for the NEAFL. hasn't really been able to shine being played out of position but has shown in patches that he has the talent to make it in the AFL, just needs a good go at it - especially with a run in the midfield at some point. Love his aggression and tackling too - notably ranked 2nd in average tackles I50 for rising star eligible players.
Round 22 update - 7 games, 11.7 disposals, 3.6 marks, 0.4 goals, 3.3 tackles (1.7 I50)

Spencer - If I'm being honest, did not expect him to come on and get a game - at least not this year, but his composure under pressure, consistency with kicking combined with his actual defensive 1 on 1 work has been nothing short of incredible for an undersized KPD. Looking forward to him getting a more consistent run and seeing what he can do with a few preseasons. Not sure he has the profile to get a nomination for rising star but would certainly be deserving at some point next season. would like to see him tackle more though
Round 22 update: 4 games, avg 14.0 disposals, 6.0 marks, 0.5 tackles, 1.2 rebound 50's and 4 1%ers

They did Fiorini a favour.

If you are nominated in a season pretty sure you are ineligible for the award the next year. So he is only in this year b/c they passed on him in round 23. Fine by me.

That is not the case. Many players have multiple nominations, such as Orazio Fantasia (2015 & 2016)

My bad.
I think it was the other way around and my recollection was off. Barass would be ineligible this year (too old) so it was the last chance for him. And he was solid as a rookie defender last year.

Round 1: Suns vs Lions

Ben Ainsworth
14 disposals, 4 marks, 2 goals, 6 tackles, 1 jumper punch on harris andrews

Jack Bowes
11 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles

Josh Schoenfeld
10 disposals, 3 marks, 1 goal, 4 tackles

pretty lacklustre game, although ainsworth was a positive in terms of our rising stars. probably a couple ahead of him in terms of getting a nomination for this week, but had a good start to the season.

2017 Eligible Rising Stars
Ben Ainsworth
Jack Bowes
Will Brodie
Brayden Fiorini
Darcy Macpherson
Brad Scheer
Josh Schoenfeld
Jack Scrimshaw
Max Spencer

One more goal + a win I think would have gotten Ainsworth the nod
Think it's between Powell-Pepper and McGrath for round 1 though so far

I think Bowes looked pretty good when he got the ball.
Definitely can see the class
The lace of short chip he served up to lynch was poised for a youngster

I have a feeling they might go with McGrath from Essendon. Being the no. 1 pick, a VIC team, on the FTA televised game, has all the hype unlike Fiorini -being a 2nd year player in QLD.

But Fiorini would have to be up there as one of the favourites to win overall at the moment. Leads all rising stars in disposals per game, 2nd in clearances, going @ 77% efficiency, 3.5 tackles and a goal a game*

*Admittedly he has only played 2 games, but still.

Nominations usually go to those in winning teams. Suns won Essendon didn't.
To me Fiorini's 31 disposals (10 contested) 6 Clearances beats McGraths 28 disposals (6 contested) easily.
All down to judges...

Got on for $18 straight after the game last night. Just wanted to make sure he was locked into best 22 before investing.

It's McGrath v Fiorini this week... McGrath played decent in Rd 1 so maybe they think he is owed a nomination (probably forgetting that Fiorini is more than owed a nomination after last year's game). Odds are he will get dudded again as GC always get dudded for this award as they don't get the hype of the Vic counterparts.

Fitoroni is a savoury treat from the South of italy
Part meatball part cheesecake it's often served with a slice of cantaloupe and is quite delicious
Fiorini plays footy for us
haha! thats funny.

I think Fiorini deserves it but I see McGrath getting it due to playing in Vic

Fiorini SHOULD get it. But in saying that i get the feeling he'll get snubbed again by either McGrath or Castagna
