Game Day 2022 AFL Grand Final Geelong vs Sydney

Commentators were quite smug about a Melbourne win at the beginning too.

Healy saying to Whateley at around the 12 min mark of the first quarter “we were hoping it was going to be competitive to at least half time but now hopefully it’s still a game at quarter time”

Got a fair way ahead of themselves

If this doesn't even get looked at by the AFL then why should Berry's?

Did the hubs end up being an advantage for the Melbourne clubs in finals over the last two seasons?

When you think about it:
  • no commuting
  • meals provided
  • no house work
  • almost no chance of catching other viruses
  • kept away from pets, kids (no being woken up in the night) and other distractions
  • little to no opportunities to party/get up to no good (Richmond players notwithstanding)

The clubs that spent the most time in the hubs seemed to do the best. Similar with WA in the cricket.

It has shown once again how hard it is to win back-to-back flags or even make back-to-back Grand Finals.

Pre-season more than 75% on our Board predicted either a Melbourne or Bulldogs premiership. Zero predicted Freo, Collingwood or Sydney. Hopefully those who predicted Geelong will be knocked out next week 🙄.

Not all good teams make a run of it. They were unstoppable for 1.5 years, they're just unlucky that it was two first halves of a year instead of 2 last halves.

There's the desire factor too I guess. They got there last year, it'll just happen again. No need to work for it.

The Essendon 2000 premiership team always comes to mind. Missed out on a grand final in 1999 by one point in the prelim (kicking 14.19 to 16.8), and then bumped into the Brisbane dynasty in 2001. They went 56 wins, 10 losses over that three year period, including an undefeated streak that lasted more than twelve months at one stage, and were minor premiers three years in a row, but only ended up with one flag to show for it.
