You are missing one very important thing, $2.4m of salary cap space over the next 3 years.

The deal was fair and reasonable based on the season Hanners had and his current state of his body.

Oh and we are not talking about the reasonableness of that deal. The comment refers to the strategy of converting one pick into 3 due to the situation we have with Blakey.

No, I’m not missing anything. So what would you like to send Mills away for? I mean, following the season he had and according to your logic...it’d be peanuts!

In the event Mills wanted to leave, based on his age, career to date and that his injury doesn’t look to be long term, one early and one late first rounder.

Discussing what Mills and Hanners can offer from this date onwards is like chalk and cheese and not even worth debating.

This makes me laugh. You know Hannebery’s injury is long term? You know he wanted to leave? You consider 27 to be old?

You clearly have no respect for him, unlike St Kilda, who made us out to be insipid at the negotiating table...****ing insipid!

Just read up on Beams, that’s not happening. Pies would miss on Quaynor & Kelly and they clearly need the points and subsequently the picks to make that happen.

I have the up most respect for what Hanners has done for our club and it will be sad to see him go and play in different colours next year. He will be remembered as a legend of our club.

But none of that mitigates where both parties found themselves at the end of this year in relation to his worth at the club over the next 3 years in his current state of mind and body.

I will ask you this, why has no one in the AFL community come out and given a negative slant on the deal for either us or Hanners. In fact most of the AFL Community are somewhat worried for St Kilda in terms of the salary and length?

There would be no one better placed to understand the value of what Hannebery has been able to achieve than the coaches and football managers of our club.

There are also no better placed people than them to make an assessment on what they expect his output to be over the next few years.

This isn't about respecting or disrespecting him. I don't think any of us on here are not very grateful for the football Hannebery played for us for most of the last decade. But equally I don't think any of us on here think that his output recently was up to the standards needed to justify his salary.

We won't know for sure for a season or two if we made the right decision. It may be that we made a big mistake. It may also be that St Kilda has just made a big mistake. For Dan's sake I hope he is able to continue to contribute at AFL level, but I'm inclined to think we made a difficult but justified call.

For St Kilda to take on the risk for us we had to lower our expectations in a trade. It is a big risk, they are going to be spending a lot of money on him well into his 30s, so it required us to lower our demands. The cap space we just freed up can be just as valuable to us as a high draft pick or another player to us, it shouldn't be underestimated.

A. It’s utmost respect
B. There should not be a question mark on your final sentence.
C. There have been, they’ve asked why the **** we gave them 28.

The Beams one is interesting on a number of levels. I wonder how Quaynor and Kelly feels as NGA and FS candidates for Collingwood. If 18 goes, they have no points for these kids.

That’s great. I’m glad you know exactly how everyone feels, I know I will certainly sleep better at night knowing this.

I have not seen one article or one discussion where it was a disappointment where we “swapped” 28 for 39.

We didn’t just give them 28, don’t be so loose with the truth.

No you read someone say that Hunter the rat was a swingman type , NO ONE CALLED HIM THAT WHEN HE WAS PLAYING !

I have dim memories of Pike and Darrel White both being called Swingmen during their careers. That's going back aways. Defintely never used to hear it in the 90s.

This slang for Utilities has been around for close to a generation now, though. I don't think it's going away. It just fits the description of the role too well.

However, I'm with you on "Quarterback". That sears my brain like "worm burner"

Yeah sorry mate, like Menzel, you’ve been around for a while and we suggest you shop around!

I'm often compared to Swans players though, so I'm about the level and could be a valuable pickup.
The height of McCartin, the marking power of Buddy, the tank of Stoddart, the ball magnetism of Rohan, the kicking of Hanners and the speed of McV.
300k per year. And I'm willing to spend an 8 game suspension on the right candidate such as Heath Shaw or Rance.

We didn't just give them 28. We downgraded 28 to 39. That is the equivalent of us giving them pick 54.

So that makes the trade Hannebery and Pick 54 for a yet to be determined second round pick. I suspect it will be one in the low 20s, St Kilda are a mess. Considering they are taking on his massive contract which allows us to bring in a player who does justify the price tag, I think that is reasonable.

We aren't trading him on the value of his past output, we are trading him on the value of his future output.

People repeat what they hear. Blame the media and to peel back the layers further the Commentators. If you continuously say **** in front of a little kid have a guess what his favourite word will be ?

I forgot my kid was in the back seat of the car the other day and told Siri to “go **** herself”. Kid hasn’t stopped laughing since and I’m in the dog house.

The thread has been cleaned up, please play nice, keep it on topic, and if you want to have arguments about political correctness and social issues there are plenty of threads for that either on the BSB or on the Society, Religion and Politics subforum

Can you wait til I read the fights before deleting? :p
