It's all good..
We had to make spots and only use the current OOC players.
You want to keep them all and it's hard to choose, have a go Ash.

You need to
  • Delist 2x for Mirkov (contracted) and Boyd - (rookie list)
  • Delist minimum 3x draft (senior list)
  • Upgrade Owies to senior list
  • Delist or trade any additional players for trades (senior list)
Good Luck
Sorry mate, didn't even realise the amount of quality players OOC. I hate this part of footy the most because it's brutal when you don't always get a 2nd or 3rd chance.

Do we know what list sizes will be at next year? Back to normal, or somewhere in the middle? I can only see us picking up max 6-7 players through trades + the drafts, so worst case scenario list sizes stay the same and we have to cut 6-7 of our own.

That list for me is:
  • RETIRE - Murphy, Casboult
  • DELIST - O'Brien, Boyd, Cottrell
  • TRADE - Setterfield (or delist?)
I'd be comfortable getting rid of those blokes, but it's tough to pick some others. Parks, Gibbons, Newnes, OMac in that order would probably be next, but I'd like to think that we can get away with just the 6 departures I mentioned above.

Retire: Casboult, Murphy

Delist: Boyd (r), Cottrell (r), Gibbons, McDonald

Downgrade: Marchbank (medical)

Upgrade: Owies

Trade (possibilities, not that I necessarily want to but can see happening): Petrevski-Seton (good value), Setterfield (limited return)

Think OMac's injury is frustrating. He got a single season opportunity to prove himself and got injured. It's a rough world and not always a fair caper.

Cottrell is another rough one. I don't extend the same five-year deal to rookie listings. I think he's a tenacious player but sadly not quite up to the level. Would be fighting to keep him for the VFL list.

I'd prefer to give O'Brien an additional year to prove himself than Gibbons who while he is a proven depth player has negligible influence on games.

The Marchbank move may not be possible but it's one that I would be investigating.

Hmmm, tough calls when u think about it, we dont have alot of trade capital, maybe sps and setterfield, but not gunna get alot, would prefer them to stay and get rid of fringe players
Murphy retire
I'd rookie casboult, hes good depth if needed, he could dominate in the twos until needed, we have no back up talls
I'd be probably looking at moving on newnes, gibbons, cottrell, obrien types and let the sps setterfield carrol ect ply their trade in the vfl until called up on form, nothing wrong with that, sick of seeing good potential young players in the 1's out of position and struggling

lol feel sorry for Boyd didn't even get the chance to prove himself, surely that's not on him.

I think we will give O'Brien another year, would be a silly mistake not too, yeah he's not a superstar at 21, but give him time ffs (not directed at you specifically)

O'Mac injury is frustrating, but if the rumour are true, no thanks, you made your own bed thanks mate.

As for Cottrell another tough decision, ok at winger, but AFL standard is debatable.

Lot of tough choices at end of year, would hate to be in list management at Carlton.

1. Jack Silvagni
3. Marc Murphy
4. Lochie O'Brien
5. Sam Petrevski-Seton
7. Matthew Kennedy (placed on Rookie List)
9. Patrick Cripps
10. Harry McKay
17. Brodie Kemp
19. Eddie Betts (placed on Rookie List)
24. Nic Newman
27. Mark Pittonett
32. Jack Newnes
33. Sam Ramsay
35. Ed Curnow
36. Josh Honey (2nd yr rookie)
40. Michael Gibbons (Promoted to Snr list)
41. Levi Casboult
44. Matthew Owies (Cat B International Rookie) - (to be retained as a Cat B Rookie)
46. Matthew Cottrell (2nd yr rookie)

Retire: Murphy & Casboult
Delist: Newnes & McDonald
Trade: (2 from) Marchbank Setterfield & OBrien

Moving on 6 players will give us 3 picks in the main draft and a category B opening.

I want some consistency on the list next year for the first time in over a decade.

Whilst we would be admittedly selling low on the three trade candidates listed, I don't think any of them will reach thier ceiling with us. They and us are in need of a freshen up.

I'd look to North Melbourne, package two of them together and get back into this year's 3rd round (late 30s) and another pick next year.
I think they'd be willing to try an strike gold with a couple of former top 10 picks at the expense of a couple of picks in the 30s.

Leaves you then with: ECurnow Betts Kennedy Gibbons Newman Cottrell Boyd et al playing for thier careers in 22.

Hard to argue too much with any of this, but I would look at retaining OMac if Levi is retiring. Has that fwd/def/ruck swing capability.
Marchbank to rookie list makes sense. Owies upgrade 100% earned.

Interesting to see that there’s speculation around Rory Lobb potentially returning to Victoria. Has two years remaining on his contract at around $700k per year which is not cheap but he could be a great replacement for Levi and be the perfect partner for TDK.

Strange one. Did not see that coming at all.

But you're absolutely right. Would be a perfect replacement for Levi.

SPS is only top 22 at the moment by way of default. Cerra would be close to one of the first half-dozen picked. Giving away draft picks at the drop of a hat as our only trading option, whenever we've identified a trade target, has only stunted our ability to build a list with the right mix of players to compete with the top sides. I also think Dow will end up the better player than SPS.
Forget Cerra. He is going to the Tiges. He barracked for them, his family barracked for them and, despite the doomsayers, they are still in the premiership window. We are not.
