Training 2020 Preseason

Interesting comment from Fagan in the SEN interview about Robertson. Won’t be surprised if we try and develop his outside game to start with, and we might see Robertson on the wing in the seniors at some stage.

Went along to training on Tuesday afternoon. Thankfully was a lot cooler than expected.
Only getting back into photography recently again, so a lot of my shots are out of focus/wrong settings. Got slightly better towards the end, and hopefully early next year I'll be able to get to Mr Ripper 's level.

A bit scrappy in skills, but lots of chatter and talk among the boys. The young players are pushing the senior players to improve. I couldn't see Robinson out there, and Christensen didn't take part in any drills, but did pose for a photo. They did injury prevention at the start of the session, before some sprints & kicking drills. I'll add more details soon.

Link to photos.
Thanks for the photos Harris Spector :What better way to get back into photography than a Lions training session.

Don't forger Mr Ripper has a much better camera and lens than you, and you have a much better camera and lens than i have. All relevant to the end result except for the human part of the equation. I have an entry level Nikon D3500 DSLR ($450) and a very basic Nikkor 55-300mm lens ($500) and get okay results. I am just an amateur but believe you can get better results. Mr Ripper may like to add to this ?.

After looking at your photos and the settings you used, with just a few adjustments i think you will get pretty good results. This is without going into all the many settings cameras have.

Set your shooting mode dial to "S" being shutter/exposure mode priority. So make sure it's set back to "S" when you next shoot for Sports.
Then set shutter/exposure speed to a minimum of 1500 or 2000 (maybe do half the next Lions shoot on 1500 then change to 2000. View results later)
Next set ISO to - Auto
Finally set Auto Focus : Set to continuous (CAF)
So just 4 changes.
Once these are set you will not need to change them when you return to "S" Mode. (you probably already know this)

don't know in this case but usually its a lot of muscle activation exercises, so those ones where you see them walking with bands around their legs in different activities. The movement restriction means that you target specific muscle movements so that they're activated and warmed up when you go to start running. Helps prevents muscle tears which occur when muscles aren't warmed up, as opposed to stretched. Stretching before exercise can actually decrease performance and increase possible injuries (admittedly this point is debated a bit) as stretching is actually stretching out the muscle and creating small tears. Its good for after exercise though.

Spot on. Activation and range of motion are the two that really matter. Particularly before intense exercise. Stretching is terrific afterward to length back out muscle fibers and help to roll out LC.

A large part of what made Hodge great was his reading of the play/anticipation. Does Starc show that ability?

I watched a bit of Neafl. Obviously unfair to compare his talents to hodge, but he showed good signs. For the most part he looked good defensively ... the last game I saw him play he had a average day tho. Defensively he was good and strong at the contest. The intercept game will take a while to develop and is something hodge didn’t master until mid way through his career

Zorks saying Ah Chee and Starcevich are the ones to watch for in 2020.

Ah Chee is one that really interests me, as I have mentioned before. He's been pigeonholed as a HBF so far in his career but as Noble pointed out after the trade he is a fast and smart ball user, and takes strong overhead marks. Maybe Fages reinvents him as that small forward foil to Charlie at AFL level. Bring on the preseason to see what group he trains with! :thumbsu:

He’s actually spent most of his career at the Suns playing as a forward.

I'm a fan of Starc but Yeo was so exciting and athletic. Not saying Starc is not athletic but Yeo was on another level. I do think Starc's ball use looks better at the same age.
They’re very similar athletically based on combine results. Yeo just had more exposed form when he was at the lions.

Yeo
20m sprint 2.91
Vertical (running) 85cm
Agility 7.80

Starc
20m 2.87
Vertical (running) 91cms
Agility 8.08

I watched a heap of games from the national championship in Starc's draft year. I had him pegged as the most competitive footballer in the draft that year.
If he can remain injury free, he will be pushing for selection.
Because I think Fages can see something in him.

One thing that has done a complete 360 in our team over the last few years is that fewer and fewer of our guys are of the lighter kind who can get pushed/thrown around easily. Even the inexperienced lads are coming in with big bodies. 🏋️‍♂️
Agreed, even the draftees have a little bit. Allison still looks light (Reminds me of Papperone who just couldn't put on anny muscle)
