Miles, Ellis, Ellis, Higgins, butler, chol, markov and there's probably more were all potentially good players for Richmond but when you have a strong 22 players will a; look for more opportunities or b; look for more money. Hopefully this means we have finally got a strong team that is about to enter the premiership window.

Greetings lads, I like many others am just wondering... Bowes... Do we have a spitball idea of how much coin he's on? I think the Blues would be mad not to be looking at him for a wing position. Always been a big fan of his ball use and his tank.

I know he was a star midfielder as a junior and was meant to transition there this year so I'm tipping it could be a bit of a tricky one in terms of his value internally compared to externally as a dime a dozen half back?

Inside mid, way to slow to play wing.

Neither of them start in the midfield though, I'm assuming Bowes doesn't want to start on the bench. So if Bowes wants to start in the midfield, Rowell, Anderson or Touk needs to start on the bench.

Yes agree, but it’s still midfield rotation.

Pretty disappointing, we get Rowell & Anderson but lose the rest.

From memory, the media speculated $500k’ish per year when he re-signed. He’s an inside mid. But never plays there for us.

600-700k is my understanding of Bowes.

Sounds like he's going to the Cats, though.

Did the club not do their homework? Did the club sell him for peanuts?
Josh Schache told Brisbane he wanted to play for them then left after 2 seasons. People lie, kids lie. What else would we sell him for? He was genuinely inspid for us, do you not remember him being one of the worst players on ground in the NEAFL every week ffs. Leigh Matthews wouldn't of been able to develop the sook away from Melbourne

Yeah, Blame Clayton for this one. I believe most clubs had him as a flight risk and we still picked him. The major concern pre-draft was his lack of work ethic, he has skill and has the talent to be an All-Australian, but his lack of work ethic is clearly holding him back. Even at Hawthorn, he is definitely a lot better than he was at GC but has not developed into the player he was touted at pre-draft.

You couldn't be more wrong, just ask his father!!!:drunk:

Happens all the time, look at Tanner Bruhn. He was the most depressed looking player I've ever seen drafted and said after that he was happy to be drafted by GWS. I wonder if that's why we drafted Scrimshaw when we had Rodney Eade as the head coach, to try and develop the independence he didn't have at the time.

I don’t recall Scrimshaw ever saying, it was his desire to be drafted by the Suns, happy to be corrected if I’m wrong, but if not, what does this have to do with the clubs? Poor choice and poor management and poor trading of said player?

If it’s going to come down to, we can’t develop players because they might play better in Melbourne. We should just close the doors

Nothing personally against you superSuns, I’m just tired of stuff happening at our club that I wouldn’t allowed to happen in business or I would’ve been broke. It’s basic shit

Since then though we have had a great track record in developing players as I said in a previous post. We also almost have 0 people left in the front office from that period. It's a different club and it has clearly showed in the buy in from the players.
I admit the Brodie one stings as that was on Dew and Bowes will sting too but you can't keep every player and clubs need to be aggressive to be successful. Good clubs cut the fat and are always aggressive and busy during trade periods. Look at Geelong. They do it every year.

At what point should we stop hoping for this to show itself, though? He's probably about half way through his career early next year (assuming he goes to 30) but has rarely (I can't think of a time) where he showed this potential. Before this year he virtually played whenever he was available, so he's had ample opportunity. VFL standard, yes. Not AFL. Had a couple of good games in the backline, but we have other options there now. If his goal is to play fulltime mid, he needs to be looking elsewhere.

I like that the club is being ruthless about these decisions, but I do admit it's difficult shopping a home-grown player. But then I also look at it from the fact that we won ten games without him really being involved this year.

Well we here at Carlton are heading into our 8th season now, hoping that David Cuningham can get through more than 6 games a season before injury strikes. Be patient LOL

Anyone who follows American sports would know that the concept of a 'salary dump' is often used by teams when they are gearing up to land a big free agent/trade in a big name player e.g. look at the moves the Cleveland Cavaliers made in 2013/14 to completely clear their cap in anticipation of LeBron James returning through free agency as well as landing Kevin Love through a trade.

"The Suns are poised to launch a pre-emptive strike on their salary cap – freeing up money to retain its emerging young talent and to make a play for an established player in the near future."
Sam Edumund's description of making a play for an established player "in the near future" isn't overly specific but obviously could mean this year's free agency/trade period...

That is absolutely nuts if true
Yep. Like I said, a window it where we were at circa 2019 or whenever it was Bowes re-signed along with 2MP and a handful of others.

Sounds like we're finally trying to fix those deals now, lest we continue to pay for it.

King and Luko signing are ticks no doubt, I hate to think what we are paying them though

If Rowell and or Noah don’t re-sign however I think you would have to view it differently. Personally I think the “culture” change is debatable, certainly not set in concrete

As an aside Have a look at the re-signing and trade requests to the Roos in the last couple of weeks
