Agree re: Cameron, I think his problem might have been coming In for a 2 ruck experiment against the GC. After that loss there was probably a view from the coaches that the experiment didn’t work. Not necessarily a knock on Cameron. If I remember correctly he spent most of the second half on the bench as the swans tried to work their way back into the game with plan A.

We had two rucks in my primary school footy team. I am reclining in genteel comfort on the aged pension now. Two rucks is hardly an experiment.

Bet they weren’t as tall as cripps

Hunter got the name swingman from the swing and a miss he tried against Big Barry after the great man had put the scragging Staker to sleep. Biggest pretender tough guy to ever play the game.
There's not many players I genuinely despise but Hunter was one of them. Absolute campaigner.

Robbo is not terrible he is just a vanilla player. Doesn't do anything horribly and doesn't do anything great.

Craig Bird-ish.

As a reminder that you shouldn't make your assessments on trade period before the trade period is over, or even after the trade period is over, until you see what the players traded can do for their new clubs and what the draft picks received/given bring...

Here are some reviews of last years trade period. Look at Port Adelaide's scores, everyone thought they had done great:

Key quote: "Port came, saw and conquered this Trade Period."

Actually, not everyone, here is one review that was prescient enough to realise that the Power had just taken a big risk giving some big contracts to players with big question marks on them:

https://www.theroar.com.au/2017/10/...e-period-report-card-every-club-graded-voted/

Key quote: "They haven’t sold the farm to bring in any of these players but they’ve tied up something in the area of $1.5 million to $2 million of salary cap in long-term contracts for them. That comes at an opportunity cost and if these players don’t lift Port to the next level in 2018 they may find themselves regretting being too eager instead of waiting for the right time to strike and make a big signing."

We are clearly positioning ourselves to make a big signing or two, clearing cap space by moving on players that were deemed not to be performing at the level their wages warranted and holding on to a couple of veteran players for just one more year. We had Blakey coming in the draft this year that limited what we could give away in terms of draft picks because we needed to retain enough points to make a bid in the top 10. Next year should present the best opportunity we have for making a big play, using the combination of key retirements, cleared cap and most likely no first round academy pick to be a key player in a big deal or two. We should be patient and wait for the player/s that we really want rather than make moves for the sake of making moves. We had a couple of targets that we wanted this year, ultimately they stayed with their current clubs on improved deals. We may well still have a player in mind that we have been quiet about, we need to wait and see. But ultimately I would definitely rather the club hold off for a season before making the big move we really want to make than to make rushed/panicked decisions now for players that are just available but not so desirable.

He needs to go to a team that will play him in their best 22. Carlton may do for a short time but that won't last.

Carlton would probably pay him more (Not ridiculous money, just more) as well on a longer contract. I reckon we would sign him for 1 year at close to minimum wage.

We don’t trade in that’s fine

But we piss away our picks like we have an endless supply

I am confused with this comment.

We traded 13 (which would have been used on Blakey plus some of our second pick) for an additional second rounder and early third rounder.

Therefore we still get Blakey, with the additional picks to use on players in a strong draft.

We might have intended to use the additional picks for trades (Vandenberg, Langdon) but with no luck securing them we now have additional earlier picks to draft with.

Once Blakey was rated a 5 to 10 pick this was the only strategy we had, other than using pick 13 to get inside the top 5 but that would have involved someone like Hayward, Florent etc to do so or use pick 13 for Moore which was the other option.

None of what has happened has not been thought through or not predicted.

We gave away 28

We gave away 28

Yes we did and got back 39 which again means that we still have that additional pick to trade or draft inside the top 40.

The strategy to convert 13 to three picks inside the top 40 was the right decision, once we couldn’t convert it to a lower pick or give to Collingwood for Moore.

I wonder if that cost them Polec and Wingard.

So we gave 28 and Hannebery and got back 39 and next years 2nd round (19-36) and that’s reasonable? C’mon, not even close!
