a lot of people keep saying we'll finish bottom 6 because we've lost so many players. lets see who we've lost.

betts: he's finished.
jacobs: same thing.
jenkins: not in best 18. fog is in front.
greenwood. in and out the side. again, not best 18.
keath: the only real loss.
douglas: retired
otten: retired and has't been in best 18 for years.

I just dont get it. where are these huge losses?

0.0. Even Keath not much of a loss given we have Doedee rolling back and a pick 6 who should now get 10-12 games.

No one is saying we’re going to get regular floggings. More leaning towards it’ll be tough to make the 8 this year. Too many youngsters coming in or not-yet-established players, mean there will likely be a big amount of inconsistency week by week.

Your argument is about us having the players who could replace an out-of-form unit that was 2019 team. The aim though to make the 8, we need to get the current team playing consistent elite footy that was the 2017 team.

BTW agree with Keath. He is a gun and the one I really would have liked to retain. He is a great pick up for the Bulldogs but would have been an even better pick up for a contending team. If Richmond knew that Rance was going they should have moved heaven and earth for Keath.

Just my view.
Bulldogs will be contending

I reckon we'll finish 12th or 13th.

I'm expecting a burst out of the gates followed by a prolonged regression on account of younger guys tiring out/getting injured over the season.
recon we'll be 6-10, but would rather watch a young team that tries and finish 12th than a half arsed effort and finish 10th

Yup reckon they are the real smoky for 2020...

I just want us to have a fast free flowing game style and for one of Jones/McHenry/HImm/Gooch to take their games to serious new levels.

Milera also the big one for me. No more teasing, he needs to be pressing for AA selection this year.
Milera is clearly the one he has had a good apprenticeship which the others you have mentioned will have to go through before taking their games up to the likes of dusty pendles bonts Mitchell Selwood danger shuey hemple kennedy kelly, hopefully milera can mix it with those guys this year

Fog is the other who may have developed enough but may take longer as he will have gorillas taking him on

Add Ellis-Yolmen to that list too.

Whilst our top tier talent is still quite good, with the players exiting we lose a lot of depth and if a few injuries happen during the season I can see why some are predicting bottom 6 and huge loses.
At the same time we will be exposing our younger player which is only going to benefit this footy club in the long run and with a bit of luck injury wise there is no reason why the Crows can’t play finals in 2020.

Every year there are sliders and teams that rise. Having said that these are teams that I would consider locks for the 8:

Richmond
GWS
Geelong- always make it and their downhill slide will be at least another year away
West Coast
Collingwood
Thats 5 spots, 3 to go

Teams with a very good chance to make it:

Bulldogs
Brisbane

That leaves one spot which I think will go to the Hawks.

Everything would have to go right for us to make it, Nicks turns out to be a great coach, senior players reverse their decline, players down on form improve, kids are given a chance and come on, good run with injuries and teams like Port, Saints, Carlton, Hawks, Essendon don’t improve enough to make it.

The issue isn't huge losses. It's that we aren't replacing that output with immediately better players. At best, their replacements will be talented juniors which always come with a bit of inconsistency.

So our squad isn't necessarily worse, but it's not better either, and we already finished 12th. With other teams around us improving, maybe we have a bad injury run, it's not hard to imagine us finishing bottom 6

Different players though. Keath is taller & can play on a key forward.

Before Doedee's injury, we were playing Talia, Keath & Doedee as the 3rd tall. Now we need to play someone else as our 2nd tall. Imo, given we are in rebuild mode it should not be Hartigan, who should be experienced cover for Talia, but the youngster who puts their hand up.

Hard to disagree with anything Lee Gaskin has written in this article, the time is now for all of Jordan Gallucci, Myles Poholke, Elliot Himmelberg and Ben Davis.....All bar Davis are out of contract at season's end.

Why this season is make or break for Crows' class of 2016
It's crunch time for a quartet of Crows who have so far failed to live up to expectations, writes Lee Gaskin

I think 3 out of that 4 will be out at the end of the year. Hopefully they all perform.

Doedee and Keath only played 4 games together in the AFL,
The two tall defenders that played with Doedee were either Talia, Hartigan or Otten,
In 2019 Keath was predominantly the 3rd defender with Talia and Hartigan playing the main defensive talls.
We are better now with McAsey and Butts and the 2nd tall defender than if we kept Keith who has shown one on one was his weakness.

I'm betting at some stage during the year Keith is tried at centre half forward for the Doggies. I never saw him as predominately a defender.
Yes we used him there but I was keen for him to be tried up forward for a couple of games last year.
Our structure (or coaching philosophies)were never flexible enough for the experimentation to be tried.

I think the WB definitely recruited Keath to be a long term defender

What will be interesting is Keath's best games for us was as a 3rd defender where he had the luxury to come off his man an intercept

At WB je has been recruuted to be the #1 or 2 KPD and will need to play more of a lock down contested role. Im not yet convinced Keath has this skill set, I think he struggles a bit defending one on one in the defensive 50
