These types of situations can also be the making of them. Giving them resilience and so-on. Think that’s far more like to be the case than it being a career-killer.

Thankfully he is still pretty young. I reckon Max will have some tips for him on how to handle the disappointment.
He’s resilient, he’ll bounce back. Many years left in his career hopefully.

What a bummer! 🙁

An ACL isn't what it used to be. It's still a long recovery time, but the recovery outcomes seem to be getting better all the time and it's certainly not the career killer it once was.

Still, gut wrenching news for Coffield.

Devastating news, just bloody horrible.
Not the end of the world for us or for Coff but just flattening. Hopefully he does as other have by recovering well and coming back fit and hungry.

Let's hope that's all the bad news we get.

It seems to have gone out of fashion these days.

I'm not sure it was ever really done unless for a specific reason.
For example if it was 2009 and Nick Riewoldt, you might consider it.

Its just not that urgent for Coffield to undertake the extra risk and the worse long term result.

David rodan had a few Lars operations that didn't last. No sportsmen do that at all anymore as far as I know. It was a short lived fad operation. Even older players (Joe Ingles, kahwi Leonard for basketball examples go for traditional)

Pato - Broken leg (season over before it began)
Gresh - Torn Achilles (misses 21 games )
Coff - ACL (season over before it begins)

Not to mention the bad run of concussions for Paddy and the horrific broken jaw last year of Clarks that forced him to miss half the year.

Seriously, do we have the worst luck of any club when it comes to serious injuries to our best young players?

Did one of the Menzels have it quite young too?

Early 2019 , Geary : Compartment Syndrome
June : 2019 Geary : Broken leg.
2021 : Geary Broken leg.

According to Gabelich, Ratts was “emphatic” a couple of days ago in an interview that Coff was the one to look out for who was going to have a breakout year this year and had been “sensational” on the track over the preseason.

So while it sucks that it won’t happen this year, at least we’ve hopefully got something special to look forward to going forward.

I won’t be at all surprised if he makes an AA team or two. In fact I’ve long thought it will be a disappointing result if he doesn’t.
