List Mgmt. 2022 List Management: Draft, Trade and FA Pt2: Electric Boogaloo

We’ve cooked the list, letting players go like Acres reeks of salary cap mismanagement. All good getting Jackson, he’ll be very good. But he’s not going to tip us from 6th to a premiership. Especially losing Lobb, Logue, Acres, Mundy all in one off season.
So we've cooked the list because acres doesn't want to sign the contract with us where he earns more money than the contract with carlton if he meets the performance clauses? Yer nah.

As melting and being irrational over trading news is a passion of mine, I might be starting to come around to your thinking. On reflection, it might just be that the only time we "win" trades is with GC or St Kilda. Feels like most other clubs we do a poor job for what the player should be worth at the time of trade

But maybe the whole thing looks better after trade period and I'm going early on the melt...

We might be shit at trades but boy do we come cartwheeling into the room when it’s time to hand out stupid contracts

im worried about both…
but agree we need the forwards first…
Stengle is everything you want in a small forward
I think Stengle performs because of the quality of having Hawkins and Cameron.
I could see Walters being as dominant as Stengle in their team....I'd bank on Walters having even better form if we had that luxury.

Same goes for the rest of the smalls really.
Having multiple A quality keys, I think, is the real recipe for allowing your smalls to flourish. They take the defensive attention when they're producing and the smalls can run rampant.

is Anyone bullish or "meh" about Sharp. I didnt realise he was in the system for so long. Also his under18 highlights didnt get me excited at all

I 100% agree but Melbourne have already said they want 2 firsts & 1 to be top 10.

Freo have put too much work in to not deliver the trade.

Jackson would be pick one this year & next year. The kid is a star
If we don't offer a top 10 pick, then what?

Personally I think a #3 who was a rising star is worth a top 10 pick. But if Freo are channelling their inner-Snuff, well then what will the Dees do? WCE don't have a spare top 10 pick. So will the Dees let him go for nothing in the PSD?

A third round pick for Acres is a joke. I don't understand why we let him go, I watched our finals game against the bull dogs and he was really prominent.
He's been really super this year and is only 26 yo and I think he has finally hit his peak and found his place on the field. He is so good overhead and his kicking is generally really good, can kick a goal too. 189cm tall ,big body ,tackles well ,huge tank, runs both ways ,he looked to be really hitting his straps and would have been great for us for the next 4 or so years at least.
It just doesn't make sense ,I'd rather him then Logue to be honest and Logue too ,we should have kept as an important swingman, they are rare and a really good thing to have.
Not sure what they are doing at the club but if these players were not that important in their eyes ,why are all the eastern states clubs going after them with really good contracts, Carlton needed a wingman , so we just said here ,we'll give you Acres ,we have shaped him and he's now an A grade wingman. Now we have a big hole to fill, doesn't make sense.

Exactly my thinking too. He was arguably the most consistent finals performer behind Serong. Felt like he finally got his niche and belongs. His performance v Geelong still clear as day. Took on Blicavs, Guthrie and he put on a clinic. The club must back Johnson, Worner and lesser extent Henry. A huge if. NOD and Johnson doesn't seem comfortable. Henry at this point of his career is on the crossroads and look meh.
Bell is dicing with danger here. Jackson won't be enough to cover any of the positions. WA guys leaving to go to Victoria is inexcusable

I'm busting a gut not to be triggered and commence a tyrannical rant of epic proportions. I just hope that losing so many experienced players in one off-season doesn't cause us to go backwards next year...
Meh, I'm still trying to recall one game where either Logue or Acres was the difference between winning and losing. Sure Acres played some decent footy but he's no match winner.

As for the others, why would you trade them unless we win the trade?

Acres isn't an A grade wingman. That's wearing purple glasses.

And the rumour on here is that we actually offered Acres the chance to earn more. Its just that our contract was performance based but Carlton's money was guaranteed.

Tells you all you need to know about where he is at: he chose less money but guaranteed over the chance to earn more but having to depend on his own performance.

I find the rumour very very hard to believe.

In terms of the Private School V Public thing, it was a while ago now but I'm a good example of that.

I played over 100 games of junior footy, was Captain of my club for most of them, F&B twice, combined side centreman etc.
My parents decided to send me to the local high school while all my best friends went private. My Dad died not long after and I ended up getting into drugs and smoking and stopped footy.

I'm not saying that was anyone's fault but I doubt very much, with my record I'd have been allowed to fall between the cracks at a Private school.

I went to a public school and many of my mates went private and a lot of them from both backgrounds went off the rails.

Harriet Wran, daughter of former NSW Premier Neville Wran, has done time in prison for drugs and was involved in murdering her drug dealer.

I don't think it makes much difference to be honest, although obviously if your parents are alcoholics/drug addicts/gamblers/dole bludgers you're much more likely to follow in their footsteps.

Its not really a strategy though. We don't want him (at least at market rate), I'm not sure why we play hardball and push him to the PSD to then lose him for nothing?

If the options are trade Acres for a pick outside the top 40 to help a contender get stronger or he goes in the PSD to a bottom 6 team I prefer the latter.

Will be embarrassing if we trade Acres for a F3 and he tears it up in a final against us.

That's fair enough though isn't it?

If Acres tears a hamstring or dislocates his shoulder at work he earns much less? A plumber, school teacher, etc wouldn't accept that, why should a footballer?

Losing Acres and Logue who are both solid AFL players and WA boys to Melbourne clubs seems on the surface to be madness. Inside knowledge at the club must be accounted for. Perhaps knowing the battles Acres has had with soft tissue injuries is why the club had performance clauses in his proposed contract. Jackson is an upgrade on Logue if the only role for Logue is Ruck/Forward.
Sharp has the potential to surpass Acres with the right coaching in his home environment. He is a very quick, goal kicking wingman.
Overall our team will be better off if those on the inside with all the knowledge have made the right call.
🤞
