Some will say pessimistic. I'm trying to take bias out of it, and arrive at my final thought being that as a team, we now rely massively on Beams and Zorko. If Zorko's form keeps up, and Beams' body holds up, we could be OK, and end up at 15-16 with 6-7 wins. But without Rocky, if Beama goes down, we are in big trouble. I'm not looking for wins this year. I'm looking for improving 4-quarter efforts, and more growth in our youngens.

You're not wrong about us but look at who the Gold Coast midfield relies on. Similarly Carlton or North.

That was my thinking, North and Carlton now they have lost Gibbs and Docherty have horrid depth and predominantly only youngsters (and I'm not convinced at all by the quality of the North young brigade).

Carlton will struggle with no Gibbs or Doc. But other than that, they've got half of the GWS draft picks on their list, and I think they've got more growth in their young players than we do. They're probably a year ahead of us as well.

North - they could be in real trouble here. We could see someone like Jed Anderson (or a couple of their other guys) really take a step up, but it's tough to see how they can improve on last year, particularly with their retirements. I think if anyone takes the spoon off us, it will be Norf.

We are going to depend hugely on whether anyone steps up to cover Rocky, on Zorko's continued good form, and on Beams not getting injured. He did quite well last year, but if I were to take odds on Beams body surviving another 12 months, I don't know which way I'd fall. Supporting the Lions for this long, I'm past the stage where I'm keen to get my hopes up. Each time I have done, they've been dashed. So instead, I keep my expectations low so that we can't help but meet them. We showed real improvement at the end of last year, but I think we're still so far behind the rest of the comp, that even that improvement leaves us well off the pace.

You don't expect Rich, Bastinac, NRobbo or Bundy to step up in the absence of Beams or Zorko?

They might take a little bit of a step up, but I think most would agree that those 4 are solid b-graders. Rich has never delivered on potential. Basti hasn't been in and out of the team. NRobbo - genuinely good 2017, just hope he can continue to improve in 2018. Bundy will take a while to get up to speed again. He's been a long time out.

General consensus doesn't appear to be positive in terms of the Eagles, Saints and Pies 2018 prospects. Difficult to disagree really.

Quite a few tipping Suns for the spoon though which on talent alone would be a terrible result for them. Their list should be better than winning the spoon and their chances of retaining Lynch would fall away significantly you would think if they do finish last

I tipped the Suns to finish last as due to Commonwelth games their start to the year is a shocker and will be hard to come back from IMO.
