With both Clavarino and Marsh both still uncontracted, they both might be good options to move to the rookie list since we have room on there.

Another really good consideration and one I believe a variety of other clubs are thinking about also.

Obviously its easy to cut Rookie-listed players as they are on one year contracts, so it makes sense to provide this flexibility.

It might also mean that we find a LOT of delisted player movement this year (similar to what we did with Geelong and Abbott this year).

For the first time in our lives, the Rookie Draft may be a tad exciting with clubs undercutting other clubs for their delisted players.

We could? still cut, say, Alabakis, Clavarino, Marsh who are uncontracted still, & lonie & savage take up other offers, & pay out Joyce. Then we get Eddie Ford (saint supporter with our 1st pick in the draft). And get DFA's in Frawley, McDonald, Trengrove. That would leave us with a senior list of 37. Then fill up with whatever further draft kids & rookies, that we need.

I agree with this. It will be the highest profile rookie draft ever..

Marsh is a 10,000 times better defender then OMac. That move takes us backwards

HaHa, Marsh hasn't been playing there, that's how good he is.
Mate he was easily our best defender in the VFL in 2019. Light years ahead of Joyce, Austin and Clav.

Then played some really selfless team focused roles for us in 2020 when we needed him in positions that are not his go (ruck, defensive forward etc). Dont confuse being team oriented with not being good enough. He is quick, a very good intercept mark and a decent kick. For my 2 cents (which nobody likely cares about) Marsh has well and truly earned his place on the list in 2021 ahead of many others

Oscar McDonald just got delisted from Melbourne. Let that sink in for a second. Melbourne. 2020 highlights from OMac playing 7 or so games as a third tall (the easiest role in football) include:
Rd 8: 6 disposals, 6 clangers
Rd 15: 7 disposals, 4 clangers

McDonald is not quick, is an okayish intercept mark and MOST IMPORTANTLY is possibly the worst kick in the AFL. He is a horrible, horrible, horrible footballer. He is that bad Richo (the guy overseeing the football department at Melbourne) just agreed with delisting him (the same Richo that gave DMac a top 10 B+F finish from about 13 games). If Richo reckons DMac is worth a 3 year contract, and OMac is not worth a list spot, that tells you all you need to know about how good McDonald is.

Marsh and Frawley (and whichever of Joyce / Clav we keep on the list) is more then adequate defensive cover for Howard and Carlisle

What is this boards obsession with picking up other teams absolute garbage, when we are likely delisting better options?

You are a crazy man Scottey! Have seen you hounding all the draft gurus on the Draft, Trading & Free Agency board with your never ending list of hypotheticals - love your passion and vigour for this time of year! :)
All good, its nice to chat with fellow passionate supporter's here :)

LOL compared to much maligned Darragh Joyhce.
More than 10 disposals in 4 of his 5 games. Only half of them Clangers. 23 clangers out of 57 disposals .
I can accept that Joyce mightn't be up to it , but i don't want to dump him for someone just as bad.

Also...How did he have a game with 3 disposals and 4 clangers?

Yeah it seems some just want to pick over the bones of every club , we are past the stage of taking everyone's rejects unless they are for a specific need aka McKernan

2nd hand clanger. It's where Omac's teammate saw him there and decided a more productive option would be to just turn the ball over.

He miss kicked it so he grabbed it and had another crack , yep he stuffed it up again ;)

I remember Armo doing similar, kicked it straight into the oppo. from 15 metre's, bounced off him, Armo got it again & shanked that too. And he still got 1 more game after that.

The only club footy I've ever played was under 10s. I took one mark for the entire season, somehow I happened to be where the ball landed and didn't drop it. Went back and kicked the absolute bejeezus out of the ball (I probably had 5 disposals total for the season) and it went straight up in the air, and straight back down to me. I looked at the umpire thinking wtf happens now, I don't think he knew either and just said have another go. I don't remember what happened with that one but I would say it would have been a stoppage or turnover.

Narkle please!
The Cats have a few players to move at least 3 , Steven is one they are trying to get to retire ,but still they have a couple more at least , Narkle as you say is one but surely Constable wants a move because his chances of getting a game are slim.
They do have a few spuds like Jenkins but he is still contracted for another year.

Giving away a free kick = clanger
