He's nice depth at worst though and Brisbane is a bit as the same as us in that their 3 leading contested possession winners last year were Neale, Lyons and Zorko, all sub 185cm, 80-85kgs midfielders, so he's a point of difference there as well. Even a younger guy who could get more midfield time like McCluggage is in that same size range.
Jarrod Berry is the future>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CEY

To me he is depth, not necessarily 'nice depth'. For Brisbane's sake, I hope CEY doesn't keep guys like Ely Smith, Mathieson and Jarrod Berry out of the team

And we'll take Connor McFadyen and Tom Berry off their hands if they can't find a spot in a year or two.

Forgot about him. Add him to the do-not-kick-inside-50 list.

Knight is another bad one. These days, his kicks to the forwards always seem to scrub along the ground.
Knight copying Richmond's chaos balls....

I think most clubs keep that pretty top secret, although I'd guess most clubs would know what others are running with all the player movement.

What would be interesting is if all the players ran the same track and then players were ranked
Not really sure how you keep the times top secret when you do the run on a public track.

It’s a possibility if Nicks values contested ball and holding up opposition/forcing turnovers between the arcs. Could go without a chop out ruck/key forward role and achieve similar though. I don’t think we’ll carry him for as long as in the past if he’s having a bad patch. No point having mid range performers at his age given where we’re at. Will want to be in pretty good nick I reckon. But if Mackay is selected round 1, then we’re probably looking at more of the same and Lynch will be safe all year regardless of form.

Season 2019 saw him use some Golden Tickets he had a period where he was ordinary, hopefully a new look AFC has more pressure on "established" players serving up poo for any more than 3-4 weeks as our youngsters never seem to be given any luxury and are out incredibly quickly.

Other than missing games through injury and illness Lynch's 2019 season was way, way better than you're giving him credit for and compared with other seasoned performers better than most. I know it's a BF thing on this board to find fault with Lynch but it's not backed up by his lack of performance.

Yes perhaps I am being harsh on him but on his return from injury he was well below average probably until our last game and he lacked depth in his kick or any great weapon - not that he was alone there - hopefully 2020 we see him back to his damaging self!

2nd in the AFL for score involvements per game only Jeremy Cameron ahead of him in 2019....our next best was Brad Crouch who came in at 37th......reckon a closer look at our other forwards might be in order before we start looking at Tommy.

Milera and Kelly both didn’t run. That was confirmed in Terry’s commentary.
I couldn’t see Knight either.
those 3 are normally fighting it out in top 3 (top 5 now that Jones & McHenry are here).
So add those 3 to the top 8 from the other day and that’s a pretty strong top 10.

Any idea as to why Milera didn't run? Hope it isn't the knee tendonitis playing up again

I am hoping that Knight falls into that confused by directions group and a ( hopefully) simple instruction helps him regain focus

I can see this being a make or break year for Knight

Milera adds something to the side, Knight doesn't.

Kelly had a great season but he's replaceable.

Plus CEY would hardly be responsible for Cripps possession tally the last 3 times we’ve played Carlton.

There were 2-3 weeks a couple of times over the last couple of years where he burned ball like crazy, fumbled and had no impact at all. He’s a player that needs to be fully fit and our coach’s penchant for getting their best 22 into the side while still hampered or underdone has resulted in a few players being carried. Tex, Lynch, Sloane, we’ll carry them all to keep continuity going. Setting aside that I don’t value the Lynch role and wouldn’t play him whilst playing a relief ruck out of the forward line, if Nicks isn’t a disciple of continuity and doesn’t rush players back out of panic, then Lynch’s worst patches will be eliminated anyway.

Highest scoring forward line in 2017, so let’s not look at anything at all. Just keep the same guys together in the same format. I remember this argument with Thommo in his last couple of years. Most clearances, most tackles, who can replace that? It’s blinkered and ignores the reality that Aussie Rules isn’t just an addition of 22 players stats each week to get a winner. Pressure across the ground is critical, especially in the forward 50. Repeat entries are super important. If you’re going to play Tex, Lynch, relief ruckman and Fog, you’re going to continue to open yourself up to unpressured counter attack out of our 50. Fog at least has enthusiasm to get to players though.

Lynch is excellent at the Lynch role, but when you’ve got a massive problem with applying pressure in the forward half that leads to opposition scoring, you have to reassess your structure. Lynch’s role is the first that I look at in terms of asking whether it needs to provide more defensive action and ability to win contested ball when we’re struggling to provide clean ball out of the middle and off half back to him and our other forwards.

If the answer to that is no, then I look at the the 2nd ruck role and piss that off. I’d also look at the use of our first ruck, not send them to every stoppage whilst they’re on the ground. The forward 30 would be off-limits. Used to drive me insane watching Sauce ruck the goal square while JJ stood idle 5 metres away as if he’s going to be involved in a ground ball contest. One of those guys needed to be useful by blocking space 30m+ away in a defensive set up. And I guess it needed to be JJ because we know that Sauce thrived on huge workloads. So if Sauce could jog forward to make that stoppage then JJ sure as shit could have jogged to get into a defensive position.

Can Tom Lynch play the Shaun Grigg role as a mobile relief ruckman? At 1.92m he is 2cm taller.

Just hope we don't go too tall up forward this year.

I think the solution would be to have ROB at all CBAs, and then get Tex to do some work in the F50. Otherwise, we could go really innovative and have Gaucc as our ruck in the F50 and just have him shark the taps with the occasional jump off the long run (Trent Ormond-Allen style).

For me the tall fowards are Fog, Tex and Lynch and try to eliminate the need for a 2nd ruck unless Frampton/Berg start to demand selection

I've made my opinion on Tom Lynch crystal clear, you might not agree but nothing you say will change that at this point. Nothing. Get back to me when his performances don't meet the expectation of his automatic selection or someone appears on the horizon that can be as effective as the connector and setting up scoring opportunities for team Adelaide. Currently he's the 2nd forward selected on long term performance.

Just out of interest, who is 1st? Lynch's consistency and long term performance is miles ahead of Walker's. Betts & JJ are gone, I sincerely doubt you're talking about Murphy, Fogarty is promising but doesn't have a "long term performance" record yet. I'm struggling to think who would be picked ahead of Lynch?
