Yeah i get that and understand he didn't do much to impress but its handy to have depth.

We had a golden injury run in 2022 which won't be replicated in 2023 so we are going to need guys like him to fill holes for extended periods. We can all argue that Meek, Darcy and to a lesser extent Logue are role players or not best 22 but they're all still valuable and will prove to leave big holes when injuries inevitably hit the team.
Yeah but you can't really sell someone a spot on the list by telling them that they're replacement for when x player gets injured.

Tucker never lived up to his pre-hammy form unfortunately. Can you really guarantee that he's better depth at the moment then say erasmus or johnson? They've still got so much to go before reaching their ceiling, and could very well have breakout years next year. The same can't be said about Tucker. We've seen his celing for our team. I feel he'll probably play a lot better with North, but we've seen what he can do for us and its notgreat.

Not to continue the conversation as i think generally we agree on the main point, as an aside though i'll be disappointed if Erasmus isn't in our best 22 round 1 and should maintain his spot all year.

I hope MJ gets that NOD bump, super interrupted season 1 and then excels in season 2 with a full pre season.

In a perfect world I'd love an uninterrupted fyfe pre-season with him going back into the middle and erasmus starting as more hf. He seems to have a good goal sense.

I'm using JL purely as a timestamp. If you want you can replace it with 2019.

Hughes, Nyhuis, Collins, Watson, Duman, Ryan, Logue, Cox - 2015-2018. That's where the problem was.

Chapman - best available at the time, move to midfield/wing is imminent.
Walker - NGA, we were always going to match.
Clark - probably the only questions mark in terms of if we needed another defender or not, but he's polled coaches votes in more games this year than any one else on the team bar brayshaw. Clearly a good recruitment.

Hughes had just finished top 5 in our b&f in a year where our entire defence was decimated with injury. 3 years was too much but his season in 2020 was better than Logue's 2022.

Logue was allowed to go into the year uncontracted because all the defenders we've drafted/recruited since 2019 are a head of him in the 22. He is surplus to our needs. Why sign him early and have yet another defender on our list?
Taking best available is the most simplistic view of what constitutes list management. Trading in players is something we are going all in on right now. And developing players (such as Logue, Hamling, Clark, Chapman, Young, Wilson or Cox) in other positions is something we routinely avoid like the plague. All of them have attributes which indicate they have potential in other roles.

We have failed to resource our forward line for years, and now we seem to have a plan to trade in a second ruck who does not project as a forward.

Again you bizarrely seem to want to take a crack at Logue despite saying that we have clearly indicated a lack of commitment to him.

'Midfielder Connor Blakely and forward Joel Western were informed they would not be offered contracts for the 2023 season.'
