Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Both Sinn and Sonsie excite me more than Hobbs and Ward (but I acknowledge that’s not the common view).

Hobbs and Ward individually probably excite me more.

Sinn and Sonsie as a pair? I'd prefer that for sure! Worpel and Newcombe would have mates to flick it out to for the next decade.

Yeah, sorry, I meant individually. I’d take either Sinn or Sonsie with our first, over either Hobbs or Ward.

They have great upside, risk & reward.

Absolutely. This is also the reason I’m keen on Erasmus or NWM with our first, as I think their upside is huge. NWM reminds me of the way Day played in underage level.

I’m only nervous on Erasmus/NWM due to the go home factor in a COVID environment, which could push towards a Vic selection. The interviews would be invaluable insight - oh to be a ‘fly on the wall’.

Josh Rachele for mine, I've made my feelings known quite a while back and just thought I would post again as the draft date is nearing. The guy is an out-and-out match winner, think Martin, Green, JDG, and Petracca none of whom were recruited as midfielders. I get those that want to stack the center square.
I could bang on about stats and numbers but I can tell all of you on here this guy can be whatever he wants to be, I have been able to watch him every year from under 12 when my own son has had to play against him and his side when rep team comps come around up until last year.

Rachele is just that good, I fear if we miss taking him we will weep in the coming years when he goes on to take on big games and be the difference.

Just my two cents from an eyewitness.

What's your thoughts - starts as a forward & rolls through the midfield as he builds his tank?

Yep, that's exactly what he could do.
I feel he could also be fulltime mid. Even though the kid had a fair bit of hardness about and a healthy ego. The feel he gives me is of the sought of outside mid that receives the ball from the contest not in a running way but smart ball user type.
The reason I mentioned the type of players he could play like was to highlight that even though they are all very capable and effective mids they all are damaging in front of goal.

One good mid this draft should suffice. As it turned out there was no midfield firesafe and Mitchell, O'Meara and Wingard have another three or four quality seasons left in them. We have nine or ten mids who are 25 or under. This means that can accumulate some decent mids over the following couple of drafts and even trade in some elite talent if it looks like the window is opening. I won't complain if we finish up with a couple of quality mids but I don't see the need as being as urgent as do some. I know there are plenty on this board who do not think that our current mids can compete but I disagree. Decent ruck service and the development of Nash and Newcombe will make a big difference.

Trading down pick 5 would probably get us Johnson and NWM but I think we will see who is available at 5 first. I would not be at all surprised if we grabbed Gibcus if he was still there. Hartigan is 30 and Frost is 28. DGB will need support and there is no obvious candidate in the 25 and under brigade. We have unloaded Hartley and TOB has moved on so we don't even have any decent depth among the older players. Developing a genuine KPD prospect make sense in the circumstances. You can buy them in as Melbourne did with May and Lever and we did for our three-peat but there is a lot to be said for home grown talent like Mew, Langford snr and Knights.

Does he have speed? Some profiles says he has a good burst but the highlights suggest otherwise.

I'm leaning towards 'type' players with pick 5 rather than meat and potatoes players like Ward and Hobbs. Of course this is based only on highlights so if Ward is another Sam Walsh on the outside then he would be great but haven't seen this in the highlights.

Erasmus looks to be the best of the bunch in terms of being a threat in the middle up fwd and playing defence. He is going to be a big unit that is hard to stop.

Mac Andrew is a real point of difference. I just worry he will get pushed around badly at AFL level but if he is such an athletic freak and this doesn't concern us then happy with him.

Rachelle looks a real crafty type. Toby Greene yes.

Sinn is blistering. Would add another dimension. He looks like he will fill out to a nice size who can break tackles. If this isn't the case then don't want him. Whoever goes at 5 must be strong with the exception of Mac who is a different type.

I look at Erasmus and think he is the best prospect and then note he is super young too. Out of this group I think in time he will be the most influential player on the ground. Like a Fyfe...better kick of course.

Okay spent all morning rewatching highlights and i have flipped... AGAIN

I think Erasmus is our guy Fits a bigger need than Hobbs, think he has more x-factor/higher ceiling compared to a Ward.

He can play early as a forward and get games, over time look to inject him more in to the midfield and hopefully turn him in to a 70/30 type mid.

At the very latest, everything should be done and dusted by the last week in October
Yeah, screw the kids VCE exams. 😂

Absolutely, if the club know how to pick stars of the future with picks in teens, 20s or 30s, there are clubs it can do trade with. Geelong has picks in 30s, Richmond in teen and 20s, Brisbane in teens. This is probably discussion in trade rather than here. However, there is Bazzo too for FB, should be available in 20s that we have picks for. It seems you are leaning more as support for Mitchell,JOM,Wingard,Worpel and emerging young talent we have than overtaking them, which makes sense, someone like Knevitt/MacDonald/Taylor/Roberts/Clarke and probably only one where hopefully can play as small forward/midfield would be better. Having said that with the picks we have we could have a Ward/Clarke/Bazzo combination, requires no shuffling of picks unless you want to move down and maybe grab the lesser like mids like a MacDonald/Taylor/Roberts and get another player like Butler/Sinn/NWM as you have said.
