Wow...not much feedback in here. Our board would have had at least 5-6 pages. Was it in Brisbane?

Was at South Pine - reasonable crosswind.
Suns won by 26 points.
Suns had less scoring shots but the on ball pressure caused many Lions misses.
It was a scrappy affair and our players seemed to want to play it in close as we were undersized- particularly forward. Lions were better when they were able to switch into open space and get it out of congestion.
My best were Lonergan, Willis, Barlow and Nicholls (he had Archie Smith totally frustrated).
Our players were thrown around a lot position wise and extra Academy players were introduced after half time - when we already had a comfortable lead.
No-one scored more than 2 goals - 10 separate goalscorers.
Good result given Lions are reigning NEAFL premiers.

Good to see Nicholls still playing well, good news if Witts ends up going down with an injury or needing a break we have a solid back up ready to go.

The 2nds will be really great this year. Could be going deep in finals if the fitness around the group is kept up.

Thanks, appreciated. Did Lemmens play? I assume no Wright, Ah Chee.

Lemmens played limited time - didn't stand out. No Ah Chee , No Wright.
Leslie acted as backline coaching assistant - not sure why he wasn't playing - didn't look to be carrying an injury.
Spencer also absent as the travelling emergency. So big dent in backline strength especially when Jaska didn't reappear after halftime either..

Thanks Sunraysia -couldn’t find out anything on searching the net so great to have your input.

Would be nice to know how these boys are doing throughout the season :)

I found this on the AFL website....

GOLD COAST
State league affiliate: Gold Coast (NEAFL)
This weekend: Brisbane v Gold Coast - Saturday, March 31, 1.30pm, South Pine Sports Complex

Second-year midfielder Will Brodie was outstanding in a run-with role on Tom Bell, spending the opening three quarters on the experienced Lion and curbing his influence significantly.

Ruckman Tom Nicholls continued his push for a senior recall with a strong performance in the Suns' 25-point win, while midfielders Charlie Ballard and Jesse Lonergan, rookie Mackenzie Willis and veteran Matt Rosa were also among the Suns' best players.

Former Crow Harrison Wigg also played his first game since crossing from West Lakes at the end of last season, making an encouraging return from ankle surgery.

Grooming Brodie as a tagger. I like it.

Ballard keeps getting good mentions, if he can string some more good performances together in the Neafl, I would love to see him come in.. he seems like a match up nightmare for any opponents.

Tagging Bell sounds a bit strange. The bloke’s a spud.
Bell is big bodied so a good match bodywise for the AFL players Brodie might have to match up on.
At the game I thought Brodie was playing at half back mostly.... but he did have some time the middle and got some clearances.

Definitely, but besides Holman, Barlow I don't see many big bodies to tag e.g. Fyfe. I think it's just part of his education. He will be great in 1-2 years, Josh Kennedy type.

Blokes like Scott Selwood, Jordan Lewis, Prestia, Coniglio, Matthew Boyd, Bryce Gibbs all put time into learning from the best to fast track their education and development and I'm sure Brodie would jump at the chance to perform this role if it can get him a game sooner.

GCS report:

The NEAFL season is fast approaching and Gold Coast’s reserves side finalised their preparations with a 25-point win over the Brisbane Lions.

The SUNS travelled to the South Pine Sports Complex for their third practice match, coming away with a 12.6 (78) to 6.17 (53) victory.

Nick Malceski, Gold Coast’s NEAFL Coach, was impressed by his team’s effort and how they applied themselves in the contest.

“I was pleased with how the lads played this week. There were specific focus areas for each line and I believe they executed them,” Malceski told goldcoastfc.com.au.

“From a team perspective we kept it simple, focused on our contest and team defence.

“It was pleasing to have won the tackle count too.”

A number of Gold Coast players again pressed their case for selection, with midfielders Charlie Ballard, Jesse Lonergan and Michael Barlow among the best.

Second year SUN Will Brodie played in an unfamiliar run-with role, but applied himself well to shut Brisbane’s Tom Bell out of the game.

“We gave him a tagging role on Bell, a different role to what he generally plays but did a super job.”

“He kept him to eight touches up until 15minutes into the 3rd quarter where we thought he did a good job, so we gave him another role.”

Saturday’s game also marked the return of Harrison Wigg, who joined the SUNS during last year’s trade period.

The half back suffered a fractured ankle in December, but has now completed his rehab and will work his way towards full match fitness.

“It was great to see him back out there with the boys. He played down back, showed good leadership, defended ok and got his hands on the ball.

“Played 70-odd minutes and will look to build on that heading into this week against Aspley.”

Gold Coast will take on Aspley in Round One of the NEAFL season this Saturday.

The match will be played at Graham Road at 1.30pm.

I wonder if the WA boys (Schoenfeld, Ah Chee, Powell) who are not playing in 1sts will fly over to WA on Saturday night to spend time training with the team and catch up with family and then come back for the next week's NEAFL game
