Zero chance. This is basically stolen generation type stuff that’s been alleged. There would be a national uproar if he ever set foot in an AFL club again if proved true.

This is potentially as big a story as the Bombers' flu shots. A few thoughts that come to mind...

Considering a fair chunk of current senior coaches (including our own) worked at the Hawks under this regime, the repercussions might be felt far and wide.

Without trying to dismiss the allegations, I hope the players involved have been able to receive the right support and can find peace with their families.

I hope the perpetrators are never seen again in our game. If that means Clarkson and Fagan (or even Ratten) are gone, so be it. But I feel this Birt guy might end up being the fall guy, regardless of his involvement, because he's not in the "AFL bubble".

Part of me hopes this isn't the tip of the iceberg and we find out all clubs operate this way, that would be heartbreaking for our game. But another part of me hopes all clubs take a look in their closets and get all of this out in the open, because that's the only way it can get addressed.

I said this in the thread about Collingwoods "do better" report a few months ago.

Systemic racism and racist behaviour will have been prevalent at every single club (GWS and GC the possible exceptions) purely due to the time footy clubs have been around. Reconciliation and Workplace safety cultures for first nations people is a fairly fresh initiative. Dont for a second think this would just be the pies and hawks. Weve had our own issue with Robbie Muir as a start and im tipping there would be plenty more.

Saying all that, the hawks report makes the pies report seem like a warm hug. If ours is anything like that i might pack up shop on the saints altogether.

If Eddie Maguire can be forced out of Collingwood then Clarko and Fagan are both absolutely disposable.

This is worse than Hird IMO.

I understand the appeal of doing 'whatever it takes' re: performace, but bullying people into abortions and seperating from thier families/partners is beyond any reasonable scope of a ****ing football club.

These guys need to be blacklisted.

I think saints have been open and honest that we haven't always been the best with our first nation's players, but we have been excellent and almost a leader for the last 20 years on cultural understanding.

I'd dare say only Richmond would be ahead of us in that regard

Im kind of torn here on Clarko and Fages.

In my opinion no one involved from the Hawks should be allowed near a football club again.

On the evidence of it.

• Hird is back and probably coaching again
• The AFL ****s over North pretty hard if they make him stand down
• Eddies resignation seemed pressured but not forced, like he made the decision as the best option for the football club. He could have fought and likely stayed
• Clarko is explicitly named a few times with some appalling accusations against him, Fagan isnt at all

Fages is probably safe with some counselling... Clarko, i dont know. I really dont.

Way way more recently. Most of the Pies report was post 2010. To be clear NOTHING this appalling (not even close) was in the Pies report. This is a whole other level but racism systemically is still occuring.

Yeh absolutely but i have no doubt there would be some pretty horrible stories from our past. I pray nothing like this but there is a carthasis and learning and healing from these reports, i hope we do.

Finnis' response to the Robbie Muir story was first class and exactly how anyone should act if another story was to come to light. He believed, apologised and allowed reconciliation to be done on Robbie's timeline, not his own. Not once did Finnis get publicly defensive or question the story.

I'm not sure I have faith in the new CEO to handle a similar situation so well.

Though Clarkson and Fagan have been named, there are a number of times when Coaching group is used to talk about club actions. How many clubs have had Hawks assistants become senior figures at their clubs thanks to Clarko. Which ones were part of this and which ones weren't?

There will be a lot of emergency meetings today for many clubs to work out what their former Hawthorn employees did or did not know before the entire report is made pubic.

Do you honestly think people would make those stories up? Do you think the Stolen Generations were made up too?

Honestly this isn't some joke, peoples lives were destroyed over this but they're just going to make it all up for no reason. Seriously get a grip on reality.

This is a very delicate and well written out and thought out piece. There us no way this would see the light of day if there was fabrication.

There is journalism like "buddy came home and took out all the bins in the street, one neighbour reports" or "this player was cmaking a scene while maybe off his head" and there is a journalistic piece like this...

There is nothing in the reputation of the reporter or the media outlet he works for to suggest that they are lying, which is the implication of your post.

So yes, when Russell Jackson reports for the ABC, I pretty much instantly assume it is, at least, almost entirely factual. The different stories contained in the piece contain consistencies, and it is clear he has spoken to multiple sources for his reporting.

Relaxing is what got us here.
