SUNS FORWARD STAYS ON

CHRIS Burgess has re-committed to the Gold Coast Suns for two more years after attracting interest from rival clubs following a dominant season in the VFL.

The 26-year-old was starved of opportunity in 2022, managing only two senior appearances after playing 19 games last year.

But after kicking 63 goals in the VFL to win the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal and earn selection at full forward in the team of the year, Burgess landed on the radar of several clubs, including Adelaide and St Kilda.

The South Australian has decided to remain at Metricon Stadium and fight for a spot in Stuart Dew’s best 22 next season.

With Ben King spending 2022 on the sidelines after rupturing his ACL in February, Mabior Chol and Levi Casboult formed a decent partnership in attack this season.

Josh Corbett also fell out of favour at the Suns this year and has attracted interest from other clubs in recent months, before nominating Fremantle this week as his preferred move. – Josh Gabelich

Ben Long is potentially the worst player in the competition who gets a regular game along with Turner and Jack Mahoney.

Just wait till you see him.

The biggest dumbass who gives a free kick away almost every time he lays a tackle and can't ever hit a target when kicking inside 50.

If the 4 year contract is true then you'll have to shoot me.

Last time we slide a pick down to get a future draft pick in, we missed out on Clayton Oliver.
Just take 5 to the draft and take who we want, reach or not.
Doesn't bother me. I hope we take Olly Hollands.

You just come back and help with the melting over reaching for him at 5 ok? ;)

So who we taking at 5?

Hollands is rated approx 10

The next pick is mid 40s hence why best to split the pick

Almost unheard of for the Suns recruiting team looking so far down the draft board

Cam Mackenzie would be my pick, but there is plenty who can fill a role, Busslinger as a KPD, Humphrey could play as a small forward and role into the midfield, Phillipou is a good forward/mid as well, great speed and upside. All 4 would make great additions to the team.

If Bowes, Fiorini, Rankine all are leaving this year and their salaries aren't on our 2023 books, would that not mean we have approx. $2mil to pay someone/s, and/or are we going under 95%

With Thompson, Sexton & Macpherson's $1.2mil? also coming off we should have a fair crack at 2-3 players in 2024 You'd think

Of course after giving some players pay rises.

So does this put Ollie Hollands out of our range? Is pick 5 (6) too high a reach?
Is slightly high.. but if that’s what pick we hold.

I can see why GC would want to get the last of the hollands boys.

But if u could get him at 10 and another player 15-20 range.. as well

Be best to split the pick up

Getting the best 22 on the park and winning is the goal..

I’d say they’d look to re sign rowell and Anderson and front load their contracts to hit the cap floor this year. Then in future years, as you mention, when those two are on a bit less and they other three you said come off contract suns use the space to target more guns.

Pay Rowell and nosey 800k + next year and spread the rest out over a further 4-5 years equals to about 650k
