Join a team who could be a top four team for years to come or join one of West Coast, Gold Coast, North Melbourne or Adelaide. Hard choice, really.
Yep, with the teams most likely to be at the bottom of the ladder he is most likely moving interstate anyway.
He will be a Lion.

Hopefully that is the case and he comes play for us in 2023 & beyond, although I guarantee that if a team like Collingwood are down at the bottom end of the ladder come by the end of the season, I wouldn't be surprised if our good old friend & three-peat legend in FlyBags (Craig McRae) has a massive whisper in Ashcroft's ear, in regards for him to play for them and staying in Victoria with his family, friends & support network as a result.

I have no doubt they will put a bid on him if he is still there at their pick.

Collingwood probably should be looking for some top end KPP soon.

They’ve loaded up on mids and outside types the last two drafts. They have a real need for a decent KPF.

I think that they will come hard for McStay this year actually.

Honestly, McStay has a big decision to make. Stay at Brisbane with a fair contract or take overs to join a club desperate for a KPF.

Would be a massive loss for us in the future (in terms of on-field structure) if he did end up moving back to Victoria next year.

If he starts the year well which I am tipping he will.
Teams will come for him.
Could very easily see him getting offers of 5 yrs at 750k similar to a Darling type of contract.

I hate the thought of that happening but I feel it's a genuine possibility. Collingwood, other than the Daicos boys, haven't really stocked up on young mids over the last few years. Sm/med fwds, half-backs, run on the wing, some with the potential to rotate thru the midfield but bugger all genuine midfielders.

I'd hope the work and time the lions have already put into young Ashcroft will count for something. I hope the character of the young man appreciates that. I'd also reckon the club has already spoken to him about their plans, pathway and future they have envisaged for him. His nomination may not be a lock at this stage but I do believe it's at very short odds to happen.

He would be, but ultimately as the Hawks have shown us - there will be times where players will leave due to money and you should never compromise your list/cap for one player.

I’d be pretty sad if we lost McStay after all this time. Would love it if he retired here.

He does deserve to get paid though.

He doesn't strike me as the "take the money and run" kind of bloke. He's been in Brisbane a long while now. Being settled in a community, cost of living, lifestyle, friendships in and out of the club, will all have a bearing on his decision. Not to mention being part of a successful team and club for many years. The money will come for Dan, probably back loaded in the next contract and I reckon that will be for 4yrs giving him the security he would be looking for.

I know this isn't going to win any support here but I'd like to see Dan put in a solid year as a KPF to earn the high regard he seems to have.

He hasn't finished in the Top 10 in our B/F ever , sometimes way down the list.

Last year he showed signs that he was improving and his key attribute for a big man is his versatility and mobility. He's also a good team player.

But crikey he isn't actually where some think he is already , not shown up much in any finals match.

He looks like he could be a good player , sometimes his role has been a bit restrictive , he'll be 27 this year and this is the year where we'd be hoping he's going to really impact games.

Dalions Darling has been a very good player for a long time. Won the WC goalkicking 4 times. 5 top 5 finishes in the WC B/F as a KPF with Kennedy in the team when they've had finals teams/premiership.

I don't see Dan as being in his class yet. Not remotely.

I'm hoping he can put in a season or two like that.

I didn’t say that I think he is currently worth that, but I do think offers might come in a similar ballpark.
Especially if he has a really good start to the year and remains out of contract here. I do really think like others have mentioned, that Dan is really settled here and would really want to stay. And here is where he is likely to earn a contract more suited to his current output.
To be honest though, I have never really rated Jack Darling that highly either.

So who’s head are we looking at?

I know it’s Alvaro’s.

Best haircut of all the the crew haha I’d be able to match him if I didn’t value my hair length more 😂

Yes I understand what you were saying and agree for a team with no one of his ilk in it he could get a big offer if he can increase his output consistently. So the first half of the year with no Hipwood should be the time where he stands up as a force in the forward half. Like everyone else I'd like to keep him but I still believe he's overrated on BF.

I haven't seen enough of Darling regularly to make any sort of the definitive judgement but the pure stats/record say he's a serious player and I've seen him swing games with 10 or 20 minute bursts. Something you'd hope a forward on 750k plus would be able to do.

As you say Dan is very settled here and he could carve out a successful niche in a top team if we can keep him. I do wonder whether the pressure of going somewhere else on big money and having to bear the brunt mightn't be something that really appeals to him.

I’m guessing you’re asking this question of RMC.

eDPS or PMBangers for a reply.
Done so much with Brisbane over preseason it'd be weird not to nominate, but we'll probably see the same rumours we see every year
