I kind of thought after the way we lost to GWS in the final that we would be ruthless with our list management and have a massive clean out of the list and try to be aggressive as possible during the trade period to get what we needed. Harley publicly stated the type of players we desperately need and I thought this would make it clear that we were going to actively acquire those players.

Instead I feel like we have been very passive. The Hannebery trade was a disaster and we seem to have only cited a few players to target, which we have failed to acquire thus far and are retaining players on the list that have tried and failed countless times.

I know we still have a few days to go but it seems as though our activities have concluded and I personally am disappointed that we weren't a little more assertive with our actions.

Not quick , but is a complete player

He better work out, we've put all our eggs in Blakey's basket in the best draft we've seen in years. It is why I'm livid with Harley, I really wanted a live pick before Blakely.

so they have to use a pick on him that maybe means we move up one spot in the draft.

No they don't, if nobody takes him in the main draft (which is probable), there is another delisted free agency period in which they could pick him up for nothing

It does appear to be heading that way, and if so it is disappointing, but lets wait until Wednesday night before we judge

i said in my initial post: we should not delist him. if he has a contract offer and delists himself as far as i know he has to take a pick in the draft.

Just out of interest, who out of Florent, Hayward, Mills or Heeney would you have given up to get that pick?

We have precedence with Membrey delisting a player to help them get to their club of choice.

Of course COLA and the trade ban decisions buggered us up. Separate issues. My point related to the need for performance based contracts, particularly among the higher paid players. Blaming everything on the AFL is avoidance of issues within the Club's control.

No avoidance of issues at all actually.
The fact is that our club list managers have to work significantly harder & have to pay significantly more & have a significantly less player pool to trade in from based on reluctance of players to move interstate. We have to live with that, fine, but it was something that was recognised by the then head honchos Jackson etc, when they knew we would need allowances put in place to alleviate some of the inequities of being an AFL club in a non traditional AFL state. By all means remove the CoLA but for heavens sake, don't then place a trade ban on us in attempt to send us spiraling back to the Gary Buchanara years where we were a basket case.
You know that the Victorian clubs don't want an equal competition at all want to see us in that bad place again while giving lip service publicly of how well run a club we are.
Spare me the sympathy you show for the AFL & lack of sympathy for our club. I just don't get that but that's your choice.
For the record though, we will see it out, no thanks to the AFL, because we ARE an extremely well run club & not the reactive club that some of you guys are trying to portray us to be. Yes it is more difficult for us to land a B grade player with a reported inflated salary & pick, then it is for the Hawks to bring in 2 A grade players with a lesser salary & a third round pick. There it is right there in your face. Not sure what more proof is needed than that.
That any Swan supporter would choose to ridicule our own club rather than raise the pure inequities of the AFL that have swung significantly towards the Victorian clubs & all the more violently away from the Northern clubs, with the Swans, after 38 years in Sydney, perhaps being strong enough to get over these inequities.
But no thanks to the immediate suspension of the CoLA & trade ban.
Some of us prefer to slam the club more than the AFL for the situation & others prefer to put more of the blame on the handcuffs that were placed on us by the AFL. Let's just leave it at that.

Go Bloods!

Disappointed that marsh wants out. Performed well enough when chosen but cant blame the bloke for looking for more opportunities

If I was sitting as 'steak knives' waiting for a contract offer then I'd probably contemplate alternatives too. It is as it is, but at the player level it's not nice to know you are one of four not offered a contract but also not delisted.......waiting and observing contact offers elsewhere

We should've targeted an uncontracted player (12 months ago!) that was worth pick 13 and simply traded the pick, then we could've had Blakey and another starting 22 quality player.

We obviously put all of our eggs in the Moore basket and completely cocked it up

Would have tried to bundle our future first with our first this year. Who knows. Just don't think Harley has been good at all, in fact he's done diddly squat this week.

As others have pointed out, how exactly would you have achieved that live pick before Blakey without trading our talented players we need.

As I pointed out earlier, pending where Blakey is bid, we have improved our draft selections in this draft overall as well as getting likely early to mid second rounder for 2019.

You can't be livid with Harley for that. Hanners was never going to get us that pick but we should have done better in that trade. we were pantsed big time by the Aints.

Isn't that 2019 pick for an academy kid as well? I'd like to have a live pick you know, heaven knows we need some quality mids.

So I can't be annoyed at the list manager for being rubbish at the trade table?

I think we went cold on Moore when he had recurrence of injury. If no more trades happen we'll just have to bring in Ling or O'Riorrdan to still allow Jones and Mills to go midfield.

This whole GWS and GCS being used as a development academy for VIC teams is pathetic. What.....are all 20 year old VICS Mummy boys or something????
