Ripping it up. Looks like a half forward switching into the mids I'd say.
Second in time trial this week.
Yeah, saw the vid on Twitter. Which prompted me to ask here.

Keays was a mid as a junior (AA U18), but couldn’t crack our midfield rotation, so the staff tried to reinvent him as a half forward.

He would dominate the NEAFL as an inside mid, then as a small forward, but always struggled for a consistent run at AFL level.

Genuinely hoping he gets a shot with you guys.

Corey Lyons getting retained and Keays moved on surprised me? Is Corey close to getting a call up? Seems to be lacking hurt factor even though he can find the pill plenty from what I've seen watching the NEAFL

yeah I read that, but they said at the run before Christmas it was a PB and again in this weeks. Must be sub 6minutes. That's getting quick.
I agree, he must be running sub 6 minutes... He doesn't appear to be doing it tough, must have a good technique.

Corey is a better inside mid than Keays. I believe that’s what it came down to.

My view is we kept Corey as depth for one more year while our younger mids continue to develop. He’s more ready to go than Ely Smith and Deven Robertson.

Nor did we see much depth in the rookie draft, to give a genuine rookie a chance after Richmond and Essendon drafted our kids in the National Draft.

Re-signing Allen Christensen, trading for Ah Chee and drafting Keidean Coleman, basically filled our quota of flankers and small forwards. All are faster, more agile and balanced than Keays.

The problem was all our tall forwards would lead up to the ball but our defenders wouldn't kick it to them. Eventually when we did get a F50 entry, the only ones in there would be Betts or Murphy who would be up against 3 defenders, and trying to take MOTY

You missed the part where all our forwards would play from behind, hoping for a loose ball out the back. End result being an uncontested mark to their direct opponent.

I thought it was interesting that the Lions dropped Keays but then brought in CEY, who really doesn't offer much other than clearances

He did 6:06 minutes in the 2km time trial at the AFL Draft Combine. But I haven't seen any 2020 numbers.
I think most clubs keep that pretty top secret, although I'd guess most clubs would know what others are running with all the player movement.

What would be interesting is if all the players ran the same track and then players were ranked

Would have to be same weather conditions to have any meaning. Imagine the guy who came last; The slowest player in the AFL. I don't think the clubs or Players Association would allow it.... But it would be interesting.

CEY, if fit, offers a big body to bash in to Cripps when we play Carlton. He offers something different to Keays. Keays was really competing with JLyons, CLyons and Mathieson. We don't have a ready to go inside enforcer. We're hopping Ely Smith will be that player going forward, but he's still a work in progress. JBerry can play a good run with role with the likes of Fyfe and other big mids, but he, along with all our other mids, struggled against Cripps.

He will so well there for as long as he is picked. I'd bet he'll get 35 goals injury permitting
Going to be a very top heavy forward line with JJ, Hawkins and Ratugolea all in the same team.

I see JJ as a back up option if either Hawkins or Ratugelea gets injured. Will be interesting to see if they try to play all 3 in the same side.

I wouldn't be banking on CEY to do any good on Cripps. In his 8 years at the Crows, he's not done it yet.

The last 3 games against the Crows with CEY in the team, Cripps has averaged 31 touches and 2 shots at goal, while Fyfe had 32 and 25 +1 goal

JJ is ahead of Ratu I'd think, unless they are starting arebuild. A much better forward IMO

not sure about that, Tex's eyes light up when Milera is delivering the pill.
No disagreement with me, which is why Milera needs to play HBF/on ball, rather than being wasted up forward again.

Fog is very, very good in this category too.

Laird, Talia and Sloane should be banned from kicking the ball inside 50 (Sloane can still have a running shot at goal) as their passes put low flying aircraft in danger.
Brad Crouch last year wasted much more inside 50 than Sloane.

Hoping this year Brouch actually looks where he is kicking the ball as will then become an elite player... as no issue him finding the ball.

Pretty embarrassing from Walker and his mates making prank calls to Kane.
I haven't received any prank calls...

He's nice depth at worst though and Brisbane is a bit as the same as us in that their 3 leading contested possession winners last year were Neale, Lyons and Zorko, all sub 185cm, 80-85kgs midfielders, so he's a point of difference there as well. Even a younger guy who could get more midfield time like McCluggage is in that same size range.

The combination of slow D50 ball movement and wide leading patterns because our F50 was so congested were horrible this year.

I'd be interested in looking at round-by-round F50 mark location stats comparing us to other teams.

Forgot about him. Add him to the do-not-kick-inside-50 list.

Knight is another bad one. These days, his kicks to the forwards always seem to scrub along the ground.
