I think that was a bit of disinformation gaskin. I asked Tendai if they were doing the 2km and he just smiled and said 4 day break. They just had 2 weeks off, can't imagine they would need another break - I suspect they've all been told not to say about the 2km.

He didn't say "no", just avoided the question :)

Brandon Matera is posted on Instagram about going to gold coast. Could very well be a four day break.

Perhaps the 2km is tomorrow? Day off today to freshen up. Sean Darcy is at Bicton Baths (his insta) - would imagine if four days off they would have gone somewhere?

I'm guessing it's the 2km trial today, nobody at training.

Only 5 players out on the oval ( I thought the car park looked vacant ).
Kersten, Nyhuis, Switkowski, Dixon and Jones.
Kersten all alone doing a sort of zig zag running ... I guess rehabbing but don't know when he hurt himself on far side of the oval.
Jones I saw on Wednesday doing some strange walking style, towing about 200 kg on a sled harnessed to him. This was on the lawn area outside the gym.
I should add there were no coaches or support staff. I did see a support fella who usually runs with them and is fit as hell, walking to his car in top park area.
The players have probably done a 3 km run somewhere off site.

I'm thinking of going out there tomorrow, see if they have started S&C sessions. ( which is usually Sat morn)

Stephen Hill told us training watchers on the day of the last training session of 2017 that they were coming back on Saturday 6 January. He intimated that the 2k was going to be held then and that a couple of weeks after that they were going to have a 4 day break.

The off season is long and arduous, got to try and keep things interesting.
Fair enough, but you're not the sharpest tool in the shed. You praise Crowden in the first paragraph, and then scold him in the last. You actually aren't creative enough to come up with another players name.

Wtf is going on with Kersten? How unfit is he?

He is not unfit, literally. He must have some niggle.
Shane has got in a huge volume of running this pre, so this is puzzling but not concerning.
What are your thoughts on Kersten for this year Fred? Salim? All and sundry?

Personally I think he is a useful player. The question I have about him is whether he is better than that. Does he have another level to go to? Can he be used better in our evolving forward set up?

I think he has the talent but didn't prove to be a good fit for our forward structure last year.
In some games last year where he drifted down the ground, he looked a different player.
Change the mix or players around him and he may become a very effective player.
He isn't a KF nor 2nd tall forward but we need to keep him in range because he's such a reliable kick.
This year I reckon how we utilise Cam McCarthy will have a bearing on Shane's game.

I like that he doesn't need many touches to score, and has a fantastic kick. It means the opposition need to man him up pretty closely because they know he has the ability to hurt them. Also thought some of his leads are very clever.

If he can get to a point where he averages 2 goals per game, that will be fantastic.

Kinda feel like he could be one of those players that makes his team mates better.

Just needs to get past going missing in action for long periods.

Not surprisingly the better the team plays and delivers the ball into the forward line the better he will play/look.

You would hate to be a forward in the Freo team over the last two years. Rarely has the ball come in cleanly or with precision and yes the coach does have to take some blame for that (whilst we also all need to acknowledge we are rebuilding).

I expect the team to be better this year (having some players on the track is a nice change) and both McCarthy and Kersten's performances to be better this year.

I certainly hope Kersten hits his straps this year because other than perhaps Walters he is the one you would like to be having a shot on goal. Think of this and then imagine Mayne (last few years), Cox and B Hill shooting on goal. Get the ball in his hands.

No S&C session this morning.
There is a womens game on .
There was probably 300 spectators there watching the game and it highlighted how poorly they have catered for crowds.
It would most likely be adequate if they opened up the southern side and get around to grassing the western end banks.

Haha, treading carefully there.

Almost no posters on here have him in their best 22, which is surprising. In reality there is a fair chance he is in for round 1. The key point being made here is that the delivery and the game plan are massive influences on the success of our forward line. More so perhaps than the individual components of the forward line itself.

In terms of the individual components I think we have a number of options, but acknowledge that we still have the missing ingredient of a dominant KPF.

Walters Taberner Langdon
Matera McCarthy Kersten

OR

Walters Taberner Ballantyne
Matera McCarthy Darcy/Dandilands/Jones

OR

Walters Darcy Ballantyne
Matera McCarthy Brayshaw/Cerra/Crowden/Switkowski/Grey

OR

Other.

Fred's point about him doing okay up the ground is interesting. I didn't particularly notice it tbh, and I don't think he has realistic midfield capacity, which is a pity.

Very keen to see reports on the composition of our forward line and how the transition/delivery works in terms of feeding them. This is where we have an opportunity to improve this season. It is critical.

If you knew the context of that post you would realise I was only keeping in line with the original that I copied from! So if anything I'm not creative enough to come up with my own material, not just new players names.

Not trolling, just having a bit of fun.

Fred Ziffel salim malik sherrif gaskin and any other regulars at training.

Just wondering what you think of the surface at Cockburn?

With no training yesterday I went for a walk around the oval with my old man and he made the comment that the grass is couch (same as the grass on my front lawn) and we both thought the surface was quite firm. It seemed very different to the surface at Subi or what I remember of Freo so just wondering what you guys think of it?

The grass looked awful when I went down. That was before Chrissie though.
