Pretty deserving I reckon. All Australian player. Won the AFLCA award in 2011. 2 x B&Fs. Captained his club. He's fallen off a cliff the last couple of years but I think his reputation probably suffers due to playing for a poor club for most of his career.

Never said he was a bad player, just can’t think of any 300 game players that I’d rate below him.

He's at least on par with Nathon Jones, Tyson Edwards, Kade Simpson, Jude Bolton and Drew Petrie I think - if not ahead. It's easy to forget how good he was due to his quiet last couple of years.

He’s not 21 though is he, he’s got 1 year left at best anyway. It’s the perfect chance to set an example for the rest of the AFL community.

True, but then it would be a kind of false dawn scenario and I would bet money this time next year Eddie betts and others will be on TV saying the same things he/they have said the past 3/4 years and longer. They and everyone else are mighty pissed off but there are idiots everywhere and every year. No doubt Eddie shamed Tex to the max in the conversation they had. I think the aboriginal guys should set an education program/penalty for those in the AFL system who transgress although hopefully Tex is the last.

I’m just saying the punishment isn’t strong enough. I read somewhere that 23 years ago Everett got a 4 week ban and $3000 fine for saying something similar. So in that 23 years we’ve improved the punishment by 2 weeks?

I disagree with you on that one. I think big Monkey from Collingwood copped a big fine from memory before Spiders effort. Sherman copped a lesser penalty than Everett 12yrs later. You dont increase punishments exponentially. Harsh penalties dont work in this situation and they have to fit the crime anyway, which was one of my other points which I wont rehash.

I don't understand that logic. The punishment shouldn't be harsher, it should just be called out more often which is most definitely the case. 4-6 for a first offence is fine. There shouldn't be a second offence but if there is I don't know, do they get delisted? It should be judged on a case by case basis.

Not to mention the stigma that surrounds it today. Tex will have a significantly harder time of it than the blokes doing the same thing during the 90's, I suspect he may have torpedoed a career in the media - thankfully, given the way he talks makes me want to drink drain cleaner. Him and Jonathon Brown are as bad as each other.

Steady on wikked, they are both country boys and so am I. When you cant get past grade 7 you do tend to have elocution and grammar problems. I cant see tex in any public arena/media position after his retirement although I am not sure of his popularity in SA, I presume it would be high in a 2 team town.

My logic was that I’d have hoped we’d be less tolerant of racism after 23 years. It was a lot more casual back then but the punishment was the same as it is now even though it is much more heavily frowned up, rightly so.

We are less tolerant of racism.

We are less tolerant of racism.

Slightly disagree, tolerance would generally mean it's reached consensus among the masses, yet, day in day out conversations are still had where "casual" racism is core.

In todays world of 24/7 coverage and digital assets, it's more public and out in the domain, but the environment of such individuals hasn't changed much. Eddies exasperation pretty much tells as much, you don't get tired because people are listening and taking things to heart earnestly.

We call it out far more and we deal with those people more appropriately. I would say we have come a very long way.

I think it'd be better for us if Richmond win tonight. Also West Coast's poor form has them an outside chance to miss the eight if they lose the derby on Sunday and then again the following week against Brisbane away.

So GWS v Richmond and Fremantle v West Coast are the two most important games, and a loss for Essendon (v Gold Coast) wouldn't go astray either.

There has been a lot of talk recently about an AFL team relocating to Tasmania. Anyone heard anything on this? I can’t help but imagine we’ll be under the spotlight but I honestly think that would be just straight up stupid. It would have to be a Victoria team though… and apparently the recommendation has been that the competition shouldn’t add a 19th team.

Personally I think it should be North - but that’s just because I don’t want it to be Saints and they’re an easy target. Would suck for any fan base to have their team relocated to another state. I know it’s happened in the past but just doesn’t seem right!

If it happens we can only blame ourselves. It’s entirely within our control. We win lots and make finals and the fans will come flooding in. And if we’re constantly making finals and winning and bringing in record memberships we are unmoveable. They’re only looking at us since we’ve been sad sacks of the afl for so long. But we can change that by winning.

If they have any brains it'll be the Suns
