All sounds reasonable from Melbourne's POV. The question I want Bell to have at the front of his mind is about what the walk away trade would be for Melbourne? Would they knock back the 2 first rounders we actually have available and send him to WC in the PSD?
“From Melbournes POV” being the key term here. This isn’t a Melbourne football club press release though. It’s a supposedly impartial journalist trying to set an agenda of what a player is worth.

This is the MFC public relations management period of the timeline where the supporters are conditioned to expect a bigger price, then when Fremantle pays a lesser price it's because Freo are bad, not because Melbourne rolled over.

He hasn't been given a chance to break into the Melbourne team because there's been no opportunity yet. He has been performing really well in the VFL kicking numerous goals and being prominent
there has been some opptunity surley, dont think Melborune's tall forwads were performing so well that they couldnt be dropped. Should be playing round 1 next year you would think.

Lobb, Logue and Acres roles must be filled by mature AFL players.

So Tall Fwd, Depth Kpd and a winger. If Meek leaves same deal. We need a 3rd in line ruck who is ready..may be able to draft a ready made ruck from state level.

It is fairly simple. Replace what we lose.

Melbourne haven't had a decent forward line in the second half of the year and he still couldn't get a game.
He might turn out to be a great player. But there is no way you could put him in front of McDonald at this stage.

Is is really that simple? Good key forwards that want to move to WA are rare as....

I think Jackson may need a summer with Graham and Lecras.

Then mobile fwds around him like Sturt and possibly Corbett.

Not sold on Treacy and Tabs seems cooked.

Amiss is the key though. He should play every game and hopefully bags 20odd. He is the future, but has to be looked after out there. Hopefully gets the 3rd defender for a few years.

Well if Amiss gets the third defender (you're not sold on Treacy and Tabs is cooked) who gets defender 1 and 2?

Good effort, probs too many GC/GWS list cloggers but seems within reason. Most on here will get annoyed at your Lobb and Jackson trades

The Dees went hard early with the rhetoric with Hogan. It's just a shame we caved.

Jackson is out of contract and there's no way we should be giving anything more than two firsts. If they don't accept it, let him walk to the PSD, and let's use our picks in the draft and the extra cap room to target a free agent in the next couple of years (Bolton, Naughton etc).

It's better that Jackson hasn't nominated us, otherwise there's a huge obligation to get him here. The media would paint us as the bad guys if we don't negotiate a deal.

The Dees f^£ked us with a former no.1 athletic ruckman in 1997 when he was out of contract. The similarities are uncanny, both three years in with enormous potential. Two firsts for an out of contract Jackson is more than enough, otherwise we walk.

Can I float the following option without getting in C graders. This hasn't worked in the past (Kersten, McCarthy, Matera etc)

Lobb and Taberner becomes Amiss and Taberner
Logue doesn't need to be replaced as a defender. As a thrid tall forward it becomes Fyfe.
Aish takes Acres' wing.

Go to the draft and take players in those roles (and more forwards) and develop.

Scaiff is a tall forward (NGA) and won't get a bid early if at all.
Edward Allen is a wing, we should be able to get him with a second either from Lobb or Acres leaving.
There isn't a great deal of KPDs around either gettable or in this draft - hence the interest in Logue. Busslinger and Hayes will both be very good, but will be gone by our picks. Hugh Davies will be available around the pick we get for Meek.

AFL trades: Delisted Fremantle Dockers midfielder Connor Blakely on what the next chapter may hold

Connor Blakely hasn’t given up on his AFL dream, despite getting cut by Fremantle this week after seven seasons.
The midfielder, who was one of two players delisted by the Dockers on Monday alongside speedster Joel Western, said his managers Paul Connors and Robbie D’Orazio were working hard to find him an AFL lifeline.
Blakely said if Plan A failed, he may look at moving interstate for a fresh start and flagged Gold Coast’s VFL side as a potential option with close friends and former Freo teammates Sam Collins and Lachie Weller on their AFL list.
He will spend grand final week in Melbourne and is likely to meet with several Victorian-based AFL clubs while he’s there.
“I definitely still have the opinion that I’m good enough to play AFL, hence why I want to see what else is out there,” Blakely told SEN WA.
My managers are working hard, both Paul Connors and Robbie D’Orazio, they’re talking to basically every club to see if I can fit on their list somewhere.

“The good thing is that I’m a delisted free agent now so I don’t have to get traded, I can be added on the back end of a list when they see fit.

“I’m going over to Melbourne for the grand final and Robbie has a couple of meetings with a couple of clubs in the pipeline so hopefully seeing them in person will help my case.

“At the same time, is Plan A of going onto another list doesn’t work out, I’ve got Plan B and Plan C and things like that in place so I’m not putting all of my eggs in the one basket.

“We’re working on a potential move to the VFL (if Plan A doesn’t work out)... I’ve been over here (in Perth) for quite a while and to go over there and go on an adventure and not held back by anything (is appealing).

“My partner is really supportive of doing that. I’ve got a couple of friends who live over on the Gold Coast in Lachie Weller and Sammy Collins and I’ve got a few friends in Melbourne so I’m just weighing up a few things.”
Blakely admits he saw the writing on the wall early in the season when young midfielders like Neil Erasmus and Nathan O’Driscoll were getting picked ahead of him.
“It was definitely on the horizon, especially at the start of the year when I was playing some decent footy in the WAFL and unfortunately in the derby and games like that early on, they decided to blood like a Neil Erasmus and a few other lads ahead of me like Nathan O’Driscoll,” Blakely said.
“I thought from that point, without forecasting exactly that my time was done, I thought it was going to be an uphill battle from there to play.”
The 26-year-old said despite the disappointment of not adding to his 78 AFL appearances this year, he was taking a leaf out of Matt de Boer and Tendai Mzungu’s books to remain positive.
“The last three years have definitely been a challenge, I would’ve liked more opportunities but these things happen in footy and all you can do is have a positive mentality about it and just move on,” Blakely said.
“I found great motivation out of guys like Matty de Boer and Tendai Mzungu, when I was coming through in 2015, 2016, I was getting games into me under Ross (former coach Ross Lyon) and certainly earned those games but guys like that were missing out on selection.
“The way that they were to lead guys down at Peel, I sort of channelled that I made sure and what they were able to do and wanted to make sure that I had a really positive attitude and helped out the likes of Matt Johnson, Karl Worner and Neil Erasmus that are going to have some good AFL careers.”

I like it!

I'd cut the Hawks deal, and Burgess.

But otherwise, the rest looks reasonable.

It’d rather Burgess than Sproule tbh and I don’t particularly rate Burgess.

The only reason is that Burgess can play in the ruck if required. At least in theory he provides depth in multiple areas, even if he isn’t much good.

Wouldn’t mind trying our luck in the draft for mature aged KPDs. The guy that won the VFL guy player of the year would be a nice addition. There’s at least two other decent options in the WAFL imo, although Schlenslog is already a DFA.

Personally I really like the Hawthorn deal. Think it works well for both parties.
