I agree. But the AFL then instituted a cost of living allowance, and a retention allowance for Brisbane which changed the game for us at the time.

Those measures have been abolished. Thus it will be tougher for the Suns than it was for us.

I am giving them a go, I am just suggesting there is great concern for me if the AFL don’t put some measures in place to stop Gold Coast becoming a player academy for the VIc teams like we once were.
Oops! Forgot about the CoLA...:rolleyes: I still think they will make it, but will need to revise my argument (Lol!)... I'll get back to you shortly... :)

GCS are goneski, Kirky.
By the time the AFL step in it will be too late.

I am trying to work out where “loading up” came from? Doesn’t seem to have any relation to anything I’ve quoted. We also likely have more picks than we started with, so really not getting your point here at all.

Our next pick will fall early in the third round, which would be late second if not for free agency.

So, I don’t really follow.

We started with 13, 33, 38. So we never started with the opportunity to land other players in the top 30...

We traded 13 for 26, 28 and 40.
We then effectively traded Hanners for pick 39 as well as transferred that pick 28 into a 2019 second round, likely to be early to mid 20s.

After using 26 & 33 to take Blakey leaving us with 39, 40, 41 (with a downgrade of 38 I think).

So, ignoring pick 39 from the Hannebery trade, effectively we have:

Blakey rated pick 7 for 13 (so a 6 place upgrade), 7 place downgrade from 33 to 40 as well as pick 41.

So in essence we picked up an extra draft pick during the points trade, an extra during the Hannebery trade and transferred a second we’d otherwise waste in the Blakey trade into 2019 giving us a 7 place downgrade in 2nd / 3rd round selection (33 to 40) and a 6 place upgrade in the first round (13 to 7).

So we are likely to have more draft picks in that area than we would otherwise have. Where we are held to “ransom” is if there is a rogue bid, but we are covered up to around pick 4 before it has any real negative impact on what our drafting.

I still don’t really get the point. I think we have improved our middle drafting position as well as getting Blakey and improving our 2019 position.

nice work

i doubt marsh would be looking around unless there was interest out there already. hope he stays though.

Harry Marsh is no star but he is a better Footballer than than Robbie Fox & James Rose combined.
He actually should have stayed in for the GF in 16 after a good Prelim and was dropped for an unfit selfish McVeigh.

SO at this point, considering what Harley said we were trying to do this trade period, we have got Clarke to add depth to our midfield? It just seems we haven't been able to execute what we wanted to do. No doubt the narrative will change, post deadline, but we are currently sitting on a 'D' result. I suppose we pray for a healthy list, as the only gains we will have will be from within.

No he shouldn't have, he was pretty average against the Cats while McVeigh was also co-captain at the time.
He did nothing wrong and Macca like Tippett should never had played , HM and Nanka in we win regardless of the cheating Scott Jeffrey.

We probs won't have a choice, if he has a commitment form Carlton he can simply not sign a new contract and they can take him for free

i don't think so. he can only be taken as a delisted free agent if we delist him. if he delists himself he has to go to the draft and carlton have already said they don't have picks for him.

D is very very generous

He was fine against the Cats, had very little to do, Mills wasn't fit enough to replace him

In any event I actually don't mind him in the 22, but Nick Smith is probably holding his spot. He's a good stopper on tall and small, has a good boot on him, but just doesn't get enough of the ball.

That's correct but the likelihood is that he still gets to the Blues
