Ultimately the right outcome.

Doesn't restore my faith much in the compo process though as I feel this is largely based on a "formula" of the AFL punishing the Crows for trying to be dodgy pricks..

Excited we get a choice out of two of the fantastic five!
And looking after Brisbane. Finally though, some good news for us.

Sorry guys Math's isn't one my strong suits.
Pick 2 is worth that allotted 2517 pts. If North or us bid on Campbell how do Sydney exactly get him anyways.
They must go into a huge deficit & I know there's a 20% disc. there somewhere, but it looks epic either way.
Then they've got that other kid to pick as an Academy pick too.
also got to count if North bid do they really want him?
I feel if Campbell is bid on @ #2, the Swans may let him slide & pick McDonald.

Adelaide will take McDonald. Either with pick 1 or pick 2 after they bid on JUH. Then North will either bid on JUH (if Adelaide haven't already). If McDonald is still there (because Adelaide take Thilthorpe) then North won't pass him up. I don't expect North to bid for Campbell, but if they do then they will be holding pick 3 (2234 points) and Swans will only have to match minus the discount (20% I believe it is now).

Either way there's no way McDonald slips past two clubs to be an option for Sydney.

Just started paying interest whats the thoughts on the strategy this year? Is it generally considered we will take someone at 4, maybe try and get another 1st rounder to go with that? What was with Downie is he likely 1st round or will we be able to get in 2 high draft picks before a bid for him? We get some excellent prospect last year with Finn and Will hoping we score a for/ruck or excellent KPD and a gun mid.

Any thoughts appreciated guys.

Downie was projected to be a mid/late first rounder. He could have moved right up the order had the TAC season gone ahead, given he was made captain, and was going to be playing as an inside midfielder. Had he proven himself as a capable midfielder he'd have shown that he is able to play inside/outside mid, wing and HBF add that to his quality kicking ability (55m no worries) and likes a long goal - I think he'd have been looked at as a potential top 10.

But he never got the chance to give it a go, so thankfully for us his perceived value has been pushed out into the 20's.

Do we really think north or Sydney won’t go best available? Can’t see it personally - all have list gaps. If Hollands knee is fine he’s probably a lower risk pick than say Thilthorpe (given history of tall picks being busts).

Swans are double dipping. Why wouldn't they go a tall and small?
North would be borderline legligent if they bypass a tall with Brown leaving. Especially if McDonald is there at 2.

Just a shame that that will come AFTER Sydney have drafted a top 5 player on top of that :(
Might actually work against them as they have 2 academy picks that are highly rated. They may not be able to afford both and have to choose between them.

Because why pass up the best talent available? Isn’t that drafting 101 for early picks?

Swans are killing it - why would they compromise? Add Hollands to Campbell and Stephens from last year and that’s a potential a grade midfield.

Re North, same argument could be made for us - ie we should select a tall given our tall stocks - but pretty sure you’re not advocating thiltrope or DGB over Hollands?

If Thilthorpe is there, we will snap him up that fast.

Reality is, how else are you gonna get an elite tall?? FFS Cameron is worth 3 firsts at the age of 28!
