If I'm right that Bailey and Starcevich would've still been available at 18 and 21

SM said what I was under the understanding of as well - Bailey probably would not have slipped to 18. Gut feel on Starcevich would be that West Coast would've been the next most likely place for him to end up, at the pick after our original pick.

No way Bailey would be there at 18. Tigers were keen from what I've heard... but I do agree with the rest of the post. We got bent over if talking about talent, but I think we broke even once the full picture had been painted.

Maybe. It is tough to know, and it's made tougher by the fact that BigFooty rankings are very different to recruiters... No BF poster had Bailey or Starc in the top 20, and I'm pretty sure myself and everyone else on this board was certain we were going to hear Allen or Fogarty called out at 15... And then again at 18...

Ah well, gotta trust the guys in the room. Even if I'm pretty sure someone made a mistake on the Richmond pick trade (which is what really screwed us as part of the Schache trade). Drafting looks good, but Noble has a history of achieving his goals in the trade period, whatever he has to pay, or however little he has to accept. In the grand scheme of things, I suppose it's a small price to pay to get his football nous up here.

This team has amazing potential to be fast doesn't it. If they can build the tanks of these kids successfully, this is potentially a team that can simply blow other teams off the park late in games.

Went down to training for a bit yesterday.

As reported, Zorko and Skinner doing laps. Berry not doing competitive drills, but running.
Barrett seemed to be in a bit of discomfort at the end - ended the session doing laps.

Bit hard to id everyone as numbers on jumpers were a bit random (Hodge in 23 and Cameron in 48) and a lot of faces I didn't immediatly recognise.

Few different drills were happening - we focussed on the forwards for the most part. Some rusty skills - kicks flying over head or falling wide or short of leading forwards. McStay, Cameron, Rayner, Hipwood, Dawson, Bundy, Ballenden, and Wooller were in this group from memory.

Generally, the whole experience was a bit more up-tempo than previous years when I have been able to get down to training. Looked positive - also great just to see a name like Hodge running around in a Lions Guernsey!

Much to report from training last night? I was all set to go, until a mate turned up with his kids for a swim and a few tinnies in the pool.
Cascade Draught Cans. Thanks Dan Murphy's Home Delivery Service!
Shoulda known you'd be mates with the Dan Murphy's delivery guy. :p

Clugga wanted 5 year deal, club only wanted 3 year. He is in for the long haul, Rayner he is tearing the training track down Rd 1 certainty, his family and friends I speak to have all brought memberships or see about to, Witherden is the worry we need him to find a girl from Brissy who he cannot leave, at this stage not looking good. Family pulling him back to Geelong. Carb Lions 2019 Top 8 and beyond that higher up.

Dodongo will give Witherden Dodongo's second born daughter if it means Witherden stays.

I recall the players bagging him as his mother controls his money and he would have to go to her to get money for clothing etc.

Just wonder whether the lad would be better off asserting himself and becoming more independent.

Do you really wonder?

Just to clarify....my post was about Witherden
Yeah. But do you really wonder whether he'd be better off gaining independence?
I don't. Any young man, even one *alone with increased earning power, will learn and develop a hell of a lot more than one still intrinsically tied to mummy.
Cut the ****ing cord. Tell her to **** off and take charge of your own life. Ridiculous that a man, regardless of his age, that is earning a living yet should still be forced to ask his mother for money to buy clothes. Just farcical.

You know what at 18-19 is it the worst thing that he doesn’t have $150k in salary at his disposal? I’ve heard the same story for NBA and NFL player essentially getting and allowance out of their salary.

I say if Alex is happy with it why should we care. To then say he is tied to mummy really undersells a kid who moved away from home at 18 after breaking his leg and within 12 is favoured for the rising star.

I have no knowledge whether or not Alex actually has this arrangement, and if he does and he's happy, it's truly none of my business. But no way would I just be quiet and ignore it. It's a ****ing debilitating and unhealthy relationship. You can look at numerous examples and nothing is going to flourish if they're tied to a cage. Let them fly. Fear of failure is a disease.

Dude so angry over something that doesn’t affect you and as readily admit have NFI if in place. I’ve worked in banking for close to 20 years and this sort of arrangement is common with soldiers on deployment, FIFO workers and high income earners including athletes at a young age. One of my colleagues has managed the banking of a number of broncos players and the best player managers have the same thing set up.

To claim it’s debilitaing or unhealthy shows a complete lack of knowledge.

How?

By the same token doesn't your anger at my response represent lack of awareness or perhaps ineptitude in your own field?

I've got no anger at all, I'm bemused by your carry on. I tried to give some examples to help you along but you chose to ignore them. Have a good night champ.

Warned for insults

My carry on? This is the first time we've spoken and you called it quits upon my response.

I tried to give some examples to help you along but you chose to ignore them.
No you didn't, liar. What ****ing examples?

Have a good night champ.
Heh, yeah. You earned that.

You wonder if in any of these situations that the young man or woman hasn't ever been taken advantage of. Like parents of child stars who embezzle from their kids

Best example I've seen was a 19 year old who spent 12 months in East Timor with the army. Came back to find his girlfriend has take every cent he'd earnt. I think we all hear the bad stories but the vast majority of parents and the players agents really have the players best intentions at heart.
