A grade coaching System, A grade and elite player talent, and a well rounded highly invested playing group that know how to strangle and kill off the opposition.

I want that...and f*cking Geelong prove you can...and this upsets me.

Geelong don't have much elite talent any more. Cameron and a thirty something Hawk are probably their elite now. They are so well drilled and solid in their systems and structures that they look impenetrable. They don't have many pure mids now, it's like they have a team of defenders and forwards. Every touch a side gets against them is pressured and hard earned and the rushed kick forward is sent under pressure with little direction so they can cut it off. Sydney are similar in the way they play. If they get there too it should be some contested GF.

Just shows that fast footy wins. Pretty much the only thing that Geelong and Collingwood changed this year and this is the result. I really hope we don’t tolerate slow boring sideways football for long next year no matter how long Ratten and this so called expert coaching staff have left on their contracts. Pressure and fast footy is king, we don’t pressure and we play slow.

We are a real nothing game plan. Pressure isn't outstanding and skill and speed are both below average.

The thing that I got out of Geelong last night is that their midfield isn't a Bulldogs or Carlton set up. It's like everyone that isn't a KPP is mobile and moves up to block up defence and spread on the counter. A lot of their talls aren't traditional types, they have quite a lot of those athletic big guys like Cameron, Blicavs and Stanley. Hawkins is their forward pillar but then you have a lot of others that can move up the field and link. It's a really basic set up but it's so organised and the players understand where they need to get to and how to set up.

I hate Scott but he's proven to be a master coach who's adapted his list and game plan.

Geel actually look like they train and believe in their system.
Us, not so much.

Their midfield is a real even spread now instead of having a reliance on one or two. I always thought Chris Scott was holding them back because of their finals record but he’s really turned it around the past few years. Despite their crap finals record they’ve always been good defensively, we haven’t been a good defensive team since Ross was around.

To play the sort of fast footy that Geelong and Collingwood play you need to have players with good kicking skills and we don't have enough of them.

Sinclair is about our only player that you can bank on to hit a target by foot every time, a pity we can't clone him.

It's more about controlling the game. When it's on their terms they constrict others and make them play worse. They make other sides play rushed and messy footy by making every thing a contest or a 50/50. 90% is system and work rate.

Yeah their systems are good too, you can tell that every player knows their role and are on the same page unlike us where we are like headless chooks.

We haven't had a good system since the Ross Lyon era, it was great the way we could just dismantle teams back then who just couldn't break through our full press zone defence which was groundbreaking back in 2009, we really should have won a flag that year before everyone else caught on to it.

In 2010 Collingwood copied our system and did it better than we did and even than we still should have beaten them in the first GF when they choked.

Since then we've dropped off a cliff and haven't been relevant apart from a brief finals fling in 2020, maybe we should give Ross a call.

If the Bombers can bring back Hird the Turd why can't we bring back Ross.the Boss?
