OK.
rounds 7,8,9,10,11 we use trade boosts.
15 trades used and lets say 7 upgrades done.
You have got rookies that are playing earlier in the year which usually have better JS.
You have round 12 trades the following week for another 3 trades and an 8-9th upgrade.
This has you complete before round 12 starts.
That has most teams complete easily.
Last year between rounds 7-11 we had 10 trades = 4-5 upgrades.
Hence us completing our teams a week or 2 later.
The best teams will be upgraded before the byes easily.
Comical to think you'll have enough cash cows to trade out, for 15 trades to fund 7 upgrades. Zero chance. We'll all have rookies stuck in $200k and some of the downgrades will be $150k players.

I don't quite understand this positional change thing.
eg McGovern (F) plays down back for so many weeks he becomes dual pos (D/F),
If he stays down there for a few more weeks after that does he become def only?
A player cant lose a dpp.
2 is the max they can have.
he would be d/f for the rest of the year.

Nope, can only gain an extra position for DPP

Players who are already DPP, even if their position changes in real life, nothing will change in SC

Eg.
A player is mid/fwd listed in SC
He plays defence all year
They will not gain def and lose one of their current mid/fwd
Nothing will change

No, impossible. How could they take fwd status off him when half the coaches have him in that position?

Weller is a perfect example of this. Listed as MID/FWD but playing as a Defender. He will remain as MID/FWD for the rest of the year.

My team from round 6 last year.
My starting rookies are still on the cheap side. But an upgrade or 2 was available.
Rookies peeps were discussing that round as downgrade targets were McCreary, Bergman, Jones, Mansell, Prior, Fin mac,
Im sure we had more than that but those are the options we discussed. Whether they were successful is another question entirely.
Round 7 was similar.
Numbers drop off and rookies are harder to come by post round 10.
So holding out actually makes it harder to upgrade not easier.

Spot on, it's all very well saying "I'll do 2 downgrades a week for 5 weeks" but after that you'll have half a dozen dead rookies on your bench.

The other problem with just wishing you can have a complete team by round 12 is the rookies need to max out faster. Doesn't mean they will of course, some rookies will be at $240k in round 10. So you don't make much, so you don't have enough cash to get the guns.

Pie in the sky stuff imo.

Round 12 trade in targets were Weightman(played 3), Reeves(1game), Bianco (1game)
We were taking 1 game players or going late on one that has already had a price change because feck all options are around.
Round 12 is a fun read as it was the week Highmore went nuts.
We 100% had less bubble boys come the first week of the byes.
That did not change through the byes RCD and CCJ the only other real options that popped up.
So 5 over the 3 bye weeks vs round 6 which had 6 options on its own.

I don't need to trade but I think I'll go early Owens to Skinner(if named). Sub 124k with excellent JS and good SANFL form. McInerney may be a problem and I'm missing Rachele so possibly 2 corrections next week.

Any reason you have both Uwland and Long? I’m guessing you brought in Long to get Martin’s score? I’d look at fixing that as you don’t need 2 rookies not earning you money this early.

It also comes down to the right rookies on the bubble at the right time.
I think this is where the trade boost should be used. How many times have you missed the window on a rookie or premo due to needing the extra trade as you were fixing something else.
The time too use the boost will come naturally.

Surprised not a single mention of Luke Foley in this thread yet. I'm not about to rush out and trade him in, but I'll be watching him this week to see if he can back it up. 99 in a losing side. $245k def.
Had my eye on him as potential late rd fall back given the poor def rookies.
Did much better than expected and 30k cheaper than chapman. 👍

What will Weller's position status be in the VFL this year? ;)

moral of the story is if you can avoid using the trade boost. then dont use it. but if youre team is missing so many must have players (rookies and mid pricers) then yeah. trade away.

very east to blow 3 trades this week. but im concentrating on the 2 mid pricers i dont have (lipinski and hewett) and next week ill do rookie correction trades (as theyre more volatile).

save your boosts if you can. dont sideways unless you have to. trades are worth their weight in gold..

100%
On last years trade discussions rounds 7,8,9 seemed like they would have been the perfect time.
Starting rookies had accrued enough cash and we still had options as far as downgrades go.
This year will be different for certain. But not as far as the price our starting rookie had got to, that will be very similar.
I'm planning on using them those 3 weeks for certain.
Maybe even a triple downgrade if I like 3 rooks.
I love the strategy it has added to the game. Best change they have ever made.

I brought in Merrett late and he was stuck on the bench when the match started as I was frantically pushing non responsive buttons. Hence Long. Owens didn't work out so I figure I'm better keeping the DPP rookie. Happy I avoided some premo pitfalls and am missing only one must have rookie.

I can now make informed decisions investing in cash cows on the bubble so I'm not too badly placed.
