So which of these pubs will you be celebrating the 50th at?
For my 40th 10 years ago. Did my own decathlon
1. Swim at port beach
2. Shot of vodka at the beach
3. Brekky at left bank
4. Kicked a footy at Freo oval
5. Couple of beers at Norfolk in beer garden.
6. Kids had a play at the esplanade
7. Lunch at Clancy’s fish pub
8. Walk thru Freo
9. Freo markets
10. Drinks at little creatures.
Everything has a strict time plan & adherence, so people came to what they wanted. All in all over 80 people came to at least one event.

My 50th was just me the Mrs & Jnr. Pretty different!

Sounds like a Saturday to me (substitute kids with dog).

They tidied up His Lordship's for the America's Cup - used to have some good live music.

I remember Cleo's (and it's rep) but never went there; and only vaguely remember Sinbad's. I was only 17 during that 1985/86 World Sailing Champs (the year before the America's Cup) - back in the day when no one checked IDs, and there were always too many people packed into most of those places for anyone to care. The Newport, Sail and Norfolk were my regular hangouts, with The Orient chucked in occasionally. That had been the part-time, unofficial gay pub prior to the Cup.
Those two summers - and the never-ending party that was happening in Freo - those were my 'coming of age' I reckon.
And you're right Tarantella's is a hostel now - German Consulate is somewhere else around there. Leased from Notre Dame Uni no doubt.

Back on topic, perhaps?

Actually, kind of on topic... my daughter saw half the squad at The Pineapple Club just before Christmas, so they're putting in some time at some fine establishments during pre-season too.
I was playing in a band during the cup and leading up to it and we were working 3-4 nights a week, doing all the pubs you mention. 3 sets a night and plenty of free booze. Good times.
We played His Lordships on NYE 1987 and it was bedlam. The whole west end became gridlocked with people to the point it was scary. We ended up hemmed in on the stage, the place was so full and overflowing into the street there was literally nowhere to go between sets, we had to just sit on our amps and have a drink while we had a break as there was a wall of humanity jammed right up to the mic stands.
I left all my gear there and walked home at the end of the night as there was no chance of getting a car into Freo, the streets were like a riot.
When I walked back into town the next morning it was like walking through the aftermath of a war with people passed out in the streets and crap everywhere. I had a raging hangover and asked the barman at his Lordships for a hair of the dog and he informed me the entire pub had been drunk dry of every alcoholic beverage. They had nothing left.
I went to half a dozen pubs before I found a beer at the Norfolk.
Crazy times.

I remember those halcyon Days well. What band were you in then? May have seen that gig.

Daily. Mostly weed but I liked taking LSD too. Sometimes before we played. That was interesting.
I took anything anyone handed me then.

Sounds like a pretty wild and fun time

Whenever I've been on stage I've either been slightly tipsy for a bit of courage or completely straight.

I once took LSD with a girlfriend back in year 12. Was really fun but never felt an urge to try it again.

Cheeky bugger! :straining: I wondered who might be the one to do the maths and then announce to all. Lucky I have a Dec birthday, so I've only just turned 49 and still have pretty much a whole year to go. Besides, no one cares when your birthday is close to Christmas so I might be able to hit the Big One without too many people noticing. ;)

A few of the players were there on Wednesday. Tabs was running laps mid morning - he is looking pretty good. Bennell and a couple of others popped their heads out of the gym as well. The AFLW girls had an early morning training session on Wed - only saw them running briefly around 8:30ish. I was only watching for a total of about 2 minutes either side of a swim. But enough of this rubbish, back to the enlightening pub chatter.

I get there’s been no training but surely we have other threads for this sort of bants?

As soon as the first training report of the new year drops it'll be finished with. Still the holiday period so there's a bit of leeway.

We can do without the drug references though, family-friendly forum and all that.
