Perhaps not, but there's no chance that Scully doesn't know his own 2km PB.

*I agree by the way, I'd back a fit Smitty over 2km

He probably does know, I guess the main point I was getting at is that it's difficult to judge it in isolation.

I don't think Scully winning would be a foregone conclusion because 2km isn't a long distance endurance wise. If you plot it on a graph as speed over distance it's a bit easier to understand.

Does anyone else see our lack of a prime small-forward a large obstacle to winning a premiership in 2020?

(Poppy's form pending)

Only insofar as forward pressure being important. It depends on whether we can replicate that pressure without finding one.

We did okay at it last year.

I'm looking to see if Nash can develop into that punishing pressure player forward of centre.

Impressive. I agree

But before saying future captain want to see how he goes kicking the footy and stuff
Of course, but I'm not calling future captain at this point. Just pointing out that he's showing some mature leadership characteristics very early, and that it's a reasonably good sign of him being future captain material. There's a lot of water to go under the bridge before it's a genuine possibility - showing he can play AFL level footy is definitely one of them.

The Axeman cometh.

Just back from training and it was hot, dam hot!

Spotted at training ace training reporter "The Axeman" so gird your loins and look out for his report. He is still there so will be a little while.

I was going to say that Sam Mitchell was doing the presser but that is old news.
Did hear him say he has more responsibility this year and is running todays session.

Several tv crews including Channel 10 covered the training.

Impey - just ran laps
Mitchell Lewis
Michington - on ya bike
Howe - running
Mitchell
Jaeger O.
CJ - ran laps
On light duties.
Max Bailey ran some specialised training with Patton and Timmy O in around the ground ball ups, working on holding their position etc.
This new possible player Darcy looks the goods, looked right at home in the match sims and has the very big added bonus he is fit!
I will leave The Axeman to describe the incident that got the crowd talking (well, if 3 is a crowd, then....) and that was during the match sim, the tackle laid on Mitchell. Hmmm, looks slower than I remember him, but I will let The Axeman explain.
Go Hawks. did I mention it was hot out there!

Untried and injury-plagued at this stage - we can't pencil him in yet.

Compare our current line-up to the one that brought us so much dominance; Cyril and Poppy were elite and never allowed the ball outside our forward 50. The successful teams around us: Richmond, West Coast, etc with a fleet of small crumbers & highly skilled goal-kickers.

The small forward/s is vital to winning premierships in the modern era. I just have doubts over our selection of small forwards available (Poppy, Hanrahan, Minchington). I think we'll need significant improvement/contribution from these guys to assist Wingard to allow us to be a premiership contender. (premiership contender is the key word here).

Agree totally

Get excited, Hawks fans! :D

yep it is without doubt our major, major weakness. Something like a Sizzle and we more than sizzle !!! I would even suggest we could win it.

This is why Ollie is such a huge let down, not suggesting for one second he is a Rioli, but our lack of Xfactor is massive. MASSIVE !!
