How can becone more attacking by the end of the year?

I reckon a lot of teams know we arent going to hurt them so they run forward themselves and hurt us.

I guess the only way is to just move the ball forward as fast as possible.

It might be ugly but Id rather aim to kick higher score and lose than have 1 goal at half time every week

Gotta keep fighting and still compete. can't just shut up shop and get a loser mentality setting in.

We have basically had the perfect storm derail our season. Half our teams pre-season was pretty much wasted and the other half can't string any games together for continuity. Only 2 players to play all 7 games, would love to know the next few closest to that, I would guess about 12-15.

Also don't know what we did to the umpires but we have had absolutely no love from them whatsoever, not that that is an excuse or reason but when things aren't going your way it makes the fight all that more tough.

How about we try the radical thing and actually throw blokes around to other positions to see if they can play there..
everyone knows where all our blokes are going to line up and they stay there all games( and year) throw Barass or McGovern forward , throw Darling down back, make him chase someone. Play Yeo at halfback or Shuey so we can get some run out of the backline.. even put Rioli and Ryan or cripps back there.. if the lazy gits wont chase make them.. if they dont do it there back to the wafl until they do.

This is a fairly broad statement so don't try and pick it apart, but I would only be keeping the senior players who are capable of setting the training/playing standard next year. If you are at the point of your career where you need to be managed through your week, just to play a game, then it is time to go at the end of 2022 or sooner.
West Coast has historically had a winning culture, but I fear that there are too many senior players being nursed week to week, which does nothing for that culture or showing junior players how to prepare to be a professional athlete.

One thing I want to see this year is Ryan on a HBF; he's fast, is a fantastic kick and a great decision maker with ball in hand.

Who knows, maybe he needs a switch up to regain confidence?
Agree on his kicking and vision, but...
Not sure Liam's idea of footy involves two-way running.
Not really noticeable on TV but he isn't always a great chaser, half the trouble with our forwards and the only reason Zac ever gets a game, pretty easy to run off 'em.

It used to be that Rioli and Ryan provided the 'x factor' and Cripps provided pressure and the occasional 2 or 3 goals.
Ryan now looks disinterested, Rioli is still working his way back and Cripps has forgotten what tackling is, what chasing is about and where the goals are.

I think Rioli has the capacity to regain level, and Ryan just needs self motivation. Cripps I feel is another who has lost the edge and is of an age where it just isn't worth persevering. Accept he's got a year to run but make him an overpaid WAFL player for the next 18 months.

Does anyone here remember when football was beautiful?

Dean Kemp chopping Gary ayres?

Peter matera off the bench?

Dunstall 32 goals going in sumich 31

Sumich kicked 8.8 the week prior

Woosha trying to kill people early in the 3rd

Lol - I watched for 5 mins only to see Hawthorn awarded a dodgy free for deliberate out of bounds, that lead to a shot on goal (they missed).

Maybe the rules have always been a bit crap.

Well, it looks like we won't win another game this season. Lets get really funky with the magnets. Kick it up the middle rather than down the line and lose having a go rather than just being stifled to death.

Crippa looks a bit cooked at the moment, noticeably couldn't keep up with half back rebound Friday night, but might still be building after his long break - jury is out.

Very much needed 2 way runner, big part of transition play for us when going and a big class upgrade on Zac. I know they cop a hammering on here but without Cripps and Gaff (and Sheed to an extent) and their run and link, we cannot transition the ball, especially given our appalling contested making through the middle.

Interesting after his pec tear Cripps is averaging 2 tackles a game, under average but a lot better than Sheed has managed since his, it can be done.

We miss a bit of Woosha's fear and murder in the backline! Oh for a Matera now?
When players looked like men (with dinky tight shorts and 80's hairstyles)
The coaches box where they just sat and watched...with a telephone if lucky?

How about we don't do anything that doesn't have a medium or long term desired outcome.

If we lose games by 50 points instead of 100 because we completely flood, or play Barrass forward, or Cripps back - what is the benefit?

If we lose games by 100 points instead of 50, but all players are held accountable to the new gameplan (assuming that is attacking through the middle, and limiting slow backwards switches) then so be it. At least we will be learning and practicing the new gameplan.

There may be a few magnets that can be moved - but wholesale changes for the sake of it isn't really productive.

2022 is no longer a season we can use for success in the same season - only for future success. So set clear, measurable, small goals (with larger future goals) that we can progress towards. We might win some games, we might not, but if we are improving the squad and players then we are moving forward from our low point (which is about now I think!). The obvious first goal is to find a midfielder who plays a part in our next premiership. There rightfully isn't a heap of confidence in our current developing crop - but we need to play them (in the right position) so we can make calls on their future.

It's going to be a long season obviously with more losses than wins, but don't think it will end up as bad as last season (hope not?). Reckon there will be a time in the season (or a game) where the team turns a corner and we begin to see more structure and connectivity between players and lines - some improvement basically and our losses aren't so humiliating. Maybe even well fought games that end with a closer margin?
Another 15-16 games should sort out the improvers, keepers and leavers?
Then the big overhaul in the offseason...or 'transition'.
And finally a genuine fast gun midfielder or three...

I've got no doubt in my mind that the AFL got embarrassed by the umpire differential stats in WA and put the word down that it had to get fixed.
