With our monumental injury mishaps this year, I think it's fair to say we are all looking forward to seeing whether the club can reduce the number of injuries in 2019. One of the big issue is whether we can start the ball rolling early to get the operations in on those applicable for operations. This preseason more than ever, while we still have genuine cattle to play with, we need this preseason to count!

This thread is dedicated to the tracking of players who have been notified to the media/fans to having surgeries done during the preseason period (preseason effectively counts from round 22, 2018). Will be interesting to see if all the players who undergo surgeries will all start in Round 1, 2019. Will be updating news of more player surgeries through this post, and anyone with extra news please add details through this thread.

The "gone-through-the-knife" players:
1. Walker (foot/plantar fasciitis) - mid August
2. Hartigan (knees) - mid August
3. Doedee (collarbone) - mid-late August
4. BCrouch (groin/osteitis pubis) - mid June
5. Talia (thumb) - mid-late August
6. O'Brien (shoulder) - mid-late June
7. Otten (Achilles) - late August

Bring on the plaster casts, slings and moon boots!

Did Tex have surgery?
Yes it's been reported by the club in the last few days. Only surgeries confirmed I will update it in the original post. The aim is to track these players over the preseason and to see of their progress. If they're fit, firing and maintaining their standards for the first few rounds(in 2019), then it would be a tick to the AFC. If injuries recur then we can guess what will happen on BF..

We didn't have mishaps. What we had was a playing group devastated by thier lack of effort in the granny

they took it hard.

The majority of the playing group were driven by the passing of phil Walsh and are dealing with something noone else has or could imagine. What drove them to play formula one footy last year also broke them.

Many came back from the break out of shape recovering from what hit them hard. The injuries phsycholigcal in nature. The shortened pre season adding to the issue.

Many also overlook the collision injuries and injuries to walker and seedsman that have plagued them thier careers.

Those around when Walsh went are emotionally fragile. And will be.

We live with something and so many ignorant of the fact

Grief never leaves especially if you're still committed to that person.

Such an ignorant ego scratching op

Even if ignoring the op claims they are an expert in mental health

Mate, can you please summarise this in plain English?

From the AFC website:

Crows defender Daniel Talia has undergone reconstructive surgery on his left thumb.

The Club made the decision once Talia was ruled out of Saturday night’s match against Carlton due to a leg injury, which has also troubled him in recent weeks.

Crows Head of Football Brett Burton said the surgery would have no impact on Talia's pre-season program.

“Daniel has had issues with his thumb for much of the season and managed the injury accordingly,” he said.

“It makes sense to have the procedure done now so his pre-season is not affected.”

Otten updated with a recent Achilles procedure. Gov also had arthroscopic procedure to his ankles, in case anyone cares.

Tomorrow marks the official start of our 2019 pre-season with the 1st to 4th year players returning.

Last year it would be fair to say that we never had a pristine pre-season, possibly the pre-season from hell perhaps?
The good news is that there will be many more “Open” training sessions this year ;). Is anyone wandering down tomorrow morning to check out the latest inductees into the Stiffy Johncock Training Institute (FatClub)?

My pre-season observations so far

The Good News
Brouch, Tex, DT, The Dude, Otto, ROB and Harto finished last season early and following surgery “should” be ready to go at the start of the pre-season.
No longterm injuries (or at least none we know about).
No reported “incidents” by the Boys (so far).

The Bad News
Were all the issues from the 2018 season resolved before they went on leave? One key to a perfect pre-season is for players to be in the right state of mind when they go on holiday so they come back refreshed and have maintained the required level of fitness.
Andrew McPherson......WTF? After more than six months of groin conditioning, he finally fronted in the SANFL late last season. He looked great but subsequently blew a hammy and pulled up stumps for the season. Nothing has been reported since then on the AFC website but the AFL website has reported that he will have a “modified” program before christmas due to groin soreness. Does anyone have any other details?

So....feel free to put all your pre-season training reports in this thread.

I said similar on the other thread

Happy minds fit bodies

You dont need to manufacture fun or happiness. provide the competition and opportunity to be the best and the rest will take care of itself. Make it a fun place again

I was wondering if this was covered anywhere (which you have in the OP) but apparently they've knocked down a number of stands (live in Melb so I haven't seen first hand) so at least it should be a lot more possible to view training sessions these days.

Hopefully that leads to a more enjoyable off-season for all of us here!
