Don't like bagging the kid out but he really would have dragged us down if we held him to his contract. Can't have blokes like that in the club his moping bout would have negatively influenced the squad.

Bailey and Wooller are effectively his replacements due to the late bid on Ballenden. Win/win.

Kids moving on is bloody hard especially when they have been high achievers who have sucked up a lot of time on a daily basis. Leaves a massive hole. Some families just don't seem to adjust or plan for the change which results in pressure on the kid. And visa versa (schache)

Just wonder whether the lad would be better off asserting himself and becoming more independent.

Thats not that uncommon across the AFL. Quite a few young guys have that sort of deal when they start. Petracca was one they did this with

I think most are fine with Schache being gone. Myself (and possibly a few others) are a bit irritated at what we traded him for - a minor pick upgrade, and Toby Wooller. If I'm right that Bailey and Starcevich would've still been available at 18 and 21, then we managed to, in just two years, turn pick 2 into a pick in the 40s.

I'm fine with what we have, but the more I look at it and think about it, I have serious question marks over our ceiling. I just don't know how we can, even in 4 or 5 years, turn this list into a contender. That said, I suppose making it up to mid-table for a year or two is better than we've had for a while, so I suppose that'll have to do for now.

No way Bailey would be there at 18. Tigers were keen from what I've heard... but I do agree with the rest of the post. We got bent over if talking about talent, but I think we broke even once the full picture had been painted.
