I think paps needs to play wing or hff, he was really out of his weight class as a kpd or third tall.

He has great defensive run and reasonably good disposal. I think he is a type Fages would like, but he will be starting from a long way back.
I'm really struggling to see what his real strengths are apart from his run. Not good at the contested stuff and his disposal isn't actually that good in my view.

He reads the play quite well and in a Leppa team that was defensively unzipped consistently, was often busting his gut defending two players by himself - and quite often pulling it off.

With injury, he may well struggle to get enough opportunity to show his value, but I like what he offers.

His disposal efficiency is not up to AFL standard

Site l looked up had Marco in 2017 at 68.3%

From two games.... realistically you have to judge DE off career ave. He managed 76% in his 22 game season in 2015 and 77% in 2016 (over 6 games). This year was a write off.

I watch every game intently and always get nervous when he has ball in hand. Would love for it to improve due to his positive running ability. The surprising stat for me was Hugh McLuggage’s low efficiency rate for 2017 season

If you watched Hughs performance last year you'd see why his DE was poor. He'd often pass in anticipation as opposed to passing directly which makes it hard for his team mates to run on if they're not aware. Things definitely improved as the season went on but should improve a lot once again. He had a game with 100% DE last year as well from memory

Disappointing he is injured but better him than Beams/Zorko/Berry etc. I can't see him getting another contract, his defensive running is great but apart from that not a whole lot else. Too many players infront of him. Also can't see Hinge or Lyons get another contract
You're joking about Hinge and Lyons....I am happy to inform you that both are highly regarded, and expected to play senior footy for the Lions. They are highly skilled and play contested footy.Footy department was delighted with their progress last season.

Paparone on the other hand....

Love paparone and his loyalty to the club, but I can't remember many times where "f*cking paparone" was not said after he has done of his loopy handballs. Loved his 2014/15 seasons though, and remember him kicking three goals on debut against North. Actually having said that, I wonder if he could push his way into the forward line.

DE is a highly overrated stat. Most of the elite midfielders of the competition have a lower DE than Paparone.
His disposal efficiency is high because he always looks to take the easy sideways option.
When he tries to take the aggresive kick or kick under pressure he really struggles. That's not to say he can't improve that area of his game though.

Lyons signed a contract extension this off season. The club think he has something to offer.
