Might be tough, but they get paid well.
I think i get well paid also but i work hard for it and deserve every cent. Think in most cases if you strive hard enough to reach your dream, you should get rewarded for all that hard work. Sometimes life doesnt reward accordingly but think in most cases it does. Good on em.

On the grand scheme of things though AFL footballers have it fairly easy when it comes to professional sports.
Nope no way. No other job requires the level of invasiveness in your life like being a professional footballer.

Imagine having to be involved with USADA it would be the worst. Constantly having to tell people where you are what you’re doing, how you’re feeling each morning. Your diet, sleep etc controlled by someone. You get what 2 weeks off of a year but it’s not really time off as you’ve got standards you have to maintain etc.

You’ve also got the whole social media and privacy thing if you’re a big name.

It’s such an insane environment I’m surprised more don’t go nuts when they finish up there careers.

You might have missed the last word in SizeMatters post.

I'm always amazed at ppl who thingk that footballers should be 100% footballers all the time like they are robots or characters in a video game rather than ppl.

At the end of the day they need to balance between football and non football to get the most out of themselves as ppl and as footballers.

These guys are responsible for their own careers all the club can do is foster an environment where there is sufficient talent pool to replace those who are unable to take on that level of personal responsibility.

I think the money outweighs the invasion of privacy and workload. It would outweigh it significantly.

18-22 year olds probably dont have the same perspective on money as people in their 30s and beyond.

It wouldn’t for me. Money doesn’t equal happiness far from it.

Not to mention all the perks such as girls etc

Compare that to some guy who does some kind of hard manual labour and gets paid much less

Lol ask Josh how well his perks went for him up here. More than a few who couldn’t catch a root in the brothel. Being an AFL player doesn’t help with girls, if you ain’t got game you ain’t got game.

I know some labourers who do mighty fine with the ladies. Very untrue

Question: how many hours a week do you think the average footballer puts in?

I would guess around 30 hours of gym, running, game practice etc

Well that's mainly from being in Brisbane - would be very different in Melbourne.

The Jarrad Grants of the world would still struggle down there too I would wager.

If Chumlee can get a hot girlfriend well...

During the season proper (March-August) they average 60 hours a week. This also includes game time and is more time consuming if they are playing interstate of course but 60 hours a week is the average.

Then there’s sponsership commitments, club commitments going to local clubs and community engagement.

The fact you’d never be able to let your hair down without some ****head and a video camera catching your every move. (Hogan’s cigarette).

Stressful life. Not all can hack it or enjoy it. The fact you can’t just piss off with ya mates on any given weekend and get away from life. It’s an extremely controlled stressful full on environment.

As more money enters the sport the standards get higher and the lifestyle tougher. I’d love for the lions to make a video showing just how many hours the boys put in in a given week. I think it would be really insightful a week in the life following a couple of the boys.

I feel a lot of supporters don’t actually understand just how hard these guys are working.
