Think you are wrong, he is OOC, you can't be forced to sign a contract. Contract law 101. Also would contravene Corps Law on coersion, or is that still Contract Law, haven't studied it for 20 years.
Anyway if they match and he says no, they can try to force a trade, if he says no, he can nom for the national Draft like Ball with a price on is head, or the PSD with a price on his head.

If he accepts the Crow matched offer, they have to agree under offer and acceptance laws, they can't say no.
Yeah had a look;

Restricted free agents have the right to move to a club of their choice, subject to the current club’s right of first refusal over their services. That is, if the current club can ‘match’ the offer from a suitor club, the player must stay or enter the draft. The tabled offer includes only football payments and Additional Service Agreements (ASA) amounts.

From Adelaide's POV, they would either do two things

1) Accept pick 23
2) Match the deal and let Crouch walk.

If I'm Adelaide I take what I can get and move on. Pick 23 is better than nothing.

I must admit I went & likes a bunch of historic Crows posts on the D&T board but no chance I would go to their private board. George can you please get rid of that buttons91 bloke?
I can thread ban him but not sure if that means he can't react to posts anymore. He definitely can't post.

I went over to the Crows board for a sneak peek. It was so imformative.

I hadn't realised that we had grossly underpaid for Crouch. I also hadn't realised we had held a gun to his head to get him to agree to it
Good business IMO, something they have trouble with. Think half the list has left in 3 years.

I just had a thought. What if the powers that be are still unsure of his commitment and waiting to see if crouch accepts the Adelaide contract or nominated PSD? Are we made aware if the player agrees to the contract when a team matches?

A question for the legal eagles:
Assuming this FA goes through without Adelaide matching, is there anything stopping St Kilda and B Crouch revising the contract at a later date?

I doubt anyone would be happy with that scenario and the AFL would be likely to come down hard in anyway they could. You could potentially renegotiate once he started at the club though, but the contracts usually go for longer and for more in that situation. The player agent would have to see a benefit to their player.

Just one other thing. All this, "he loves the club", "he wants to leave the club" is all so much tosh. Very few players love a club like a supporter thinks. There are some, but most see it is a business opportunity. It's a profession.

Crouch will come to us and play his best, Crouch will walk back into Adelaide and play his best, it matters little to most players. He wanted 5 x 600, he gets 4 x600 with triggers. he plays well for four and he activates the triggers whomever he plays for.

Enough of the he loves/hates the club, it is irrelevant to this business decision

The whole thing is a load of shit what a joke

Yep, he's doing the right thing and not burning bridges. Once you've made up your mind to move back to Victoria, probably teed up accomodation and searched real estate, told family etc. He's not going to easily get back to the grind of playing bottom 4 footy at a club that still harbours a lot of resentment from players over the post finals and post camp fall.

I think we will get the deal done if Crows match, our team to professional to dick Crouch around after he has committed to us

Crouch now has a guaranteed lucrative 5 year contact with incentives. He’s laughing. Crows were never going to offer that. It’s only happened because of us.

We can’t overpay and we have sent that message to our playing group. I’m proud of our club today. We did the right thing.

I’m sure we’ve been transparent with Crouch if the Crows match the bid. All parties have gone into this with the eyes open. From the sound of it we are not trading. So the Crows have a dilemma.

I think they’ll fold.

Apparently FA contracts are held like steel.
For example, Buddy, he's there for the duration.

We should have offered 6 years just for the melts. ( we may still be stuck with a cripple, ready to play in 2 weeks. ).

Classy bunch on the Adelaide board. Wishing Victoria gets a third wave of Corona so half the Vic clubs are forced to fold, like St Kilda. All over Brad Crouch.

Their best mid doesn't want to play there anymore. Maybe they need to examine why. We might see them in the finals in say 8-10 years.

I think if you were re-contract for more there would be no consequence. If you were obviously manipulating the rules you'd get smashed.

I remember they got Kym Kosta from the Dogs, he played in his first game for them and they lost so the feral Crows fans went out and found his vic plated car in the carpark and smashed it up. Guy got a present to go with his knee reco. Crows act like they think they are the sophisticated gentry of South Australia but they make Port fans look like quality.

AGREE but also think other factors come in to play - clearly his indiscretion recently, also the fact that the Crows are currently crap, was their some kind of infidelity rumour as well? , plus we are going well at the moment and he is from Ballarat - good saints country - so although its business he is a young guy (compared I'm pretty sure to a lot of us Big Footyers !) and lots of factors I'm sure come in to play
