That brief top 4 was misleading.

We had played Freo, Gold Coast, Saints, injury ravaged Port and Richmond and scraped in against Melbourne. We lost at home to Hawks, Cats, West Coast and a shocking away loss to North.

We’ve turned over a lot of experience and have an untried depth.

Meanwhile sides below us in Saints and Melbourne recruited well, who did we recruit?
Nicks and Kelly

St Kilda recruited OK, not well. Hill is the bic one.

Melbourne are all between the ears, and May is injured again.

They also won slightly more games than us combined last year.

I don't think we will be any worse off this year in terms of results. Decent setups and coaching will see us improve.

No worse off has us 12th again. Coaching and set ups will see an improvement, but again we have an untried list and we don't know how they will perform.

Gees, I would have thought Hill, Jones and Howard are 3 pretty handy ins and Butler played some good footy for Richmond and they are a hard side to get into.

We talk about Nicks giving us a lift but they have Ratten.

Melbourne is between the ears. But they have had a decent preseason this year, Lever is fit and Langdon and Tomlinson are pretty hand recruits.

We recruited Frampton.

Do we want a fantastic run with injuries and finish 9th, an average injury run and finish 12th or a shocking injury run and finish 17/18th?

Hopefully few injuries to the best of our Kids.

Zac Jones ?? Please. Howard got lapped in their time trial, hardly looks in good shape and Butler is a handy player nothing more.

And Ratten ?? Let's see how that works out for them.

As for Melbourne, if you're banking on Lever being fit then there's your first problem. Tomlinson is a great get and Langdon isn't a bad young player at all. Their issue is Oliver..... he's it for their inside midfielders. They didn't address their biggest issue.

Again they were a fair way off us last year, they need more than recruits to go past us.

I am happy for our list to be tested in 2020, if that results in finishing 9th and the kids have shown something, great. But if we get to 9th on the back of playing all our remaining oldies and we haven't tested our kids again then its a wasted year and stupid planning.

But a finish 12th and lower is not going to hurt us in the long run, as long as we've played the kids. More quality draft picks and if Brad goes, an excellent compo pick.

We've really only got 1 remaining oldie who shouldn't be in the 22.

We have differing opinions of Zac Jones, they are missing leg speed and breaking the lines and he provides it. Plus Hill is a big get.

When was that time trial? How is Howard tracking now? Who would you prefer Howard or Frampton? Butler is a handy player, which handy players did we pick up?

Any suggestion Lever isnt fit at the moment? We have Doedee coming back from a knee with similar injury track record and he is considered Keath's replacement who we apparently wont miss. So Tomlinson and Langdon are good players, better than Frampton. We just beat Melbourne, not too far off us.

To be THAT far behind tells me he's miles off AFL fitness, and potentially a reason why Port let him go.

Lever had issues all last year with his knee, I don't think that'll go away. Plus they have Goodwin as coach who I really don't rate.

You'd have to think Melbourne are regretting the May deal when they could have had Ben King at pick 6! What a disastrous trade

Hartigan undergoes surgery

Get well later. Much, much later.
Don't be too harsh, it's only a two week injury. We should see him back soon. Let me see if I can find the link...

“Very similar with Cam, again he will train the main training session and we expect him to play.” -

“At this point in time, we feel Cam hasn’t improved to the level we need for him to return so he’ll miss the remainder of the season as we continue to increase training loads slowly.”

Oops, wrong link

Rd12: "We will re-evaluate his progress at the end of the week and aim to make training progressions that would see him prepare for the Geelong game after the bye."

Rd18: “Tom has been close to returning for a couple of weeks now, but he’s now completely confident on that calf,” Crows Head of Football Brett Burton said.

Nope, I can't find it

By the end of the season, Howard will be in the discussion for recruit of the year.

Ratten is a very handy coach, and should never have been sacked by Carlton.
Well I'm glad he did because it gave us the comedy of the Blues over the past few seasons, but the point stands.

Oliver, Viney, Jones are all inside mids, and probably their best 3 mids too

The only oldies left are Mackay and Gibbs. Neither will be first 22. Maybe Gibbs if hes in form.

G’day again guys.

Just checking up if there are any reports on Ben Keays?

Have you been doing any match simulation?

Glad you guys asked the question first. I was wondering where you guys saw yourselves heading in to the year.

Top 6? Middle 6? Bottom 6?

You’ve got a good draft hand next year, so was curious what your perceived list needs are. KPF and outside run?

Was wondering if you’d make a play for Jackson Hatley. Hand GWS back their first round pick for Hately.

Mutineer, agree that JBerry will be our big inside mid. I believe he was seriously affected by glandular fever last preseason, and took most of the year to recover.

TBerry still look a way off so far this preseason.

I’ve been to 5 preseason sessions so far, so have a little perspective on how we’re looking.

We played a short practice match yesterday, two 10 minute quarters/halves (what ever you want to call them).

McFadyen played for the second string team, and really hunted the first team players, laying 3 great tackles and getting holding the ball each time.

Middle 6 IMO.

Fair chance Hately will be a trade consideration with 2x 1st & 2nd rounders.

Those Viney and Brasyshaw blokes go alright at playing inside mid too...
