Classic Bergevin?

“The trade Marc Bergevin made to get Jeff Petry: March 2, 2015 - Traded from Edmonton Oilers to Montreal Canadiens for round 2 pick in the 2015 draft (Jonas Siegenthaler) and round 4 pick in the 2015 draft (Caleb Jones).”

First star tonight. Superb start to the season.

I went back to check exactly what I wrote on this, and I was relived I didn't write off the idea of keeping him:

But we couldn't really keep him because we signed Holtby (who at least seems like a lovely person!) + qualified Virtanen. Plus I recall there being a brief moment of time where Michael Ferland's agent flagged that he wanted to return from his concussions next season, which was absolutely nuts, but meant we couldn't bank on sending him to Robidas Island.

Not being able to keep Toffoli was always likely, which is why trading for him in the first place was stupid. But Benning loves to do dumb ****!
Vancouver could of kept him if they didn't trade for Nate Schmidt.

They choose a top 4 defenseman over a top 6 winger.

If Benning was smart he could of signed both Toffoli and Vatanen for the same cap hit as Schmidt.

Well there's a bit more of a story there though. There was incredible unhappiness at the state of the Canucks defence prior to Schmidt's acquisition, with Tanev and the solid local boy Troy Stecher walking out the door with no replacements coming in, plus the silly OEL trade option not going anywhere. There was a lot of pressure to get a defenceman in. If they had to pick between the two, they probably did need to acquire Schmidt. (although I didn't view the Schmidt trade as the slam dunk that much of the Canucks base did). I just think it never needed to get to the point of only one of Schmidt/Toffoli

Seems like a time management issue.

it's an incredible unforced error from Benning. He's getting so much heat for that interview, "ran out of time" is destined to become a Canucks reference for years, and now with Canucks being stomped by the Leafs....boy it could finally be happening

of course the replacement has to better, and with bloody Canucks old boy Dale Tallon sitting around waiting for a job.......

Do we think Ovie has 22 goals in him this season to reach Top 5 all time by end of this season?

Passes Garner with todays score.
Easily, if he wasn't so cursed with lockouts/shortened seasons/global pandemic he's be close to all time leader by now
